@@frederikboving Fantastic! I'll give it a read. I borrowed a D5600 for some sports photography earlier this year and thought maybe I'd get one second hand since I'm a beginner at photography. I spent a little time learning how to use the D5600 and got some pretty good shots, but I wonder if the D7500 is better for a beginner hobbyist. I like how smaller and lighter (and cheaper) the D5600 is, and the swivel screen so I'm leaning towards it as a first camera but I'm still undecided since I've read the D7500 is better for sports.

I am a retired enthusiast. The D7500 body is now $796.65US / $999.99Cdn. Which means I can justify the upgrade from a D5300. both from a performance and financial POV. I have all the lenses I need. It would be nice to get a mirrorless system like the Fuji XT3 or Lumix G9 but I would have to be on drugs spend that much money which I don't have.

Hi ZappaBlues, also have a look at the D7100 and D7200. I have read so many blogs from people that absolutely love those cameras and the picture they produce. You can get a D7200 used for 600 EUR (Germany Amazon, equal to 670 USD approx). But of course buying used is not always a good experience. The D7500 is a fantastic all round camera IMO. Unfortunately I broke mine as I accidentally dropped it in salt water, which ruined vital electronics. So lesson learned: always wear a neck strap! All the best!

You can buy it from www.NikonUSA.com at their Refurbished Camera Section with a 6 month warranty on it, if you do not want to buy it used? Or, go to www.keh.com buy it used. But, they grade them accordingly! Anywhere from Bargain Grade to LN- Like New.

If I had the D5600, I would not buy the D7500; the only thing I see different is the viewfinder? On the D5600 it's got a Plastic Mirror Box with 94% coverage; on the D7500 it's got a Glass Pentaprism with 100% coverage! Double in Price for the D7500 body only vs. D5600 body only?

The D7500 also has a more modern EXPEED processor, and that does wonders for the picture quality, especially JPGS and low light pictures. The D7500 also shoots more FPS and has a higher res LCD.

Good review. Thanks. A question. Is the LCD screen on these cameras, in Live View, as clear as Say a modern Iphone or other high end smartphone? In other words is the image of what you are photographing crisp and detailed, or is it low-res? Also do the greater # of buttons on the 7500 make adjustments easier and quicker? Since I, frankly, intend to leave my camera in auto mode most of the time, do the added controls matter? Thanks
@frederikboving4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alexander, I think the LCD is OK, but it is far from what you are used to on your smartphone. The camera producers seems to be way behind the smartphones IMHO regarding the LCD's. You can zoom ind and you can see many relevant things on the LCD but a smartphone screen it is not. The # of buttons is up to personal preference. I started shooting in auto mode, but as you get more and more into photography you also want to take more control of your camera, and then the buttons are important to work fast / smooth. If you think you will stay in automated mode, then no, the # of buttons if probably less important.

Hi, the D7500 vs the D5600 is very much subject to what you shoot. The D7500 is a more modern camera, it has faster AF, more modern EXPEED processors and some say it is a budget D500. So if you want to shoot birds in flight or some other things that move fast, I would definitely go for the D7500. The D7500 also shoots 4K video. The D5600 on the other hand has slightly more resolution, so if you shoot landscapes maybe the D5600 is a better option. The D5600 is also a significantly lighter camera, so if weight is important to you, maybe the D5600 may be a better choice. You can find a detailed compare of the two cameras here: cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D7500-vs-Nikon-D5600 - hope this helps!

Hi, to make a long story short I would recommend the D7500. It is probably the most underrated camera in Nikons DSLR lineup if you ask me. Comes with a built in focus motor so you can use vintage Nikon glass with mechanical AF and for that reason alone I would go with the D7500. On the D5600 you have no motor and hence you are left with manual focus. Notice that many D7100/D7200 owners love to hate the D7500 because it was a big disappointment to them when it came out, but IMHO that does not change the fact that the D7500 even today is a great camera. Hope you find a good solution and take care!

