Nikki's uncontrollable laughter and Steven's sighing and eye rolling was everything. I love how Wikipedia describes the plot of "The Room". The Disaster Artist movie stripped away everything good about the book. Completely changed the motivations of Tommy and Gregg and dumbed it down, the book delves into how complex and fucked up their relationship was and gets way more detailed about how Tommy's mind works. The book is also much, much funnier.

The entire movie's writing is genius-level. Example: (Mike talks to Johnny about "me underwear" incident) 😂 Mike: "hey Johnny, I've got a bit of a tragedy on my hands..." This to a guy who has another, worse tragedy going on in his own house. Between his fianceé and best friend. 😅 (Sorry, "future wife") Even Tommy doesn't know what he's saying: "I don't think Lisa is very faithful to me; in fact, I know she isn't."

So before this movie blew up I met Tommy at Comic Con. He was dressed in neon bright clothes like a half-hearted cosplay and someone asked who he was supposed to be. "I'm a real superhero" is all he said as he was handing out DVD's of the trailer to The Room. And there was even a "review" on the back that said this was the next Tennessee Williams, but the review quote was from Tommy Wiseau.

If you guys feel interested in the backstory I highly recommend watching The Disaster Artist starring James Franco I also recommend the book by the same title written by Greg Sestero, the guy who played Mark. I suggest the audio book it’s narrated by the author and his Tommy impersonation is spot on. If you’re looking for more bad movie recommendations you guys definitely need to react to Trolls 2. That one is way easier to stomach than The Room and has a scene that has become an iconic meme that you might recognize. Great reaction as always.

My friend and I actually met Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero at a live screening of the film several years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life. And yes, Tommy is actually that weird in real life (he actually ran out into the street to pass a football around with the fans who were waiting in line outside the theater lmao). If you ever get a chance to watch this again at a screening, it's definitely worth it; the constant riffing from the audience is hilarious and it's so much fun. Also if you think this is bad, try watching a Neil Breen film. All of his work makes this movie look like an Oscar contender

"He just happened to have a tape recorder in his pocket?" The funniest thing to me about this is... Your normally super valid point about such an unlikely thing being done specifically to fit the plot (weak storytelling) is ironically actually partly reasonable: hear me out. Tommy Wiseau, apparently in real life he uses a tape recorder for all of his phone calls and stuff, and always had one on him. So in this ridiculous mess of a terrible film, in Tommy's writing head, it's totally a normal thing to carry around a tape recorder, lol.

Must watch The Disaster Artist (James Franco movie) to get complete context for this movie. The audiobook is good too. As spectacular a “failure” The Room was, I actually quite admire Tommy Wiseau for following his dream. How many of us have the courage to put ourselves out there like that? Now, Tommy has inadvertently developed quite a cult following for a good bad movie and the enigma surrounding his background.

The cinematography, the dialogue, the lighting and composition, the character development and strong character arcs - such a compelling piece of film. Oh, hai doggy. What's more, the dude actually footed the bill for legit billboards. Look it up, back in the early 2000's there was at least one billboard advertising this movie.

If y’all can, I recommend going to see a live showing/tour of The Room (check The Room’s website). It’s a lot like a live Rocky Horror Picture Show experience, and sometimes, Tommy Wiseau himself shows up to give Q&A’s. Having seen him at one of these events, he is every bit as “”interesting”” in person as he is on screen lmao
