NIGHTWISH "NOISE" LYRICS
Crave the machine
Revere the screen
Zoom in for flak and misery
Bleed some pixels
Shoot yourself
Pose for the dead
Have a near-life experience
In a hot air matrix
Now you're a star
Vain avatar
Feeding the beast
In your loud Egoland
You have become
Tool of a tool
Digital ghouls
Telling you to
Shut up and dance!
Color a yarn and the crowds will gather
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise
Please love me
See how I bleed
Please endure
I have such empathy in me
Hum, noise, hum
Beautifully numb
Tapping the quiet air
To have a meaning
By a carrion
Sad hologram
Lost in the maze
The real and human feel
Sunset is free
From this deity
The Earth has a real voice
Go out and get in
I will follow
Color a yarn and the crowds will gather
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise
Feast your eyes on the black mirror
Feed the beast, join the gathering
Tell a tale
Feast of fears is drawing nearer
Beyond the human horizon
Something terrifying sleeps
Noise
From a sunless world
Your mirror is black, only a copy stares back
At a slave of brave new world
Noise
To decoy the human voice
Brain insomniac, paranoiac
Endless noise

#Tuomas - "Noise is a reminder. It's some food for thought. I see it more as an optimistic video than pessimistic. Especially the last 10 seconds of the video, when you see the beautiful forest and the landscape, it should fill you with hope the real world is still out there. This video is not a criticism about technology or cell phones. Me, all the bandmembers, we love technology. We wouldn't ever have done this record without technology. We love our cell phones, the Internet and all that, but it's a criticism for the addiction that these things cause in human beings. 'Addiction' is the word. It's such a shame that we have all these wonderful tools that we can for the good, to spread true information and to be connected to the world. I love the idea of social media, I like Twitter, that everybody in the world suddenly has a voice; we have a voice. We can immediately get out there. It's just a matter of what you put out there. And that's what the video is all about."

This is exactly what I saw in this song. There is an old saying, "Too much of anything is bad for you." People always forget this. Moderation and balance in is important, even more so with so many extremes trying to pull the fabric of society apart at the seems.

Imagine missing so much your goal (or reaching it, but regretting it then) that all your fans are complaining in the comments, so you need to make a statement to explain you were not saying what the videoclip was saying. (Because, like, the accusations of vanity - mostly against women, of disconnection with ancestral art, of fake political engagement, etc, are not just criticisms against "addiction"... And think of it: do you really have to criticize addictions? Would you say to an alcoholic that addiction is bad? They would say: "yes and so? How do I escape?" Because here, it is all about shaming those who are suffering from addictions, not helping them. I always liked Nightwish despite our non matching political views, but here, to deny the meaning of that videoclip, that's a commercial hypocrisy to keep fans. Keep it in mind, we were still listening to you despite our oppositions in ideas, don't fake yours to "seduce" us.)

He (and the other members of Nightwish) are not happy with religious fundamentalism, but none of them despided religion. They are very open-minded and tolerant, although they wrote critical songs about some aspects of religion.

I can’t believe I haven’t heard this until now. But you know, not knowing a Nightwish song is a wonderful thing because then you can get to experience listening to it for the first time, seeing the story for the first time. And I wasn’t disappointed. Honestly I don’t even know what I listened to because I was so immersed into the story and everything they were trying to tell. I mean I heard the song, it was amazing, but the song and lyrics fit everything so well that I got sucked into their world even more. One moment I was jamming out to the beginning of the song and the next it’s the end and I’ve been sitting here for a couple minutes, not noticing that time even went by. I don’t even remember when I stopped jamming and started just sitting here watching. I think that’s when you know that you found an amazing song. When you sit down and for a couple minutes you forget about everything because the song sucks you into a different world. And when that happens multiple times with different songs, you know you found a genius band. Nightwish is genuinely not just a band, their songs aren’t just songs. Everything here is an experience. That’s the best I can sum it up.

"Beyond the human horizon, Something terrifying sleeps." This one seems quite underrated line in the comments. It feels and sounds like technological singularity is sleeping dormant under all that noise we are making. Not yet existing, but kind of waiting for its opportynity to exist as we have are confused by the noise and cannot recognize it. I don`t know if that`s what Tuomas was thinking, but it seems to be (to me) very impactful interpretation.

