I think wife was suspicious of the affair, he reluctantly admitted to it and to owing Patty the money, and they took care of Patty together. Or… Wife found out and together they bilked Patty out of $90 grand knowing they were going to kill her when the well ran dry. Frustrating and sad. Love this series! The Field Notes Journal is fantastic!
@tiffanymichaels24292 жыл бұрын
Agree 💯% I think the wife was in on it and encouraged her husband to milk her for all she was worth. May not have started out as a team but certainly ended up being together on a scam. True evil exists out there and it's scary when a couple get together. In fact wouldn't be surprised if the wife was the mastermind behind scam.

Having just watched this my immediate thoughts are : 1. Money has a tendency to make people behave in irrational ways. 2. If the guy is lying to Patti, he’s lying to his wife and he’s lying to the police. Lying is a rabbit hole, and once someone is in there it’s hard to get out. You need a good memory to be a good liar 🤥. If Boyfriend & Wife [ & Colleague (Co-Worker)] we’re involved and sleeping at night, unless they’re psychopaths, 20 years on it’s likely they have become pretty removed from reality from perpetuating the lies, or they’ve become complacent thinking they’ve got away with it, so now would be a pretty good time to re-open the case and see what their memories are like. 3. Erm...what’s the deal with the police there? As you say, there seems to be a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing directly at Boyfriend, if not the other 2. I’ve heard that without a body or independent witnesses it’s difficult to obtain enough evidence to charge or prosecute, so maybe that’s why the case went cold. Not enough new evidence, resources needing to be deployed elsewhere, yada, yada, yada...very sad for Patti’s family, especially the daughter. What happened to Boyfriend and Wife? Are they still together? If they are, I think there’s a fair chance that Wife was complicit. Did it start as an affair, and evolve into the financial deception by chance, because Patti was smitten with Boyfriend and he saw an opportunity? Or was it planned from the start because he needed money to start his side business? Boyfriend and Patti had a couple of flings before they got together more seriously, so who pursued who? Can we assume that the “false starts” were because he was married?... So many questions! 🧐I could go on. Frustrating? Hell yes! Thanks Nick, this will spin around in my noggin like a brain worm 🐛 for days, if not more! EEK! 🙄😉 Well done for adding the contact details for any information. Here in the UK we had a monthly programme on BBC called Crimewatch and this series of yours reminds me of that, except that the presenters weren’t allowed to have any opinion on the cases presented, of course. 🤨 I just checked and it seems that the programme was axed in 2017, which is a real shame because it was pretty successful in helping to solve tricky crimes because it jogged peoples’ memories. I haven’t watched TV in a long time, so I had no idea it wasn’t on any more. It’s a real shame. 😕 I need to go and find a distraction now. Hmmm...maybe I’ll go and make something...🤔Have a great day 😊

You're a natural storyteller. I love this true crime with bookmaking series you're doing. As far as Patty, is there any evidence that hey went Canada, or did he just drive her home and he and his wife disposed of her. I think the wife and him both bilked her out of the money and killed her. It's like 2 psychopaths were married to each other. So sad for Patty's kid and her sister.
@tiffanymichaels24292 жыл бұрын
I just made a comment about that. Definitely feels like they were together in the scam. If that's the case I hope someone is keeping a close eye on them. Scammers don't stop at one. And getting away with murder as well as $90,000 seems like it would boost their confidence to continue.

I love your craftwork. Please don't lose sight of the fact that these "mysteries" are real people's stories & that as well as the victim, other humans involved can be hurt by what we do & say about such events. You said Police were "doing nothing" & that is something you can't possibly know unless you are part of the team assigned to that particular case. Having had multiple family members work in law enforcement in several countries around the world (although admittedly, none in your rather frightening system), I've noticed that so many are quick to give them huge amounts of ill-informed negative judgement & slow to give positive credit for how they manage to keep our streets safe while working impossible hours & seeing the horrific crime scenes they see every day, the excessive procedures & policies & the standards of proof forced upon them by the legislature (who rarely listen to their input). I'd have thought, as a former teacher, your own experience (of people making unfounded judgments about what you actually do with your time) might stop you from making assumptions about others. I prefer your book-smithing & crafting videos, these are just far too low-brow for a smart woman. Perhaps start to ask yourself before you publish - 'Is it the truth? Does it help anyone? Does it hurt anyone? Am I allowing a very nasty algorithm to push me into scraping the bottom of the content barrel instead of what I do best? You're an amazing book-smith & crafter.

Love the new series - more please! We think Patti was gaslighted and both the boyfriend and wife were involved to get access to Patti’s money. As soon as they’d got it they didn’t need Patti anymore. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had done this scam before. I hope someone opens this case up again and questions them again to find the truth. Her family deserve some closure.

I've read this one before. I honestly think it was both the wife and boyfriend. They were quizzing the sister to see what she knew. Who knows if she prooved to know too much would they have killed her too? It's also really weird that the boyfriend took home a friend and stopped to get food (if that happened) knowing his girlfriend was hiding in the back. The fact the fast food place said they didn't have alot of business doesn't necessarily mean they didn't stop for 45 minutes to kill Patti. Or maybe the friend was just trying to protect his friend by going along with the story. Idk maybe all 3 were in on it. I definitely think the police need to do some questioning again just to see what they say after this time has passed. Does anyone else think that 90k is alot of money for a single mom who is a factory worker?

The "story" reminds me of Agatha Christie's 'Witness for the Prosecution.' Husband and wife were in it together to bilk the rich lady out of money, then murder her. Maybe the BF and wife made this story their own. Open questions: Was there evidence that Patti and the BF went on a trip together? If they did, was Patti remembered by the retreat staff? Were the Honda employees interviewed? Ugly world out there! The notebook was fun ... I've made stuff like that, but don't know what to do with them afterward. Thanks, Nik, you're a treasure! And I'm impressed that you found a way to use your popular channel to serve the public - and in an entertaining way. (For those who enjoy true crime stories.)

That is so mind numbingly frustrating!! It seems SO CLEAR that "boyfriend" had something to do with it that I just can't believe that nothing ever came of it!! Side note: NEVER DATE A MARRIED PERSON!!!! It's one thing to date someone and not know they are married but going into a relationship with someone who is married AND not separated is just never a good idea!!! I don't even understand why anyone would be willing to date someone who they KNOW is a cheater!! It makes zero sense to me! If they are willing to cheat on their significant other WITH you then they are willing to cheat ON YOU!!! And if they are willing to cheat then what does that say about their other morals?!
@janetvisochi-baum75723 жыл бұрын
this one is very interesting - reminds me of a case i watched on TV where Boyfriend called Patti and asked her to meet him at a park - like around 11pm hmmmm 🤔🤔- well anyway when she arrived Boyfriend was there with Wife - and Patti was never seen again - Boyfriend and Wife are serving life sentences - this was a recent case so forensics was indisputable but back then things would be much harder to prove - between DNA & Phone Blings off of Cell Towers they were caught and justice was served - no body - no forensics - no phone trace - poor Patti was probably set up and never to be found - BUT one day someone somewhere will find her bones - and Nik thank you for the journal tutorial while we got to listen to a fascinating story - sad story but makes your mind wander - I would like to wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday season - be well and be safe 🤗🙃🥰

It does seem like co-worker has some knowledge they're keeping to themselves. Its going to annoy me that nobody has been charged now I've learnt about this. Frustrating.
