London Cyclists Compilation 3 - SMIDGAF

This 3rd compilation of cyclists in London is focused on SMIDGAF.
SMIDGAF stands for "Sorry Mate I Don't Give A F**k" and it refers to situation when a cyclist his about to cross a junction, the driver sees the cyclist yet pulls out anyway.
This week my channel reached 2K subscribers and wanted to upload one more compilation to celebrate the occasion.
Have been collecting these videos over a few months, always too busy to do the editing, but I think this compilation is worth uploading.

As a cyclist taking some of the same routes, I get one incident like this nearly every time I go out, but I am not going very fast, so that gives me time to react. It does show the attitude that for some drivers cyclists don't actually exist, and we are all completely invisible. I always wear plenty of hi-vis gear, and they still don't see me, sometimes.

Before you turn you generally look, I believe in all cases they saw me but because I'm on bicycle instead of a car or bus they decided to proceed even though I was coming at speed.... that is a ' SMIDGAF '.... I do not think I'm too harsh for calling things the way they are.

I was about to say how obnoxious that horn was until I read that you'd added the sound effect afterwards. Nothing escalates a situation faster than those ridiculous, antagonistic horns, and I'm glad my positive impression of you was not ruined. If you ever do get one of those horns, you are legally required to shout out vehicle plates for the most minor of road infractions, preferably in a high pitched/squeaky voice.

DUDE you really need to relax when passing cars making turns (3 point turns) within the street ahead of you! And that van though pulled out and was in the wrong was no need to bang on the side and trying to keep up with it!

I made a video about dumpster diving, and the criticism I got was that it seems like I was happy when places like the co-op throw out food so that me and some friends could collect it.. do you think there is an element of that here, you collect footage of peoples road mistakes and enjoy the benefits of youtube..? possibly, I know its not you making these mistakes and that you could claim to wish that they never happen. but it would seem that you seek these road mistakes out? what do you think?

I'll try to be as brief as possible: 1 very important: Been cycling in London for 20 years, before my camera days I took abuse from drivers, and often bullied by drivers in big cars. It used to upset me very much and think about it for days, now the fact that I can upload the episode to KZbin gives me some closure, I can have a laugh and forget about it. Does that make sense? 2: If you think that standing your ground and not allowing yourself of others to be bullied is seeking mistakes then we disagree. 3: Finally point: Generally questions like yours end up being trolls, but as you seem to have a channel where you publish your stuff I decided to answer seriously. Yes you make sense, I was curious to your reasoning I also cycle in London for the past 6years and have experience some bad events but the majority of my travel is ok. I cycle every day. these days mostly around Kingston but I was living in clapham before. I think you should stand your ground when being bullied and I support that you feel this is your method of doing this. Based upon the apparent speed when dry, you've not slowed down in the wet weather!! How about clips of bad cyclists with the blinding flashing lights on their bikes? Or cyclists not using lights and wearing black and going through red lights at junctions or crossings while people are crossing?

There was a law that was just passed on cyclist that motorist can be finned automaticly for passing and being a certain distant to the cyclist rider. The last was just past national and in the UK

Title is misleading..should be IDGAF, there's definitely no 'Sorry' involved, the driver of the silver car @1:29 I pretty much had this this evening at a junction, couldn't wait for me to get over the road cushion and just bullied his way past, when challenged gave it the you're in the middle of the road bollox. Wouldn't get out of his prick-mobile to discuss his wrong doing, is it any wonder that some cyclists blow their stack and use violence to fight back against the assault that was thrust upon them first (for the thousandth time) . I imagine me throwing my (not inexpensive) commuter bike through the windscreen of some tosser and saying, there you go, isn't that what you intended, you bleep bleep bleep!!

1:35 you are not being reasonable. Nowhere for you to go, common courtesy to let the car creep forward from the side street if there is an opportunity for him to safely emerge towards the other side of the road. Ride safely, your videos are nice, looks crazy out there. Defensive driving and I think it is worth reading a road awareness police handbook of sorts. Bed time reading, highly entertaining and interesting and less than £10 on Amazon.

HereInOxford I think you should indicate and turn only when is safe to do so, all of these drivers saw me and decided to turn anyway, either because they under estimated my speed or because they thought 'is a cyclist' and I don't really give a flip. If by being patient you mean having to brake suddenly because of an unexpected SMIDGAF then that's what I had to do every single time on the clips.

HereInOxford​ that is what I meant. For those instances you come across a car midway through a manoeuvre in the road. By cycling past as the car is performing this action you delay it's completion by the driver and risk the driver not seeing you. In those instances it's best to just wait for the driver to finish what he or she was doing.

Fun little video this - great to use your disappointment to rack up some views. Seems sad that you find it necessary to post videos of drivers doing perfectly legitimate 3-point turns. I do appreciate a few of the overtakes are very close but you then proceed to undertake through similarly small gaps. For example at 1:13 you overtake a rider and undertake a car and van through a needlessly small gap to force yourself into the advanced box. Irony. I commute every day in London by bike and take the rough with the smooth.

+Alexander Croft the reason why I overtook cyclist at 1:13 is because is not safe to ride in the gutter as he does. Better to go in front into the ASL. The way you speak I assume you ride in the gutter. And by the way... the sentence 'I'm a cyclist myself' and 'I commute by bicycle every day' is followed by the most outrageous anti-cyclist comments. Yours is not that much different I'm afraid.

Just a my 2p worth regarding the rain clips, yes there was some absolute muppetry going on from some motorists, however, perhaps slow down a little in those conditions, I don't know what clothes you were wearing or if you had lights but I see an awful lot of cyclists wearing neutral clothes, lycra cycling suits etc and no lights, cyclists need to stand out and this type of clothing doesn't, it blends in with the surroundings. Also the clip were you are filtering in the dark and rain and a car changes lane, not seeing you, perhaps rather than get upset perhaps you should sit in a car, in traffic in those conditions, all you can see out of the windows and mirrors is a sea of light, worse still the light is scattered by the rain on the mirrors and windows. From a motorists point of view, a bright (ish) blinking light stands out a lot better than a solid light. As a motorist who often has to drive in busy city centers I can tell it isn't easy, cyclists often come at you from all directions, we are human, we do not have 360 degree vision and it is impossible to look in 3 mirrors and over both shoulders all at the same time.

Don't think I see anything there that a motorist wouldn't do to a fellow motorist. Cyclists want to ride in the city but then when motorists drive like they do in an urban environment they get all offended. People have places to go and to them you are no better and no worse than anybody else. No, I take that back, you are definitely worse, basically annoying tiny gnats or mosquitoes that they would like to squash like a bug. Motorists driving experience is greatly diminished by having to watch out for bikes so what do you really expect?
