Growing up watching this show as a young teenager I thought it was hilarious, but now as a grown ass adult it's a hard watch. That man kept making it perfectly clear that he didn't want her. Called her all types of names but she always heard what she wanted to just like a lot of us women do. Everytime she started to move on and take the hint the professor out of no where caught feelings. I hated that she left the other man at the alter to be with the professor. Nikki finally found a man that didn't play games with her and wanted to be around her.

I also wanted her to tell the Professor no and marry the other guy. Professor O. Didn't like or want her but he liked the fact that she wanted him. That made him feel good. I find it weird how people think he treated her cruelty for no reason when she literally harassed and stalked that man lol. He wasn’t even mean in the beginning, he even told her she didn’t need to do too much. Like when she moved on the first time, he was suffering from PTSD because she would always find some way to show up. He went to a fake therapist who convinced him that his PTSD was love and he went with that because why else would he constantly think his stalker and harasser would keep harassing him. I think it’s weird how people overlook her treatment of him. Like no she didn’t deserve any better because she was a stalker and a harasser. He deserved better than Stockholm syndrome

THANK YOU! I was about to type this very thing. It's the same issue I have with fans of Family Matters where Laura gets vilified for initally rejecting Steve Urkle where he would disrespect her personal space, barge into her home, hang outside of her window, embarrass her, make unwanted passes etc. Nikki was even worse than Steve. The professor was stalked, harrased, photographed, had his mail and other personal items tampered with, had people around him that he was interested in threatened or actually harmed, assaulted, SA'd- both touched and the actual assault, lied on, had opportunities ruined for him because of her, his home broken into MULTIPLE times and the list goes on. Infact his reaction is better than most people's who would've had the police (which he tried many times) or a family member handle someone like Nikki. Just because it's played for comedy and that the stalker(s) are likeable protagonists doesn't change the fact that what they were doing were messed up crimes that if it were real life, they would've caused emotional and psychological damage to the victim(s) and probably land themselves behind bars. I agree with not having him want her when she would finally move on but in some of the instances where the plot and comedy did not rest on either extreme (either she criminally harassing him or her paying him dust) the professor did genuinely enjoy her company and respected her academic intellect. Nikki didn't even deserve those men because she used them as place holders and she was not 100% available to them which was not fair to them.

The thing that got me is that he didn't want her until the last 15 minutes of the last episode of the SERIES. He treated her like absolute garbage and to do such a roundabout because she was getting married was horrible writing. She should've told him to kick bricks and the series end with him resolving to get her back. Moreover, it wasn't so much that he rejected her, he was CRUEL about it. He made fun of her weight, her personality, he took glee in hurting her feelings and she glossed over it all. Season 1 seemed to be the only time he was courteous and seemed to enjoy her company but it regressed into insults and rudeness as time went on. Nikki Parker deserved so much better.

POSSIBLE THEORY!! I think in this relationship dynamic with Nikki and Oglevee, they both have self-esteem issues, of course. Ogleevee was a bigger child, who loved to eat, and was brutally bullied for it (at least from how they portrayed it in the episode ). Nikki, being a voluptuous woman, that loves food and doesn't hide it, as well as retaliating against anyone who tries her. Ogleevee looked at Nikki, like his younger self and I think lowkey envied her for her outer confidence in being big and confrontational (when needed), which caused him to say cruel and harsh things to her. The ONLY excuse he had to explain his annoyance with her was that she was obsessed with him and his every move. Other than that, I think there is another layer to his disdain, which leads back to his inner/younger child.

