I just finished Chapter 1 and loved every second. Muscle memory kicked in. The visuals and 60 frames a second. So wonderful. Love the different levels. Acolyte difficulty. I am 60 so slower reflexes.

Getting my hopes up, that's for sure! Wasn't expecting NG4 so soon, let alone a shadow drop of a comprehensive remake/remaster for NG2. DoA turns 30 in 2026, and Virtua Fighter (the other 3 button 3D fighter) is drumming up a lot of hype for its development. Plus mainstays like Tekken and Street Fighter seem to be toying with everybody's good faith atm. The 3D fighting game space won't be in monopoly forever it seems. Team Ninja are also raking it in with Venus Vacation and they're probably going to use Prism as a glorified tech demo for flexing character models and animations, just like the Xtreme spinoff games used to be. A fresh new DoA seems more inevitable than ever. It might not even be a full reboot or universe refresh given Ninja Gajden 4 and Ragebound seems to preserve Ryu in the same continuity as we've been seeing in older games.

Ninja Gaiden 2 for the 360 is backwards compatible on the one and series consoles. Runs at 1440p on series S and 4K on series X. That has been my preferred way of playing NG 2 up until now.

​@@bubbaBruthe answer is very simple. Typical "reviewer" attitude. Pretend to be a fan despite never touching the game in over a decade or in a lot of cases, never at all. This game is a modified version of Sigma 2 and definitely a worse version compared to OG NG 2 aside from the realistic look of course. OG NG 2 is also back compatible on the modern xbox's, it looks great and still runs better than the typical UE 5 game. So many issues I have seen in just a few days of its release.

Sigma Black 2 looks like Onimusha 3 CGI and looks incredible once you get to the snow level and beyond. Had the kept the same Sigma 2 look with this Onimusha 3 CGI level graphics it would be the definitive version.

I have never played a single game in this franchise, so I wanted to try it on GP. It feels like a classic 360 game with better lighting, which it is. The clunky controls, the camera getting in the way, the gore, the ridiculous plot, and the cutscenes are all present. I love how it changes settings in every chapter, from New York to Japan, caverns, castles, and even Venice. The combat can be satisfying when you get into that flow. The soundtrack is badass and you get to play with different characters throughout the campaign It's a fun ride for both old and new players but be prepared to get your ass kicked.

Ninja Gaiden Black changed my world. I got rocked hard as a kid, but i stuck with it till i beat the game and all of those trials on Master Ninja difficulty. I loved seeing the unique variants of enemies locked to the higher difficulties, you don't see things like that in games anymore!

Hey, Matt. You’re not going to reply to this but I wanted to say that you’re wrong on this video about Ninja Gaiden. Before I go in, I wanted to say thank you for covering Ninja Gaiden and brining awareness to this historic franchise. I am a die hard NG fan. I was 9 when the game came out in 2004 and till this day I still play NG. I have 100%’d every NG game available. With that said, NO. This is not a blend of NG2(‘08) and NGS2. This game is simply NGS2. Funny enough, it’s missing a lot of content from even NGS2. We have less costumes, the two statue bosses (Buddha and Liberty) are gone and TAG missions is supposed to be online co-op. Aside from the ability to now purchase weapon upgrades (ngs2 gave them to you for free) and dismemberment/gore, this entire game is nothing like the original NG2. People think the gore is the only difference between the two versions, NO. OG2 had ultimate techniques for the Bow, windmill shuriken, Incendiary shuriken (it was NOT brought back in NG2B), more enemies on the screen, Tests of Valor, 30 mission modes to choose from including survival weapon challenges, more costumes, and overall, the difficulty was much harder (but fair). In short, NG2B is a re-skinned NGS2. To have “black” in this game is a disservice. This is not what the fans wanted. Not at all. Graphics and some QOL improvements are great but this is extremely disappointing and frustrating that the 2008 original release of NG2 is still the ultimate version. PS: I’m a big fan of your channel man. This is just a subject that I am passionate about. Also, you CAN play modern NGB and NG2(08) in 4K 60FPS on Xbox One/Series consoles. NGB is $10 and NG2 is $30. You can even use your original discs to play them.

