One serious improvement unrelated to specifications is the banding noise issue has now been fixed in the D7200. The banding noise found in the D7100 is has been addressed. Detail and dynamic range has also been significantly improved in the new model.
@ThePhotoShow9 жыл бұрын
Ket Lim Thank you for your comment. I have used a D7100 and never found a banding issue.
@siddestroyer9 жыл бұрын
The banding issue can be entirely attributed to the Toshiba image sensor employed in the D7100..it was a similar situation on D5200 but now on both D7200 and D5500 more advanced and capable Sony sensors are used

Awesome video Dave...I just discovered you and immediately subbed..such a common sense and honest comparison was well appreciated..I am upgrading from a d3300, which was a very good camera to start with..you, along with a few others have convinced me to go with the 7100 and forget the extra bells and whistles..my only question is the difference between the Toshiba sensor vs the Sony sensor of the 7200..if there is not much difference, it's a no-brainer for the 7100...thank you and looking forward to more of your vids !
@ThePhotoShow7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, both are so similar in function and performance it would be impossible to tell images apart from each other. I do not believe that there is any difference in image quality between either sensor. Thank you for watching and subbing, have fun, Dave.

quick question Dave, can you use dslr controller apps via memory card wifi to use your phone or tablet as a remote to control the camera functions like iso, aperture and exposure compensation?
@ThePhotoShow9 жыл бұрын
Chalid Arif Thank you for your question. No a WiFi card would only allow you to transfer images from the camera to another device so the internal WiFi on the D7200 has the advantage there.

Great review. Dave, I am a pro-sumer not a pro. I shoot a lot of rivers and Oregon Coast shots. You are spot on on this for my personal use. It will take me a very long time to just get thoroughly immersed into the D7100 features and experiment with its potential. I truly believe the 7000 to the 7100 was value-added. While I think the D7200 has the upgrades of some specific bells and whistles, I really think the added standard range of ISO is way overkill and the other upgrades are ok if one or more really fits your specific needs, probably not in most cases. The add-on WiFi for the D7100 is way down in price now. So I think you nailed it on this comparison. Great job Dave. I bought a D7100 previous to watching this and I came to your conclusions. Thank you very much, I am glad you liked the video. The D7100 is still a great camera, even compared to the D7500 due this summer. If it is of any help I have a whole playlists on the D7100's menus and functions as well. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.

Dave. you mention you would prefer some of these camera makers include lower ISO settings rather than what seems to be extremely high, bordering on ridiculous, ISO. My concern is with shooting video with my D7200 in bright daylight with a shutter speed of 1/50th sec, My favorite lens is the 18-135mm kit lens rhat came with my Nikon D80 with an aperture range of f3.5-f22. In order to manage my depth of field, (especially when I want shallow depth of field) Should I get a set of neutral density filters and if so, what range of densities? Thank You Sir.!
@ThePhotoShow5 жыл бұрын
Hi Wes, yes ND filters would definitely help. You can buy they give you a variety of darkening options that would suit most situations.
@st081219829 жыл бұрын
This is entirely my preference , but the only reason I would like to choose the D7200 over the D7100 would be the larger native ISO range . You are correct in pointing out that not many people shoot over ISO 6400 . Now if , I get a cleaner image at ISO 6400 on a D7200 than a ISO 6400 image on D7100 , I guess , I may consider the D7200 by spending the extra money . If I don't , I would go for the D7100 and spent the money I save on better lenses and filters etc . I also agree with you when you say , that camera manufacturers should go ISOs lower than 100 ; 64 , 50 , 32 . They would be very useful in Long Exposure photography , especially during the day time .

I went from the D7000 to the D7200, the D7000 when to my son, so it was more of a change for me. Being able to control the camera, like when shooting birds with the camera on a tripod and out of sight from them is great for me.

Not chasing the D7200. I went from the D80 to the D90, then the D7100. In my opinion, the D80 still has the best color rendition and saturation of the three. Seriously considering the D810 or the Sony A7R II.

Very good objectivity. Recently bought a D7100 at £475 (brand new) because for a newbie like me the price for the D7200 was too much. For the price of the D7200 I got D7100, 2 prime lenses (35mm 1.8g 2nd-hand & 50mm 1.8d new) and 18-140mm vr new. I have enough to start with, and just for fun I'll get a 32gb wireless memory card. Thanks again keep up the good work for 2016?

Nice comparison. ya the price of the D7100 will come down. As there is not much difference, it is a nice option to buy a D7100 and use some bucks to buy extra lenses

The Photo ShowI agree with you ... who won't need iso more than 6400 specially if he is a landscapes photographer just save some money for a good piece of glass and get d7100 the iso performance not that big difference between the d7100 and d7200 just slightly lower noise and in both cameras there are no noise issues under 6400 iso ... i think the buffer size is the different between them but if you a sport photographer you should upgrade from your camera to much faster camera not a much bigger in buffer size so you can grip the proper moment not only to shoot more shoots with the same speed ... and the only reason to upgrade is the video performance 1080 60 fps and the other features of it ... don't be the one who like to buy the new camera cause it's the newer one so it's better or it has some upgrades ... look at the upgrades and look how you can benefit from it and how much is the benefit comparing to the cost ... you can get the same performance in lowest price if you a landscapes or portrait or street photographer or don't use video that much ...if you want these camera that you can do any thing with it and any type of photography d7200 in these price range would be the best and i think that most people think this way >>> that they tell their selves that " if i want to do any thing ( wild life , sports , video &movies , high the iso level ) this camera will help me to do it " ... i saw one in 500px that used iso 10000 with d7200 to take pic in 500px and i think he just showing the people that " oh i have pumped up the iso to 10000 in a croped sensor camera and look the pic is still usable " ... i don't know how this people thinks
