The D800 is a legend. One of the very best ever made in later years. Still use mine, and I had to get a new one because my original has some problems with the sensor I caused.

I loved it Phil, what a great departure from our usual bird videos. Plus you were having fun. I liked all the tree shots but you are right the last was the best. I am shooting with a D850, you will have too pry that from my hands in the end. Love those F mount lenses. Keep up the great work and let's not wait too long until you do another video with the D800. Great story line , thanks Phil.

That's great you know there is a certain mystic about the older equipment. I think it must be because we have confidence in our old stuff. Thanks again, I loved that video.

Really liked the first panorama the best. I liked seeing the progression of shots on that tree. The D800 still holds up well.

I'm still using my D800 - used it with the fabulous 28-300mm lens to photograph and video the solar eclipse in Texas. It came out great. The lens is what makes it worthwhile. Sony doesn't have a lens as good yet for its A7R (the Tamron 28-300mm is inferior to the Nikon).

Thanks for the video. I started with Canon when I got serious about photography, then I went to Sony which I use for events. In the last 12 months I found fantastic deals for the D800 which I sold for the d810,and now a D850 along with various great lenses. I’m thoroughly impressed with Nikon. The images are very pleasing. Keep up the good work.

I use the the DR5 right angle finder for viewing at awkward angles with the D800, especially for landscapes and macro work The Nikon DK-17M also is a superb upgrade to the original eyepiece.

I had to Google the DR5. I had forgotten that they made such a thing.

Phil, I enjoyed the video. I went to mirrorless (Z8) when it came out and to fund that camera I sold many of my F mount lenses. However, I just got a D800. I still have come old primes and I suppose that's what I'll shoot with most of the time. I also have a D700 and I enjoy shooting with that and then competing against modern camera in photography contests. I have one in a contest now and on Sunday I'll find out how I did against the modern cameras.

i went from the d5300 to d800e around 4 coming 5 years ago. sure is a great camera. biggest even castle yearly fireworks and many times got in local paper, and last year my images were in all adds so was seen in 2nd larges uk city so over million people. only hobby so 800e more than great for my needs, landscape,macro,sometimes wildlife and product photography are my main uses. when costs come down id like to upgrade d850 as i have noticed few dead pixels so starting to show it age. great camera, downside heavy and huge image size , plus is great images. had it a long time now still not used 80% plus functions, got load flash lights and all the gear but i tend to use flash to trigger the others as found that was easy way as settings not straight forward, but the camera not been out manual mode so still take full control. id like to get d850 one day but d800e great camera and i prob never sell it

@@PhilThach yes it is serving me well, downside the weight as i have health issues so don't use it as much as like to but d850 i just know its a great camera and still heavy but one day i still want to get one. not fan mirror less d850 is prob one of the best before mirror was removed. my d800e served we well but i sure one day go for d850 that prob be my last big buy as i continue to get it fixed if i have too so it last

The 14mm shot at 9:00 of the tree was wonderful. Photoshop will easily fix that trash can leaning. :)
@PhilThach10 ай бұрын
Thank you, Tim! That one was my favorite. I know how to get vertical lines straight in Lightroom but it often seems like the solution causes more problems and the image ends up looking weird. Especially when buildings are involved. With this tree as the subject, it might not be as noticeable so I should have at least tried it.

Hi Phil, great shot!! I just sold my D800 only because I was gifted a Z8. I still have my D810 though LOL. D800 and 810 gave me many years of beautiful amazing photos. I wouldn't of sold it but, since I now have a Z8 and I have the D810, sold it to help pay for some Z glass. Anyway, keep shooting my friend!

Hi Phil! It is advisable to buy a used D800 for $285 if have a high count click (212k)? I'm from Cuba and it's my opportunity to get a full frame. Sorry for my English 🙏

@@enriquevelazquez5323 seems reasonable. I would not expect it to last a long time with that shutter count.

As a wildlife obsessed guy, I perfectly understand the gear-rush. Wildlife fast AF, pre-release capture, and other items are game changers. But DSLRs from years past are great for landscapes, structures, urban scene photos, etc. Live preview is valuable for high-stakes events like weddings, but for things like studio photos? just fix the settings and shoot. Of course if you're making huge money or your clients are world class, I get it. But this video proves the "old" DSLRs are fantastic and very well suited to task.

I'm still using mine though I have other and newer cameras. At times I'm using the D800 because it's simply cheaper in case it gets damaged, lost or stolen. Sometimes I use it as a secondary camera to avoid swapping lenses. While overall I like the ergonomics of Nikon cameras I didn't like some of the changes from the D200 to the D800 to the D850. The technical evolution is clear, the D850 is the king of Nikon DSLRs - and I'm intentionally leaving out the D4/D5/D6 line which while digital and F-lenses are bit of a different class. So as the compromise I often grab the D800.

Flipping screens is just a point of failure at some time.
@PhilThach7 ай бұрын
That does seem to be a legitimate concern. However, I own the following cameras that have a flipping or at least tilting screen, Canon M50, R7, R6 Mark II, Nikon D500, D850, Z50, Z6 and none of them have had a screen failure. Not a single one.
@Ton-x4r7 ай бұрын
@@PhilThach It is the rear display connector cable that is most sensitive to wear. Not so much the mechanics. Depends of course on how much you use the screen and how rough or cautious you are.