As someone who has played them all this is not just sigma 2.0 the enemy density and enemy ai are both vastly better in this version. Yes some content was cut and missing you're not wrong there, but it absolutely is a blend of the og and sigma, the reality is they made this while also working on ng4. Complaining that every single part of the og was not brought back is frankly childish and almost narssacistic because you can't recognize one major factor the source codes for the og was lost, they had to use sigmas and then build on top of that. Again this is a blend of the og with sigma and it's still a damn good game. I would love to see all the modes and content brought back as well, but reality is we still have a vastly upgraded version and you can still play the og.

I agree, not everything from the original needed to be left in like the ridiculous exploding jellyfish sequences and Eve a boss fight or two. The extra characters needed improvement and didn’t get any. And the Tag Missions are a far cry from the Missions in II. @@crawdad I'm simply addressing the fact people are acting like someone pissed in their Cheerios while ignoring the many improvements in comparison to sigma. If you can't recognize the ai improvement and enemy density is better in comparison to sigma and want to sit and act like there is nothing improved. Sitting there complaining while ignoring the fact they have been working on two titles, yes it's childish and as I said almost narcissistic. Most of these people are acting like it's nothing but a copy and paste from sigma while ignoring the vast amount of improvements and the things brought back from the og. Again this is definitely a mix of the two and as I said it does suck that some content was cut but I can be an adult about it and recognize how much the studio is doing and that they even shadow dropped this. releasing it day one on gamepass was a nice surprise to say the least and again this is a big improvement when compared to sigma besides the cut content. Sorry but a damn good amount of gamers are narcissistic, the amount of childish complaints I see with zero to little recognition of pros is a problem. Also the higher enemy hp allows you to utilize the combos more compared to the og, in the original most people spammed ut and dash attacks rather than actually utilizing the combos.

IMO, the best experience is to be had between the original game and NG2. The original/Black has a more cohesive level design, a banging soundtrack, and a better story. NG2 has more refined combat, dismemberment, big boss fights, at the expense of a throwaway story and some blah levels. At least that these are the reasons I regularly go back to both.

Hi - I noticed when talking about previous versions of NG2, you didn’t mention backwards compatibility. Have you ever played original NG2 on an XSX? It plays at 4K with all the 2008 frame rate issues fixed. You're actually wrong for one the enemy ai is definitely better, multiple stages and fights have a fair amount more enemies than sigma. What he said is factual, it definitely is a mix between the two and yes they did use the source code from sigma 2 because the og was lost. While it is missing content it is overall a vastly better version when comparing it to sigma. So many of you are beyond obvious, that you have not played or gave up quick and assumed the worst. It 100 percent is a blend between the og and sigma.

First ninja gaiden on xbox is def my favorite. Played it on all difficulties. Loved it so much. That 60fps with the fast fluid impactful combat. It was so damn responsive. It began to feel like Ryu was one of my limbs. The game just flowed!

Ninja Gaiden was a game that was very difficult without feeling like the Game AI had to cheat to beat you (No input reading). Also, unlike a Souls game NG was great in spite of the boss fights, not because of them. The regular enemies you encountered could destroy you if you didn't take them seriously.

In master Ninja with NG+ full health bar you can still be killed in Seconds in the intro fight. That's how ferocious enemies are.

