Again, you’re spot on with the theory. Probably a refrigerated semi. I think there are some high levels of law enforcement that are intentionally complicit and it’s frightening. My heart goes out to all of the victims and families that suffer these senseless losses. Wind River is a good movie, stats at the end are unbelievable! Love the papers and your work, as well as this “series”.

@April The refrig semi is a good theory. Hadn't thought of that. The theory on law enforcement is what I was thinking also. Human/child trafficking. My son talked to me about this in regards to legalizing marijuana; It removes profitability on marijuana, but increases trade in hard drugs and slavery. What a world. Parents watch your babies.

I agree a refrigerated semi or similar thing sounds right and because freezing and thawing causes damage that would have been noticeable in her organs and tissue if they weren’t kept at a consistent temperature so refrigeration sounds more likely and also I think the bad guys could have just watched the local news or something and figured out when to leave the girls or they could have been part of the search team and known that way it’s not in common for the killers to be someone who also “helps” look for the missing person and such it would b the easiest way to learn information about when they could put her out there and also and steer the search bcus they can easily say oh yea I looked there knowing they didn’t or wait till an area was already searched and then put her there it’s definitely sad and fishy too

This is so sad, I’m in Canada & we definitely have a massive problem of indigenous women being murdered and going missing. It was swept under the rug for many years by law enforcement and the govt…what a shock. It has only been recently that the govt has even acknowledged the trauma that residential schools have inflicted. After Denying and fighting lawsuits against the First Nations for decades. Like you said, you care about even 1 woman of any ethnicity, same here….it’s just extra sad when it’s targeted to a specific group and it’s so massive. MMIWG is something very close to my heart. Rest In Peace sisters xo

Nik, life difficulties faced by the indigenous people here in Australia are so similar. It is good to hear their stories broadcast to a wide audience. The common link shared worldwide is initially, dispossession of native lands and homes , denial of native language, treated by invader governments as a lessor people and complete crushing of self esteem and pride. Extremely difficult to come back from all of that.

Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women(MMIW organization) has been an ongoing horrific, sadness that has been going on for generations. I'm glad you brought up Indigenous missing and murdered in one of your craft alongs. Canada and the US sweep the statistics of MMIW under the rug as if they don't matter. Now take those statistics for each state that has a sizable indigenous community from coast to coast. As an indigenous woman, my spirit cries daily for our murdered and missing.

Nine times out of ten it is a Native American person, usually young children or teenage girls. It is sickening. Thanks for sharing these stories, people need to be aware of what is happening here. Thank you for bringing this horrible situation to light. It is the same in Canada. We have a road up north that has been called "The Highway of Tears" because so many First Nations women and girls have disappeared on it and never been found. You would think the police would pick up on the similarity between the "hypothermia" deaths and investigate them more closely. Why not interrogate the adults who attended these parties with young girls? That is a red flag in itself. So very, very sad and my heart goes out to all the families of these missing girls. Hello Nik, thank you sooooo much for this most interesting and informative video. Love the art of crafting and also story telling, especially the true crime ones. I am soooo happy you are continuing in this series, I was so afraid you would stop. PLEASE CARRY ON .............................. it is so interesting. I think the that the snatching of young girls, especially those of ethnic groups is a blot on our society, where has our humanity and compassion gone. It is frightening that the law enforcements, (seemingly) worldwide, doesn't give any credence to what is going on and fail to recognize the situation. It is frightening and so very tragic for the parents and families of the girls involved My heart goes out to them and can only but send love and blessings to them. As usual, you are spot on, I think, with your theories. As for the crafting, I loved the papers and the work you did with them, such a cute book. That's the way the iceman killed his victims. Here's the issue with that though. When Meat freezes, when organic material freezes, the water turns into very sharp shards. Like crystals of millions of knives. When someone is frozen their meat turns to mush. Much like slow freezing meat in your freezer. If the perp is using dry ice however, there are no shards of crystallized ice to tear the meat up. Even if the girls did die of hypothermia there would be insects laying eggs inside the body within 24 hours. Their soft tissue, eyes, tongue, genitals would have been consumed by insects. If the bodies were found intact without any insect or animal perdition they did not die of hypothermia.

