I called a dozen car shops, and only one said they would even attempt it (the rest said they had no idea how to fix it). That one wanted about $650 to do the job (4 hours labor, the rest "parts"). I went onto KZbin, and found a 10-minute video showing exactly what to do. I try my best to use Google and KZbin to understand what's going on in my car but there's always a limit to how much you can teach yourself using common sense. I like to think that at least stops me from getting scammed on the big obvious stuff.

One thing that's helped is that when I go to Valvoline or Jiffy Lube or those kind of chains, the technician, if they are helpful, can sometimes point out little problems that they've noticed in your car. Because they don't fix anything in their shop they have less of an incentive to lie as they don't profit from it, so I can then take that information to the mechanic. For those wondering, if you do an oil change yourself, it should cost around $29-$40. It all depends on the type of oil and oil filter your car needs. And that’s it. And always change your blinker fluid.

Don't forget to rotate your wiper blades, swap out the tire's summer air for winter air, and drain the coolant in the winter so the engine doesn't freeze.

Have you done it in real life or just heard it or red it in theory? Tsk

@@jamie3226 yeah… I’ve changed my own oil and multiple other friend’s cars in the past couple years. The blinker fluid is a TOTAL fact tho.

What's really sad was I did not immediately realize the blinker fluid thing was a joke. I was like, oh God, what is that? I haven't had that changed at all in my car that I know of. lol. I hate cars.

So on point. I get nervous to get my oil changed bc of this exact scenario. I, too, have admitted to not knowing a thing about cars. Methinks that's a fatal mistake.
@mrwhips36233 жыл бұрын
Theres a way to solve that problem. Do your own oil changes. Not a big scary thing at all

@@mrwhips3623 true. But I have zero experience with such a thing and I'm terrible with anything mechanical:( I suppose if it bothered me enough I could learn, though.

@@mrwhips3623 I find myself tickled pink just knowing how to add and check the oil. Now that I can do;)