The message is not to say " eyh phone are bad". If you think this way you missed the message entirely. It's more about exposure, attention and how to use it. Phone are just a medium. It's ok to watch from a phone, it's ok to use the medium / media a song denounce and it's even ok, for Nightwish to promote a song on social media who partly blame them. It's like going to march for climate in your car. It looks ironic, but thats not the point, machines are machines, the uses of machines is human. And the point of the album it's...Human.

There was somewhere this comment by Venomous Tongue. Quotation: BEST COMMENT , that can help you understand the messages hidden in this video (Kai Klomann comment): King Troy is wering a crown made out of Cranes, an oilrig etc. symbolizing the Conercens ruling over us all. He is wearing golden plateau shoes, which symbolizes that his status and hight is only build on his money. Later he stands up from a golden Throne (Toilet) well that speaks from his self . The People with the Phones including Kai and Emppu are barefoot and hooded, like medieval monks, which symbolizes that there social media is like religion for them, but seamingly at random some times it backfires and one of them gets singled out. Floor is wearing a Cage skirt and trapping "baby floor" in it symbolizes the over protective parents who "abuse" their children to accomplish that in life what they self wished for but they couldn't . Marco is a Sales man from the Pharma Industrie selling us supplements that do nothing for us but feed there greed, and in the end get angry and depressed over it. The blond girl (Jessica Edström) symbolizes the youth and beauty craze . Tuomas has the role of an eco activist who demonstrates for nature just to been seen by it to be a better person, but in his private bathroom he bathes very happily in the polluted water with his rubber duck doing nothing of that what he posted in the media . The newborn babe, is strapped in to an Mini TV, getting indoctrinated and covered by the medial noise for his whole life (as we see when the tv on the head of the old man goes black an he dies) and all this happening over and over on countless altars while out side the real world dawns in an nother beautfull and peacefull sunrise.

I started listening to music consciously since I was 12, that’s 48 years ago now. In the 70’s I listened to prog rock and even Deep Purple. I also listened to EW&F en other R&B. My favorite band of all times is Steely Dan, but also love Lee Ritenour, Larry Carlton etc. Since Floor was on Dutch TV I became enchanted by her singing and started to dig into her music. Symphonic Metal? Never heard of that since 2 months ago. What did I miss all these years! Now I have all the live Blu-ray of NW with Floor, downloaded the Albums and even bought a NW T-shirt! How crazy can you get at the age of 60? I’m watching this on my big stereo and TV screen every day, cannot get enough of it. Update: I got a ticket for NW in Amsterdam on 23rd November! It was almost sold out, I got literally the last one on that website! I’m going through my second youth here. 😜

I must say that the single filled my expectations, and I really did not expect the honest and brutal social criticism, very appropriate to the times we are living. I noticed certain influences in the song, such as Game of Thrones and The Matrix (especially in the final part). Once again, Nightwish raises us in the Vehicle of Spirit for another great adventure. I can't wait to listen to the entire album.

In my humble opinion, Nightwish needs 2 albums with a singer to really get the most out of them. Dark Passion Play was great but Imaginarium was breathtaking. Endless Forms Most Beautiful was great but if this song is any kind of meter, this album is going to be something else. Very excited to see what else is coming.

Absolutely agree! It's like the band needs to find a rhythm with each singer. Dark Passion Play was great, but it was definitely still made which Tharja's singing style in mind. Imaginarium, however, really took Annette's voice and musical style into account and it truly shined. I'm sure this will be the same way!

I find both this song and the video incredibly powerful. I describe myself as a person who was a technophile when I was younger but who is now a technoskeptic because even though I'm fascinated by and in awe of what we've been able to achieve just within my lifetime -- I'm in my mid fifties -- I'm also painfully aware that technological advancement has had many unanticipated and undesirable effects on us as well (just one of them being input overload, which of course is one way to interpret the title of this song). The only addition I would make to this song is that I would have loved to hear Floor turn the sustained lyric at the end into a primal scream of frustration -- because more often than I would like, that is what I frankly feel like doing! Just as a sidebar...I can't help but think of H.P. Lovecraft (specifically "The Call Of Cthulu") every time I hear the lyric "beyond the human horizon, something terrifying sleeps." It strikes me as being a tiny bit ironic since just ten years ago, Nightwish was telling people not to evade or stop at the horizon ("Sagan")! Aw, what the hell...irony makes life more fun and more interesting!
