Nine is one of my all time favorite scores and this revival was simply stunning from start to finish. I’ve always loved how the musical took such brilliant source material and transcended it. And this cast!!! Oh Spiderwoman - this show makes my heart sing! Thank you so so so much!!!

Christopher Bowen absolutely! Not long after this Beyoncé made a similar entrance at an event but I cannot remember the name of. And it got a lot of press. And I kept thinking Jane did it better and Jane did it eight times a week! No disrespect to Beyoncé who I like.

The most heart breaking emotional musical ever !!!! The music is haunting, the set design was so beautiful... but most of all: the CAST !!!!! what an amazing cast..... Antonio should have won the TONY that year, if it wasn't for Harvy and HAIRSPRAY.

A ravishing score, gorgeously sung, acted, designed and directed. The stage version is much less misogynistic than the misdirected movie. Guido is a true man-child, not as threatening to women as in need of mothering. Unfortunately, he does do damage along the way, all stunningly acted and sung by an extraordinary cast of ultra talented women. SO true, he is not in good working order for a relationship, but that is the subject of this musical. He learns to finally grow up and stop being a sulky little boy. This is the point of drama and all story telling, the jouney.

Krakowski got the buzz and the Tony Award, but I've always Masterson and Banderas deserved it. Both of them were outstanding, separately and especially together.

Nine is a show that feels like it deserves the best of Broadway’s Leading Ladies but works best in a chamber piece, even Anita Morris showed that in the original production

My memory of this show contains all those adjectives you have heard - ravishing, stunning, extraordinary. I also thought Banderas was incredible and thought he deserved the Tony for Featured Actor more than Harvey Fierstein. At least Banderas was pleasant to listen to. And the women were incredible and added to the overall experience. But more than these, I thought it was one of the most beautiful shows I have seen. That second act spa set - with water gliding down a painterly backdrop of three women - was just sumptuous. Unfortunately, the clips here don't really show it at all....
@BrendanClifford4 жыл бұрын
it was Leading Actor, you may be confused since Harvey is, i think, a supporting character in Hairspray and was in the wrong category. But nonetheless Banderas should have EASILY walked away with that Tony. One of the most extraordinary male performances I've seen on broadway, in a huge and very challenging role. In a stunning production.

Absolutely, Laura B. is Claudia here.

I love this show, and generally loved this revival, but I think it's main weakness and biggest crutch may have been having *most* of the supporting cast do an Italian accent the whole show. It was not necessary and was sometimes a hindrance, especially I'm sad to say in places like "Simple" where Jane did "Seeymple" and it really got in the way of the moment.
@matteociocci9149 Жыл бұрын
someone please tie up Luisa's hands, that's so disturbing and exaggeratedly cliche. we don't underline every-single-word with hand gestures! plus, when Claudia speaks angry Italian she doesn't say a single sensible word. (not to mention La Fleur's fake French accent or Guido's "Italian" pantomime.) ok, other than this language mess it seems like a fantastic production, I wish I could see the whole thing.
@twilightofthezone Жыл бұрын
I don't think Antonio Banderas is "pantomiming Italian" (I don't see a handlebar mustache or any back hair), but I do think that what you're seeing is Antonio Banderas playing Antonio Banderas, which is valid.

For all the fanfare the subject still bores me...heterosexual machismo existential angst...is there really an audience for this among musical theatre audiences?
@gayandreckless4 жыл бұрын
nondescript I agree, but I think the reason it endures is because of the performances and material for the women around Guido. Even the atrocious film version has two very powerful performances from Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz.