Remember they did it when he was drunk but you know what they say about drunk people. Drunk people think with a sober mind. He always wanted her from the jump. But he was one of those dudes that scared to be with a fat woman publicly. You've mentioned that some big girls have low self-esteem. Well that's because society doesn't think that big girls are attractive. Yes there are men that do like big girls but let's keep it real big women are not considered sex symbols. Toxic and typical of a man who comes to his senses and realizes that he had a good woman but ignored her. So when she moved on he looked back and was like oh she's the one. I wanted Nikki in that moment on her wedding day to have said no to him. She needed to consider how he had done her. What he had said. I have experience this in really life first hand. My ex wanted me back now that I have moved on. I never chased him. I just closed that chapter. Now he realizes what he had and wants to come back. But he can't. The reason why a lot of gorgeous plus size women appeared to have lower confidence back in that era is because we constantly tell plus size women that they shouldn’t have confidence. If they show any semblance of self love and self respect, coupled with freedom to feel sexy we act like they’re committing a crime. That’s where the low self-esteem and desperation trope came from but it was really confusing to a lot of folks watching the show because this woman is literally beautiful and intelligent. She’s got multiple, straight a student, and you cannot tell me her hair was not whipped, and she was not dressed down in every episode.

The season finale always left a bitter taste in my mouth, because number 1, it seemed rushed and number 2, he treated her so bad during the entire show yet every time they got together or something happened between Nikki and the Professor he would want her one day then leave her the next. It makes me think even if they’re married he’d do the same

Honestly, you couldn’t really blame Nikki because her mother and Grandmother were the same way when they got their men. Also, when Nikki knock Stanley out and she took care of him, he did let her know that she didn’t have to push so hard. And let’s not forget the episode when that younger guy was trying to get with Nikki, he even told her that it would be inappropriate to have a relationship with one of his students. So I don’t believe it was about self-esteem, this is what she was taught all her life.

I still love this show, but I do enjoy that we can look back on shows we loved as kids and see it from our adult point of view. Nikki was a curvy, black woman obsessively chasing after a man that DID NOT want her!!! The way she behaved (stalking him, attacking his girlfriends, breaking into his apartment many times, and not taking no for an answer) would’ve been considered outrageous if she were a man. One thing I’ve learned is that when certain people are used to toxicity or dysfunction in their life…. Though they may hate it and complain about it, once they don’t have it anymore… they actually no longer know how to function without it. That could’ve been the case for the professor. The second Nicki finally moved on, got engaged and didn’t want him anymore…. Suddenly he convinced himself he wanted her. This stalking woman, who was a constant presence in his life for years, was finally gone from his life and he didn’t know what to do without her. You were spot on!!! Stanley, deep down, loved that Nikki wanted him so bad. Any brief period where she had no interest in him, he was bothered.

The thing with being a larger girl is a lot of times they are treated less than all throughout childhood and adolescence. They always compared to the skinnier, cousins and sisters. Also, they are not picked throughout adolescence for romantic relationships. A lot of boys be completely. Ignore the girls on them because of their size. That’s the reason why a lot of them act like this in relationships. Most of them are not raised to have high self-esteem due to having a higher weight.

Neither of these people were their best selves when they were together & that's why I hate them as a couple! Stanley was mean & cruel until her undivided attention wasn't on him. Then he was jealous & spiteful! He ruined her other relationships & let other people mistreat her way too often! Nikki was far worse imo, stalking him, breaking into his home, making copies of his keys, going through his garbage, ruining his other relationships & crossing EVERY boundary imaginable in the name of "love" when truly she was just unhealthily obsessed with the man for no real reason! It feels like in the end, they both get "rewarded" in a sense for this horrible behavior & it just sends the wrong message!

Actually I don't think that Stanley played in Nikki's face. He straight up told her that he wasn't interested and he deliberately tried to stay away from her for a long time. She came on to him HARD the very first time she met him. She even got to the point where she was stalking him and as a big girl myself I was always insulted by that because the writers of this show thought that it was funny to have a beautiful big woman constantly chasing some dude who didn't even want her. And the crazy part is Monique's stand up was always about being a confident big woman who loved herself but then Nikki's character was all about making a fool out of herself for some man even though she was very strong when it came to other things going on in her life. Stanley was her weakness. I mean The Parkers was a great show and I really liked it but the way she chased that man always made me cringe. I just hated that.

