it seems to me watching the reviews that the shoe has once again not lived up to the hype. this is becoming a "thing" with Nike lately. Lots of fanfare and undelivers. I do believe that a full length pebax plate would help to give it some snappiness. Once again another great review Alex!! Sorry I've been missing, I have been dealing with Covid running through my family but that's all finally behind me and we are blessed to have not suffered any major set backs. missed running but now working my way slowly back. Thanks again Alex great Job!

Thanks for your comment, Mike and I was very happy to read it as indeed it's been a long time. Good to hear that everyone is now doing fine in the family. Take it easy now returning to running and I'm sure you'll find back your fitness from before Covid very quickly :-)

Yeah my biggest question was the rigidity/plate balance with just the midfoot shank here. My guess is it will end up being a little bit too much of a reduction with just the plastic midfoot shank. I think they are right in reducing the rigidity somewhat for these lower stacks. You don't necessarily need quite as much rigidity/stability with the lower stacks. You also run the risk of the foot feeling too close to the plate, not getting enough compression/rebound feel, feeling slappy, etc. I think the lower drop, less agressive rocker/roll, and a bit more flexibility length towards actively engaging the calves a bit more and giving you a bit more explosive speed/power in the calves. But with all that said, it does seem that other comparable stack super shoes may have struck a bit better of a balance with more of a full plate/rod system but a more flexible one than their most rigid carbon marathon versions. The rigidity balance in the Takumi Sen 8 seems pretty good without the carbon rods and rods that appear a bit thinner so they don't feel to present in the lower stack. I'm also thinking of the Deviate Elite and RC Elite V1 which have carbon plates, but they feel a bit less rigid than others. The Metaspeed Edge is also comparable. It is maybe the most rigid of these, but it does have more flexibility than the Sky and still works pretty well. I'm also thinking about the Dragonfly which has less stack and a full pebax plate. That is for the track though and you don't necessarily need as much forgiveness from the foam as on a harder road, so the plate being closer to the foot may not be quite as much of an issue. It is interesting to think about what that right balance of rigidity is in these lower stack super shoes and my instinct is Nike may have gone a bit too far in the flexible direction. The Takumi Sen 8, Metaspeed Edge, RC V1, or Deviate Elite might be a bit better in these respect. I'm also just wondering if this will be a better 5k shoe than the Vaporfly Next%. In the Adidas case, I think I'd pretty easily take the Takumi Sen 8 over the Adios Pro 2 in a 5k. I'm skeptical as to if that will be the case here. I'm interested in trying them though. The Rebel V2 comparison is good. Those shoes are surprisingly fast for how super felxible they are, but I do worry this shoe went a bit too far in that direction. NB is also putting a full plate in the Pacer it seems... This could ultimately end up being a but more Rebel v2 or Turbo 2 than a real supershoe race day option for shorter races. I guess the price isn't too bad.

Thanks for the absolutely fantastic comment!! Really loved reading it and Rebel v2 + Turbo 2 comparison actually publishing tomorrow. Dragonfly is a different animal for sure. But serves better the purpose for which it was designed compared to this one. All the best!

Enjoyed the first impressions. You mentioned firmly that you feel it needs something for "another gear". What 5/10 K road shoe-s do you feel gives you that extra gear?

Thanks for your comment, Ron. Well…the Vaporfly for instance. Metaspeed SKY too. And I would even say Adios 6 if looking more broadly.
@robin299912 жыл бұрын
I kind of lost interest in this shoe... I have the Takumi Sen 8 and I love it but still use the Next% for my sessions mostly. I just prefer the extra cushion and bounce. Seems like this one doesn' t really "help" but is just kind of a racing flat that is softer than traditional. I guess 150€ is a good price for what it is but the extra price for the Vaporfly seems justified.

Your initial review confirms my thoughts when I saw the position of the shank. Seems that the Streakfly may lack some forefoot control and stability. So I will keep my last brand new Vaporfly Flyknit ;-)

Seems like the Skechers Razor 3 Elite is still the go-to in my collection for a racing flat style shoe. Lighter than the Takumi Sen, less expensive and less foam under foot. In the end, I'll bet the AlphaFly or Next% are just as fast or faster over 5k/10k as any of these new "lower stack" shoes, as long as you don't have any extreme cornering.

Lower energy return and less « plush » midsole ride overall. But they’re not that different either and while the Rebel v2 isn’t marketed as a 5/10k race shoe, a comparison could almost be relevant.

Just finished my first session in the shoe. Total of just under 18k including warm ups and cool downs. Was a 1,2,3,4,5,4,3,2,1 minute pyramid with a minute jog between. Intervals were at about 10k pace (3:30/km)and I ran a range of other paces in the before and after of the workout. On first impressions, I love the shoe. It felt very natural to my foot strike. After the first couple of km, I didn’t even notice it was there it was so light. I didn’t experience the slippage you did in the midfoot, maybe it was down to the socks I wore. It felt easy to run anything in and I think I much preferred it to the Peg Turbo I have. My biggest concern with it would be the durability of the midsole but after running hundreds of KM in the invincible, I’m sure it’ll last for a while. The price point, if it stays the same on full release, seems very fair indeed.
@AlexFilitti2 жыл бұрын
I was waiting for your feedback! Thanks a lot for going in details. How’s the length of the shoe for you? Would you see yourself racing in it and if yes, what distance?
@andywright74252 жыл бұрын
@@AlexFilitti I went half a size down as I’d read similar to you. The length was fine, the loop we run has an uphill and downhill half and I never felt discomfort at the end although, if I was taking it over half marathon distance, I’d go usual size to allow for foot swelling over the longer distance. The fit is definitely “race feel”. Race wise, there’s a mile race at my club coming up soon and I’d definitely wear it for that. I’ll wear it for Parkrun too and see how it goes over 5k. Anything else, I’d probably, at the moment, still choose the Vaporfly because I know how it works for me. Obviously it’s the first run and you get that new shoe placebo effect but I can see this being a favourite of mine. Also, as I know you love the data. A similar session in the Takumi Sen 8 running similar paces on the same loop saw me with a higher cadence. The Sen 8 cadence was 4 steps per minute higher. Don’t know if that has any relevance but there we go. 🤣