You are right, Polly, the statistics are abominable. =( Both girls were found in frigid weather and had been "presumably" been out in the open for 3 weeks. In which case, they could have possibly frozen and thawed more than once.
@deadfan9138
@deadfan9138 2 жыл бұрын
Being in a freezer for an extended period of time would definitely show up on autopsy. The tissue is damaged in a unique way during freezing. There's a history of young Indigenous men and women being run off the reservations and left to die in the elements. I hope that these young women did not suffer too horribly and that if there was indeed foul play involved, the bad guys are caught.
@NiktheBooksmith
@NiktheBooksmith 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dead Fan Yes, I agree. However, here's the kicker...the official COD for both girls was 'accidental hypothermia' and both had supposedly laid out in the elements for 3 weeks, meaning they had just wandered out into a field, laid down and waited to die. Had that actually been the case, their bodies would've frozen and probably thawed several times during a Montana December before being found. Not to mention, the absence of postmortem animal activity that I cannot ignore. This is why I am convinced there was most certainly foul play involved.
@deadfan9138
@deadfan9138 2 жыл бұрын
@@NiktheBooksmith It seems premature (and frankly, suspicious) that the coroner would site COD as accidental hypothermia. It's possible that they were drugged with GHB (and as you said, wouldn't show up on the tox screen) and then suffocated or strangled. They may have been too badly decomposed to show identifying marks. And your point about not showing animal activity is a very good one. Most animals wouldn't have any interest in a rotting body, only a fresh one, suggesting the bodies hadn't been in the elements for weeks. Another thing to consider is that typically when people suffer from hypothermia, there is paradoxical undressing, which is when their body tricks them into thinking they're too hot and take their clothes off. They were both clothed, right? I sure hope they catch the perpetrator(s) and these cases get more attention.

Each year over 500 indigenous women and girls go missing and/or are murdered in the Provence of Ontario Canada. This often goes across the international border into New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine into the Indigenous communities as well. No one knows the complete picture of missing/murdered/trafficked indigenous women and girls because of the lack of communication between the indigenous and local police forces, the fbi and the Canadian counterpart, the lack of concern of same agencies, lack of concern of the indigenous communities for their female members.

Do you think the fact that Native American tribes are considered sovereign nations hinders law enforcement in these cases? I know nothing about how local law enforcement interacts with the local tribes, but I'm wondering if the perpetrators in these crimes take advantage of this situation. I found this quote in an article on The Penn Museum website: " The high rate of violent crimes against Native American women committed by non-Indian men is the result of the criminal jurisdiction laws that fail to protect them."

I saw the doc. too all the way in the Netherlands... And I think that there can be law enforcement involved... Why else would they not investigate? Also a lot of discrimination is involved...

I live on a reservation. My cousin was coerced by a classmate to take a trip to Minneapolis with, and I use the term loosely, friends. She narriwly escaped being a trafficking victim. Therefore, it is my assumption that it is Natives trafficking themselves for the most part. Things are weird here. Although, everywhere I've lived has it's own quirks. If my mother's murder gets solved and we get more details, I'll give the information to you to do a video. We believe the flaming house she died in was arson.

It's a sad fact about indigenous women and it gets even worse if you read the statistics of Alaskan indigenous women it's staggering.

Over the past 30 years in Canada there have been at least 4,000 missing or murdered indigenous women. The number is probably higher than that as many cases do not get reported. I'm sure the coroners in these cases were right about their findings but I expect due to the girls' ethnicity that the investigations may not have been as thorough as they would have been if the girls were white. My heart goes out to their families.

I find these crimes so abhorrent. I can't figure out any reason this demographic would be chosen except that indigenous peoples as a whole do not receive decent treatment from the government/society. They are ignored most of the time and traumatized too often since our culture does ignore them....in a variety of ways. Black individuals would get more coverage, even tho coverage of this demographic is poor in quantity and quality. What does this say about us as a people?

I'm not buying these two hypothermia deaths! I'm curious why the Native American tribes don't have special forces looking into the disappearances of so many females from their communities since it's such a high percentage vanishing. Joe Kenda would get to the bottom of it in a hurry. Too bad he can't be on the cases! I'm very curious about these cases you present. I follow a lot of detective authors---especially all Michael Connelly novels. Did you ever read BRINGING ADAM HOME? Author, and father John Walsh tells the story of the unbelievably botched investigation of finding his 6 year old son's k_____.

I will watch your channel even if you don't talk about murdered girls. I guess this drives some traffic to your channel, but it seems a bit exploitative.

I am so saddened that you have chosen to talk about chopping up women as a part of your channel. I used to love to watch your videos with my mother but I am horrified by this content and am so upset that this is a part of your psyche. My father used to find this sort of thing entertaining and as an adult woman, I’m not close to him at all as a result of it. It breaks my heart because my mother told me how shocked she was by this and it made her think about me and violence coming to me, and I don’t understand people who think that we come to channels like this to hear content of such disgusting ugliness. Your talent is beyond legendary, but what a shame to have lost such glory to such ugliness. And one can’t put this genie back in the bottle. 💔
