Nightwish is like no other band. They hit so deep and I´m always left in awe of their beauty. I can help but tear up... it´s just amazing how they impact me. I´m really enjoying your reactions. p.s. I related very much with your personal story. It was Nightwish and the voice of Floor Jansen that released me from the darkness I once lived in. It has helped more than any medicine or therapy. I wanted to share a poem with you that I wrote about Floor. It´s called The Flower. All the best to you The Flower Alone on a mountain top Near a decade locked on an icy ledge, ´a whore for the cold world`, A prison without walls. A seemingly endless winter, abruptly came to it´s end A flower voiced, your divine melody releasing me, Tears streaming, The sigh of an awakened soul. Exposed to the colours of you Petals more beautiful than a mind can dream. Positivity, gratefulness and a certain sense of euphoria, Now surrounds me throughout my days. You radiate endless natural beauty - your expression My wilted soul now soothed, embraced and revived. I´m no longer frozen and distant, Your warmth made me melt inside. You leave a garden in your wake Souls blossoming beside you, And an inevitable affinity awaits, To us lucky ones cared for by you.

Nightwish seems to have a song for every emotion. I discovered them very early this year, and they've helped me with depression. I listen to them every day and pick which songs to hear based on what help I need that day. I've also gotten a lot of joy from reaction channels like yours - watching someone discover and fall in love with the band is like a tonic to me. And then a whole army of nice people share in the comments. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I'm happy you are doing so much better.

As already mentioned Tuomas, the keyboardist, wrote this song for the 1999 solar eclipse when asked by their German record label. The lyrics say "222 days of light, will be desired by the night". The solar eclipse was on August 11th 1999. The day number 222 from the start of the year. You thought it could be about "kaamos". I can totally see you felt that, not a bad interpretation of the lyrics. Kaamos is the Finnish for the time in winter when the sun doesn't rise at all for a couple of months in Northern Finland, Lapland. But it's not totally dark all day, and they still have lots of white snow - I don't know about the future - reflecting the scattered light there is. That helps. Here in Southern Finland we have 6-7 hour of day light, when the day is as it's shotest, late December. And more and more often, because of the climate change, we don't have snow when it's the darkest time of the year. The snow often times comes only after New Year's.

Thank you for your emotional opening. You can`t "blabber" enough....thats why we are listening to you. This is one of the rare songs that had been performed by all three vocalists of Nightwish. The solar eclipse in1999....I remember very well that magic moment as the sun went to sleep...... Its an example as for some songs of Tuomas you should know the story before..... But as you felt....Tuomas always gives you space for personal emotions and interpretation of the lyrics..... There is not THE one and only interpretation for his songs... If you should listen to another ballad "Dead Boys Poem" you should know that Tuomas wrote it referring to his own death.... Only if you know that you can really understand the song and the emotions....

This is one of my favorite performances of this wonderful ballad. My God, Floor looks and sounds so beautiful. Carol, my wife, and I wish and pray each day for her complete recovery. The song was a 'order job' from the German record company back in 1999 - suited for the radio and therefore only around 3,5 minutes long at a maximum. It's about the total Solar Eclipse in 1999. But Tuomas hates to be ordered around - therefore the song is over 4 minutes - a short one for a Nightwish song - but damn it is beautiful! By the way - Floor is extremely powerful in transferring emotions into the listener. You will know when it she hits you 👍

Exactly as you say say, Floor literally radiates those emotions, and it is transpiring even through recorded media even after several years... i damn hope there rocordings will survive the time to get "true" classics and continue beeing played even after 100 years... they sure deserve that.

That's the power of Nightwish, they can do it all. From very hard hitting and fast paced heavy metal to very small and beautiful like this song and everything in between. Every song is always different, but always good and ver distinctly Nightwish. It is said that this song was about a solar eclips that was visible in Finland. I have no idea is that's true or not. Very nice reaction. Another song like this would be Dead boys poem (Buenos Aires 2015 is my favorite version)🤘🏽

Thank you Richie for sharing your story. 8 years ago a stroke changed my world. And music was the way to climb out of the black hole I thought I had landed in. Up to the point where in a few weeks I will be performing my own song, about the journey, on stage. I am glad to see you too, are using music to express yourself. For some reason Sleeping Sun is always on te back of my mind. I sort of start "singing" it every time I challenge myself. It always brings me joy and a feeling of belonging in this crazy world. I am already looking forward to the next Nightwish song on your list.

One of the early Songs, it is about the solar eclips "two hundred and twenty two days of light will be desired by the night". Because that's the amount of time that went by before the eclipse (11th of August was the 223rd day of the year). At that time their german record Label asked to write a song about it. One of the terms was " not longer than 3 minutes", Knowing Tuomas, he made it 4+

Hey Ritchie! If you like this version, check out floor singing this at Tampere. This was written by Tuomas to commemorate the solar eclipse in 1999. The verse 222 days of light refers to the days jan 1st to Aug 10th, the day of the eclipse. Floor does this on an elevated stage alone at Tampere.

Wellwell, I've not been so ill than you (yet). But this song has huge healing powers, l admit. As an Autumn person l don't get depressed in the Fall. Spring is more difficult. Too much light, nature's growing too rapidly. Everyone must be happy, and so on. Well, maybe l don't. 😖👍

Good news is that Floor is now cancer free (bar some radiotherapy) and despite the surgery was able to go ahead with the European leg of their world tour. On the opening concert Floor experienced the emotional release you talked about in your reaction. When you live up near the top of the world up in the polar regions it can stay night time for 200 days and then you get about 165 days of sunlight. If I had to guess I would say this song is about the long night time and the sun waiting to rise again. At least maybe I am just guessing. Beautiful song though!
