@@Steveinthailand Lauda was the whole reason that the fault in the design was exposed. When Boeing tried to cover up the flaws with the thrust reverser, he pressured them into exposing the issue by saying he'd take another 767 and deploy the reverser in flight to see what would happen. He isn't the reason the plane crashed, he's the reason the fault was caught and repaired.

Sometimes life becomes such a distraction, we often miss news such as this. Truth is, I didn't know Niki passed away. As I write this, I am brought to tears. Niki wasn't just any Formula One driver. He was the quintessential Formula One driver. He set the standard by which all drivers must either meet or exceed. I grew up watching this amazing driver back in the early to late 1970's turn F1 on its back. Always outspoken and very curt, Niki could bring pretty much anyone down to their knees. He had little patience for press. In fact, he had no time for them at all. Yet, he did give interviews. Many of which can be viewed right here on You Tube. I loved watching his interviews almost as much as his racing. He really sparred nothing. Just come right out and tell it like it is. Which is why he was so very popular among his many fans and fellow drivers. One in particular. James Hunt Niki and James had this relationship with one another like no other two F1 drivers. Niki, the consummate professional driver. To bed by 9. James was quite the opposite. Party until race time. Throw up and get into the car and race like there was no tomorrow. This pissed Niki off. Especially Niki. Because he tried very hard to do everything by the book. Rules, regulations, order and balance. James simply didn't give a shit. That all changed when Niki was almost killed. James, I believe, realized how important Niki was to both him and F1. The two were actually quite close and James grew on Niki. When James passed away, it really upset Niki allot. How could such a thing happen to such an asshole? Yes, he literally thought that. He may or may not have said it out loud, but he loved that man so much it really hurt him when James passed. All I know is this. No other F1 driver in its entire history is as great as Niki Lauda. Records be damned. The man was epic. Cold nerves. He took to curves and chicanes like no other driver in history. I know. I stood mere feet from the Casino and watched him and James and all the others battle it out. No one turned a corner like Niki. He just attacked attacked attacked every single inch of every single course. He was a no nonsense driver. If he saw bullshit, he didn't wait around. He would tell someone. A marshal, another driver, a team owner ( yes even Enzo himself ). Niki just told it like it was. If a car was a piece of shit, he said it was a piece of shit and he didn't give a damn who was around. He was that out spoken. He was big on safety. So much so, he was very well known to walk away from a race, a car or both. If there is a race track in heaven and it sucks or the car is a piece of shit, you can bet Niki is telling God to........ Niki......for all the beautiful racing you gave us, I pray you will find peace in heaven and may your soul guide all drivers today. WE LOVE AND MISS YOU🇩🇪🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Easily one of the most inspirational drivers, a true genius when it came to cars. I always loved how he wasn't your typical story of a F1 driver who had been deep in the racing scene since they were a child, he didn't get into it though having a famous race car driver for a relative, he did it with pure dedication and talent. I have fond, yet cloudy memories of Niki Lauda's racing days. Being a Canadian youngster in the '70's, we usually received poor quality (and edited) tape delayed coverage of Formula One. No matter the picture quality, I looked forward to seeing my heroes - Stewart, Andretti, Hunt, Lauda, Scheckter, Watson, and Villeneuve whenever possible. Perhaps my clearest memory was the apparent danger that these men faced at each event. I remember watching news footage of Lauda's fiery crash, and being shaken, and saddened. After rediscovering F1 in the mid-'90's, and faithfully following the sport ever since (the coverage now is so much better of course), I've been able to get 'closer' to those involved. I always enjoyed Lauda's often awkward and frank views of both the sport, and of life. Upon hearing of his health issues months back, I was hopeful that this would be yet another hurdle that he'd clear. Rest in peace Niki Lauda. Thank you for the memories, and thanks for this fine tribute.