Hi Joe, I sold my D5600 a while back, but I still miss the ergonomics of that camera. Maybe a strange thing that ergonomics can be so important, but I have large hands and the deep grip of the D5600 in combination with it being relatively light made it the best camera I have ever had in terms of ergonomics. Even better than my D750 or the Sony/Fuji I have (with battery grips). I hope the D5600 will be as good a camera for you as it was for me. Hi Antiochus, thanks! Not sure what "front/back" focus is, but in general I have not had issues with the 35mm lens. As I recall it, the focus motor is built into the lens itself and controlled by the camera, and I have not had any issues with focus. I did however today find out that on my D750 the focus with a Tokina 100mm macro lens does not work when live view is on - for some reason it only works then I use the viewfinder. So if liveview focus is important to you, maybe good to check if the 35mm works with liveview (I have sold my D5600 so I cannot help with a test unfortunately). All the best.

I share your concerns when it comes to EVF - OVF is better IMO. And I would think there is little glass for the Z50 currently, but it gets better over time. Daniel Norton has a video about the Z50 and my impression is that he is fond of it. Especially for video. The dpreview conclusion mentions af as being a bit fiddly and that the lack of lenses is a concern.
I'm coming from a much smaller mirrorless camera (X100f - not happy with the colours or fixed focal length). Size/weight of the d7500, as used as a travel camera concerns me,m but so does the 1/4000 shutter speed limit on the d5600.
@frederikboving4 жыл бұрын
Valid concerns IMO. If you carry a ND filter it may help you overcome the shutter speed issue. The D7500 is a big camera coming from a small fujifilm (I have the xt20 and the xt3). I recall the D5600 as much smaller than the D7500. You may want to take a look at Sony's rx100m3 or similar cameras in that segment if weight and size is a concern. They do amazing work considering their size and price point.

@frederikboving5 жыл бұрын
If money is no object, I would choose the D7500 any day over the D5600. It is a more modern camera, has a more modern sensor, etc. However, for safari I think the most important thing is to have good and long glass. I have never been on a safari, but I imagine that the animals will be in the distance so you need a lot of zoom. Both the D7500 and the D5600 are APS-C cameras, so remember that the crop factor is to be applied to both the focal length AND the aperture. In other words, you need a really fast lens (low f-stop) unless there is a lot of light when you shoot.

@@CayetanoenJapon1980 I think you will not notice the drop of 3mp going from the D5600 to the D7500 - all the reviews I have read pointed out that the sensor and processor of the D7500 is very good despite the slight drop in resolution. Regarding 300mm - it depends on what you plan to shoot. I have a 300mm for my D5600 and even if it effectively is a 450mm taking the crop factor into account, I find it to be a bit on the short side when shooting birds. Also, remember that the crop factor is also to be applied to the aperture, so a f/4.0 is actually a f/6.0. Not many are aware of this. So I would recommend an even longer lens and one with a very fast aperture. But it might be too much if you are not shooting birds. And fast glass can quickly be big and heavy. So if you plan to shoot a still zebra eating some grass in a field, the 300mm could be more than enough. So, as always: it depends. My best advice is (1) google for reviews of the 300mm and see what the pros think and (2) see if you can test the lens before buying, either lend it or see if you can find a camera store where you can test it.

Hi, I am planning to do a video on all my thoughts after approx 2 weeks of using, so hopefully I can give a more elaborate answer to your question in that video, but here and now: - The viewfinder is a pleasure (go test it in a camera store - don't take my word for it!) - Kit lens focuses fast and silent - an absolute pleasure to work with - Having an LCD is great - I use it a lot - Dedicated button for ISO control is nice - speeds up your work (and the LCD helps as well) - The metal "ears" on the side of the camera still bug me, especially the right one - I have learned to live with the Fn1 button in the grip, but I don't like it at all - I have never had a battery grip and don't miss it for that reason - The camera is bulky, but I like that it has a more solid feel to it. - The shutter is faster and also has a more soft sound; really a pleasure to work with; quickly fills the card when in continuous high mode! Let me know if you have specific questions - happy to answer!

Hi. Very helpful video. I'm currently on a D5500 (so basically the same as the d5600) and thinking of upgrading to D7500. I also wear glasses and you said the viewfinder is much bigger - do you think this is a major difference or not? I struggle to get sharp manual focus at apertures like f.18 on my 50mm lens because I cannot really see the viewfinder well. and purely because of this I'm thinking of going full frame just for the larger viewfinder. The shutter speed and fps is also very attractive for me because I shoot sports a lot.

