The Islander is one of my all time favourite songs. It's so beautiful and powerful. I'll miss Marko. He has such a great voice and brought so much good to the band. He's the man that inspired me to get into the Bass in the first place. I wish him all the best in his reinventing. I hope he comes out the other side stronger than ever. Whatever form that takes, whether he's back with Nightwish, Tarot, or not even making music at all. Love you Marko, Keep your head up.

Marco leaves a gaping chasm, which on its own, simply can’t be filled by any one single individual. He brought so much to Nightwish - unlike many bassists who just fill the rhythm section by playing along with the drummer’s kicks (yes Pär, I’m talking about you) Marco complemented every other member of the band, often standing along side them to emphasise the fact, his his playing often including some improv without decimating the original pattern; his voice was not only a huge part of the Nightwish sound, but he was gracious enough to harmonise with Floor’s vocals from her very first appearance with the band, he made her feel right at home without making it overbearing; he’s a really nice guy, and he’s paying the price for that nowI really can’t imagine a future without Marco; not after Jukka went and couldn’t return now, even if he was fully fit and able to do so - it’s a bit like Maiden’s Smith / Gers situation when Ade wanted back in - they kept both - can’t see that working with a drummer. It’s sad that after bringing Troy and Floor into the family officially, that there’s now a real possibility of Nightwish not coming back from this - which I’m sure weighed heavily on Marco for a long time; how *do* you leave a band that you’re such a big part of, without it affecting the future of everyone? No wonder he’s depressed. He’ll be missed, like a hand falling off, it’s noticeable to everyone. I wish him good health and the band a bright, long and happy future.