I'm at the point that I don't care what others think. I'm 35 and don't have much dating experience mostly from being sick. I hope more of us can work on loving ourselves one day. Yeah I hated how Stanley settled for her. I think aunt del wasn't supportive in a lot of nikki's endeavors. She spoke her mind and tried to help Nikki. Wow a total betrayal of girl code, aunt drl. This is CRAZY. Nikki was a stalker. She got this man’s Social Security number, bought burial plots worth $10k each using his SSN, made hundreds of copies of the keys to his apartment, memorized his schedule, followed him around, showed up at every single date he had, kept calling him 'my fiancé,' and somehow forced him to go to couples therapy, and so on. The first time she moved on, Stanley didn’t want to intentionally destroy their wedding. He got paranoid that she would come back and haunt him😂 which is normal when she has been doing just that for years. It was so sick that the fake therapist took advantage of that, making him believe he was in love with her. Obviously, it’s not true because one thing about Stanley: he is vain and superficial in the way he picks his partners. He thought he deserved better than Nikki (which is his right. Everyone has their standards) The only person who settled was Stanley. After he realized that all the women he wanted didn’t want him back, he decided to hold on to the one person who loved him unconditionally because he was afraid of ending up alone at his age. Nikki did not settle. From our perspective we can think so because we believe that the other guys were better options, but from her standards she wanted Stanley and she got it. So she did not settle for anything.
@Daydreamerrr574Ай бұрын
I feel like many people feel bad for Nikki because a lot of you think that love is a meritocracy. It’s not the most devoted, the most kind, the smartest, or even the most beautiful and successful who win in love. You’re not entitled to it just because you want it badly or because you do a lot for someone. You get it just because 🤷🏾♀️. We’ve all seen the most evil people being loved, and we’ve seen women who don’t fit typical beauty standards being loved, while women who do fit those standards feel almost angered by it. Why? Because they feel that they’ve worked on their appeal, so they think they’re entitled to that man’s love. But again love is not a meritocracy. Stop thinking people owe you something
@DemandMoexhilaratedАй бұрын
I think we can agree to disagree on this just because the reasons as to why I think that she settled is not the reason why you think she settled. I think she settled because she deserved to be with someone that feels the same way she feels about them.. She should not have to chase a man stalk a man for true love, and companionship. I do believe that she wanted to be with him however he did not feel the same way about her and the things that she was doing all of it, but some of it was to benefit him like giving him her kidney however he never saw it that way she deserve to be with someone who had reciprocated love for her.
@Daydreamerrr574Ай бұрын
@@DemandMoexhilarated Also, her mother did the same to her father. She grew up in families where it was normal for the women to relentlessly chase a man until they get what they want. So she normalized and romanticized it in her head I guess.

I never finished watching the show when it first ran so I watched it a few months back and I was livid. She was a stalker and he treated her like trash even during moments where he shouldn't have. One that stood out to me the most was when he was living with her and he treated her like a slave. One of those "I'm the man and you're beneath me" energy. It was not amusing, it wasn't attractive and I'm glad she finally stood her ground. He wouldn't be treating her that way if she was thinner and more like his usual "type" because he came off as that shallow too. He only truly pursued her to ruin her chance at a real good relationship. The writers had a chance to mature her character and chose the dumbest route instead. She should've apologized for harassing him over the years, pushing her attraction onto him and call him out on trying to screw her over like a child wanting an old toy. If they wanted to leave it open to him having feelings then fine but not her signing up for a lukewarm toxic relationship that one or both will become resentful of in a year. This was such a bad ending because the writers could've had the professor warm up to her the previous season(s) to make it a little more believable for them to end up together in the last season. They implied he wanted her on some level with how he reacted to rivals but it wouldn't have required all that much to make their connection less toxic. Very sloppy.