Hi Adam, even thought the D7500 viewfinder is clearly better than the D5600, I have never had issues with manual focus on the D5600, so I am a bit worried that upgrading to the D7500 or full frame will not solve the root cause of your manual focus challenge. Have you considered one of those cups that help block out the ambient light so you better can see the light from the viewfinder? Not that I cannot recommend the D7500 but I have a feeling it may not solve the root cause of the problem. Let me know how you see this - happy to ping pong to see if a solution can be found!

Hi, I would be cautious to go for the D7500 if weight is important to you. The D7500 is 80 grams more heavy than the D5100 and it also is more "bulky". See the detailed comparison here: cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D7500-vs-Nikon-D5100 Upgrading from D5100 to D5600 is analyzed here: www.apotelyt.com/compare-camera/nikon-d5100-vs-nikon-d5600 In this test you can see the ISO performance of the D5600: www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/nikon-d5600/nikon-d5600-field-test.htm Search for the section "High ISO Performance" - then you can see what you get. I would say that much more than 1600 is probably a stretch, but it all comes down to what you shoot and how much detail you are willing to sacrifice. Hope this helps.

@frederikboving5 жыл бұрын
Hi Abhiroop, let me start out by saying that it is your decision and your money and you are the boss in terms of choosing your next camera. I can give you some input, but the decision is yours! So my first advice is to make a list of decision criterias, i.e. what is important for you when upgrading your camera? What do you expect from the upgrade? That said: here are my thoughts: Upgrade from D3200 to D5600 will in terms of sensor quality not be much of an upgrade. I think the resolution and performance of the sensors in these two cameras is very similar although the D5600 has better dynamic range. The D5600 has a pivoting screen, so if that is important to you, that could be a reason to upgrade. Choosing between the D7200 and the D7500 is difficult. The D7500 is newer and has a newer processor and better low light performance than the D7200 but the D7500 is (where I live) also more expensive. The D7200 is a camera that gets a lot of praise and those who have owned either a D7100 or a D7200 all speak very warmly of it. And I think you can get a very good D7100/D7200 for a good price with a bit of luck. Also check the prices on a used camera - you can save a lot of money that way. I can recommend "cameradecision" that helps bring out the differences between cameras: cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D7200-vs-Nikon-D7500 is an example where the D7200 and the D7500 are compared. But you can compare any combination you like - here is the D3200 and the D5600 compared: cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D5600-vs-Nikon-D3200 Hope this is helpful. Otherwise let me know and I will see if I can dig out more info to help your decision making.

I am just a casual photographer and just take some portraits and landscapes for social media use and to show it to my friends(none of professional business).I need a camera capable of fast focusing ..... I was just okay with D3200 but recently it is having some issues regarding the display along with the focusing , am not going to replace the display for few hundred bucks but to buy a better camera than the one I am having recently... Is it better to buy d7200(or with an extra budget d7500) or buy the d5600 with a few lenses.....
@frederikboving5 жыл бұрын
@@daddycool104 Uh, tough call. If you are after a camera with fact focus, the D500 is normally the king of Nikon APS-C, but it is also expensive. In a 3x00 or 5x00 camera from Nikon, there is no auto focus motor in the camera body, so the speed of focus to some extend is determined by the focus motor in the camera. So you may find that you can improve focus speed simply by using a different lens with better focus motor built-in. Maybe you can borrow a lens to see if this is the case? I would not upgrade to D5600 - it is too similar to the D3x00 in my mind. The D7500 versus D7200 decision is a close call. I think the D7200 probably is better value for money, but the D7500 can shoot more frames per second and has excellent low light performance. If this is not important to you, then I would say the D7200. But again - your money and your decision.

I’ve been using a D5500 for four years now and it has been amazing but it was time for an upgrade, looking forward to the D7500. Will be a dramatic difference. Edit: went for the 6d mark ii with L lens. Used crop for four years, wanted to expand to full frame.

Can someone tell me how I can tell the order the cameras come in? Like the D3500, is it older than the d7500, D5600??
@frederikboving4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the first letter is the series of the camera. Within each series you can assume they higher number means newer, so D5300 is older than D5500, and the D5500 is older than the D5600. Cross series you cannot really assume anything. D3x00 and D5x00 are entry level cameras for example. D7x00 is enthusiast. D7x0 is semi pro and D8x0 is pro. Hope this helps.

@@frederikboving Can you tell me which one I should look at? All I want is take photos and send them to my phone or if theres one that will send photos from the camera. Thank you for explaining my other question I had.

