Floor is a Valkyrie, no doubt about that. She sounds unearthly for the very fact that she isn't quite mortal. But make no mistake. She works so well with the band because there is parity in talent level. In any other band, Floor would be a solo act. But the rest of the band is amazing. Check out the guitar solo in Romanticide, for one example. And yes, the tribute to Pink Floyd is recommended. High Hopes. It still gives me chills.

One of their more epic, theatrical songs, that Floor really shines on, but nowhere near the most. Pink Floyd is also a big influence on the band, and they even do a tribute of their High Hopes song. Hope to see you check out more Nightwish soon. Maybe it’s Storytime.

I like the Jethro Tull comparison. There are absolutely some similarities. I love both bands, so that's one. They also have a number of songs with some Celtic influences. They have an English guy, called Troy, playing all sorts of instruments, including the Uilleann pipes, tin whistles, but also instruments like the bouzouki or the mandola. He used to play for bands and artists like Clannad and Midge Ure for instance. Floor's voice is a little different from Ian Anderson's, but that's the beauty of music, isn't it? I'm also a huge Pink Floyd fan and you're right. These are all bands that weren't affraid to take some time and to experiment. Bands like Yes, King Crimson, Soft Machine, Rush, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and a bunch of others...., they all come together in this band, mixed with some metal. I don't think that's a bad list of bands. 😎

Having seen both Jethro Tull and Nightwish live in concert, I can honestly say that they both put on amazing live shows! The Tull show opened and closed with Thick as a Brick (although the ending was only a few minutes of the song). Edit: They actually opened with Aqualung and played Thick as a Brick as the second song. And it was an excerpt, not the full version.

Nice reaction. As others have mentioned Emppu drinks Corona on stage. He is also a prankster. Don't remember the details but he pranked Floor once so she dumped out his Corona and replaced with apple juice, which hates. They are all one big family on stage. Tuomas's keyboard stand is a miniature of the Sibelius monument in Helsinki. Jean Sibelius is a famous classical composer and one of Tuomas's inspiration. There is a sicth member of the band, Englishman Troy Donockley. He plays Uilleann Pipes, Irish low whistle, Irish Bouzouki, and many other instruments and often lends a celticy feel to some songs. Check out Last of the Wilds from the same Wacken show. Instrumental where he gets to shine and will really feed your Jethro Tull vibe. Since you have discovered a love for Symphonic Metal I recommend you checkout another great band, Epica, from the Netherlands. Heavier and darker then Nightwish but also with a beautiful frontwomen, Simone Simmons, with a gorgeous voice. I think you would enjoy Consign to Oblivion, live from Paris, although my favorite first song is Unleashed from their live Retrospect concert. It was their tenth anniversary show and had a live orchestra and choir on stage with them.

Welcome to the Nightwish family/Nightwish Army. Glad you enjoy listening to this band. From the many reactions to this song I have seen, I think you are the first one to mention Pink Floyd during the interval, which I think is a great reference you make there. I can't answer on the Jethro Tull one, as I am not familiar enough with their music. I also like how you mentioned it was like an encore within the song, as it definitely feels like that in some way. Last month I saw Nightwish in Dublin (first time I saw them since Floor joined), and they performed this masterpiece as the penultimate song (I have the full song from that show on my channel). But then they went on to play the Greatest Show on Earth, which is 24 minutes, and then it somehow the final part of this song doesn't feel as much like an encore anymore, even though it kinda is.

As you get to hear other songs from this band, especially with the latest singer Floor Jansen who had only taken over from previous singer ten months before this concert, there are some featuring the sixth band member, Troy Donockley from England, a multi-instrumentalist who plays various pipes, whistles, bouzouki, acoustic guitar and electric guitar with and without E-bow. Some have the feeling of an Irish jig. Maybe try "I Want My Tears Back" in Buenos Aries 2018/19 or just stick with concert for another 14 songs. LOL

Most will have been said, but a few comments: I think this is your 2nd Nightwish? You ain't heard nothin' yet, to paraphrase BTO. Next, none of the band have to try to keep up with Floor. Every one of them is a complete master of his instrument. I should say instruments, as you haven't seen Marco play The Beast yet, nor have you seen Troy with any of his dozen or so instruments. A lot of people don't really listen to the choir backing the "My fall will be for you" sections either at the beginning of in the last section. The start is very slightly different but in the final sections and after Floor finishes, what may sound like wordless choral chanting is in fact the choir repeating "My fall will be for you My love will be in you You were the one to cut me, so I′ll bleed forever My fall will be for you My love will be in you You were the one to cut me, so I'll bleed forever". (In the start it goes "If you're the one to cut me then I'll bleed forever".) For the record, ignoring my No 1, which you will want to leave for now, the rest of my top list is: 2. Song of Myself from this show - you'll love it. 3. 7 Days to the Wolves from Wembley 2015, which you'll love too 4. Dead Boys Poem which is more balladic but will show another facet of Floor 4 (joint). Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018, if you like drumming and wild vocals, you'll enjoy this. Jukka's replacement and friend, Kaitsu, plays drums on that one.

You'll really get a Jethro Tull vibe when you hear Troy Donockley come in with his bagpipes, whistles, and flutes. Well, OK, maybe not, as he handles them way different than Ian Andersen's flute. But maybe you will. Dunno, we'll have to wait and see! 😄

There's a sort of Celtic sound to some Tull, like the part of this song that directly follows that instrumental interlude...

Greetings and Love from Germany. I'm a new subcriber and what i have seen so far is great, buddy. Very intressting, especialy you, as a roadie. It's such a so important Job and to me its not honored enought. And the fact that you wrote a book about it is quite impressive. And i have a question about your book "Memorois of a Roadies"..is there a German version of the book, translated into German.? Since my knowledge of English is unfortunately quite limited, I would definitely need 3 years for the book, hehe..i'm very intressted and it would be the first book that i read since..don't know..can't remember the last time i read a book. However, keep on rockin UP THE IRONS stay safe & and i wish you a peaceful, healthy happy new year, buddy..PEACE

If you're a Pink Floyd fan you HAVE to check Nightwish tribute of "High Hopes". Every member of this band, past and present, is amazingly talented. You're just scratching the surface of the NW rabbit hole, keep digging. Cheers from Argentina!!!
