Nils was quite the gymnast in his youth, no? Check out the article about him in Crawdaddy magazine from 1976. It likely wasn't only from his stage activity. Bruce S. also was very active onstage, jumping up on the piano, playing 3 plus hours at a stretch.

Playing each other's guitars is not "posturing" (as per the pop up) -- it's called "showmanship." Nils was/is great and a completely distinctive guitarist -- no one else sounds like him.

Summer of '70, Nils was looking for me to be his rythm guitarist. I already had a gigging band in Bethesda/DC. I was out of town going to rock concerts, so Nils chose Tommy instead. Darn. We would have partnered great because I'm a good vocalist and song writer, which weren't his strongest skills.

Been a fan since '77..then saw him in Newcastle City Hall in 1978 and again in Guildford just a few years ago. He's the man for songwriting and probably one of the best to ever pick up a guitar. But why oh why does his success always get measured by his involvement with Bruce Springsteins ESB? He's a stand alone genius that lives under the constant reference back to Springstein, almost as though BS is so brilliant that Nils is a nothing better than a minor disciple.

NO- BUT HE LEARNED PIANO FOR NEIL YOUNG, PLAYED THAT SWEET ACCORDIAN HAND HELD KEYBOARD THAT GAVE HIS SOUND SWEET DISTINCTION- AND THE HARP! THE REAL DEAL HARP and COULD SING- ATHLETIC ON STAGE. Now close your eyes and wonder what Nil would have done if asked to play the lead in memory of george harrison. I am a dreamer.