@@luckimom3 Hi, I believe both the D5600 adn the D7500 have SnapBridge connectivity. It is Nikons tool for - amongst other things - sending pictres from you camera to your smartphone. So if that is your only criteria, they should both fit the bill. If you want to see a more detailed compare of the two cameras, I can recommend cameradecision, which is a site that does detailed compares of several cameras. These two are compared here: cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D5600-vs-Nikon-D7500. Notice that SnapBridge is not exactly favoured by photographers, I would say photographers love to hate SnapBridge. Personally I found it OK to use.

@@frederikboving so what's the difference all the d3000, d3400, d3500 series and the d5000, d5300, d5500 and d5600 series? I noticed the d3500 is newer than the d5600, but I'm not sure which one to buy.
@frederikboving4 жыл бұрын
@@luckimom3 It is super confusing! If you go to this site and scroll to the bottom: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nikon_DSLR_cameras there is an overview of Nikon camera models and how they have developed over time. That helped me a lot understanding how the different models relate to each other and have developed over time. I use the site cameradecision to compare cameras. Try this link to compare the D3500 and the D5600: cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D3500-vs-Nikon-D5600 It looks to me like the D5600 wins in terms of connectivity, sensor points and fully articulating screen with better resolution, but that the "base" camera (sensor etc) is much the same. Before you buy a D3x00 or a D5x00 camera, watch this video (of course by me!) before you make your decision: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJekXpiaf6aloJo - you may also want to consider say a used D7200 if you want to venture into vintage glass w/AF. Hope this helps.

Which have better image quality D7500 or d5600?
@frederikboving5 жыл бұрын
Very good question. Both are APS-C sensors. The D5600 has 3mp more than the D7500. But the D7500 has much better dynamic range and 12 more AF points. The D7500 sports a faster shutter speed of 1/8000 vs 1/4000 for the D5600. So in my world, taking into account that I shoot a lot of low light, I would say the D7500.

What's about in bright sunny day?coz i will mostly use dslr in day so which takes better quality images in day time between two?
@frederikboving5 жыл бұрын
@@AliZamin Uh, tough question. The D7500 has a much faster max shutter speed, so you can take pictures in bright sunlight without an ND filter, that would point to the D7500. Also, the D7500 has more modern processor (Expeed 5), and again that would point to the D7500 (not many talk about the processor and I have no insight to the inner workings of the processor, but I have a non-scientific hunch that the more modern processor also gives better picture processing so if you shoot JPG, again, it would point to the D7500). But if great picture quality for a good price is what you are after, then the D7100 and D7200 used are worth a consideration. The D7500 is more of a good camera for all-round shooting.

Nikon should have relabeled the D7500 to D5700 instead! The D7500 is a Disaster and a Downgrade to the D7200!
@frederikboving Жыл бұрын
Right. That would have cleared a lot of confusion, as the D7500 was never intended to replace the D7100 or D7200. I strongly disagree that the D7500 is a disaster - it is a great camera in its own right, and I remember shooting some pictures on a trip to Dublin some years back: visiting the Guinness museum (low light conditions, I dare say!) I came home with images that were better than anything I had ever seen with the D5600. Unfortunately I ruined my D7500 in an accident, but it is one of the few cameras I still miss today.

I don't really see how it is. D7500 has an improved image processor, a supreme sensor, a flip-out screen, much better video, much better low light iso, and faster continous shooting speeds

Non hai capito nulla di reflex, la d7500 è nettamente migliore della d7200 sia in af che nel rumore iso , la d7200 ha solo 24 mpx ma non migliore della d7500 anche sul lato video 4k bye

1.I don't think d7500 supports legacy lenses. You might have made a mistake. 2.Sony RX100 is not a mirrorless system per se. You can call it an advanced point and shoot.
@frederikboving5 жыл бұрын
1. Why is that? The D7500 has the F-mount that Nikon has used for ages. 2. I think is is a question how you define a mirrorless system. It is a very fine camera, especially if you take the price into account, and calling it a point and shoot (even if advanced) is not fair to a pocket camera that is right up there with many much larger and heavier DSLR/mirrorless cameras. I argue elaborately on this in my blog: frederikboving.blogspot.com/2019/03/16-reasons-to-love-rx100m3-and-few.html

D7500 does support legacy lens..., it has its own motor and this is one of its selling point