Long story but I can think of no better time than now. Back in the day I only had a PlayStation but my boy had a 360 and Ninja Gaiden II it left me in awe every time I saw it. Eventually his original 360 got red ring and he got another. Before he threw it away we worked it out to where if I could fix it I could have it. We ended up opening it up and performing KZbin surgery all day until eventually something worked and I had a 360. I couldn't afford the big ass memory block and Ninja Gaiden so I got NG and played the first couple levels over and over for a VERY long time. Me and my boy also couldn't finish it separately so came together to pass the controller back and forth and eventually prevail. Now damn near 20 years later that's still one of my best friends and I have a career working with networking hardware the spark for which I attribute to fixing that 360 all those years ago. Ninja Gaiden II was pivotal to my life path and having it back looking as glorious as it does feels like a full circle moment (and makes me feel old they're remaking MY childhood now not just old man games 🥴).

I agree with you on Sigma 2. Sure it had some changes that weren't favorable, but it also cleaned up alot of the rough spots of OG 2. Replacing the two armadillos boss fight was just one of many good decisions, as that fight was just a sloppy, camera-jank nightmare. Sigma 2 just feels like a more polished game, and I especially love the bow in that version (happy to have to Sigma 2 bow in this remaster as well).

Nice but this really isn't ninja gaiden 2 black, this game should've been called ninja gaiden 2 sigma black because that is exactly what it is, its based on the sigma version with the lesser enemy count and all the changes that were made to NJ2. the og NJ source code was lost according to many team ninja employees.

This version has 4 costumes, Sigma 2 has 7 and OG2 has over a dozen. This version also has input dropping which the devs are aware of and pros have been testing. Master Ninja mode is identical to Sigma 2 with zero changes. This is not definitive by any means. Is it better than Sigma 2? Absolutely, no doubt about it. Is it better than OG2? No, sadly. It's somewhere between the OG and Sigma 2 as a weird offshoot. It's still a damn good game and I don't regret buying it, but the 'definitive edition' marketing is a straight up lie. It doesn't have Incendiary Shuriken, Windmill Shuriken or the Bow UTs either.

I was surprised, when they revealed it. It's really good. The only bad thing I have to say after like 2,5h: the input delays during fights are kinda annoying. I got used to it but it feels weird sometimes to see Ryu make a hit because it got delayed😂 The gameplay remains enjoyable. The combat system is great

Back in highschool me and my buddies would put on thirty seconds to mars while playing NG2 on 360. And if you play the song “from yesterday” in the level where Ryu puts the eye of the dragon on the dragon sword and end game cutscene, I kid you not they sync together perfectly!

_This Is based on the Sigma Version not the original 2._ I don't know what this guy is talking about by saying it plays like original 2 and he has to retrain his muscle memory for sigma. If you have muscle memory for sigma then you are right at home for this version. It is an edited Sigma not the original. They did some cuts and adjustments to the sigma version so that it feels a little bit more like the original, but it's still not the same. Item and weapon locations are like in Sigma. Enemy encounter rate and aggression is like in sigma. So, the crazy balls to the wall insanity that the fans of the original loved is still not here. Makes me so happy to see this. Oh the nostalgia! Beating Ninja Gaiden on og Xbox one of my greatest gaming achievements. Such an important Xbox series. Forgotten since Dark Souls era but I love this silky smooth combat. Back in the day was the prime example of Xbox visuals. Gotta get myself a series x now

@RetroRebound new subscriber here and I must say I have been playing this game and it’s extremely tough but, also extremely fun, I remember just yesterday I was on my way to fighting Alexei on top of the Statue of Liberty that he took over and I was on the Brooklyn Bridge fighting that big ass troll creature and I was getting my ass kicked constantly as I was just getting thrown around like the hulk does to Loki in the avengers from 2012 and I was definitely Loki in that analogy not the other way around but, once I figured out his patterns and when to dodge and when to get some strikes in with my dragon sword when I had an opening, and after what felt like 2 hours even though I’m sure it wasn’t, I finally beat the asshole and there definitely was a feeling of accomplishment I’ve never had in a game before and it definitely gets easier as I figure out the basic combat flow of the game which, by no means am I a master I’m still new to the franchise starting with this game and wow, it’s great.

Before NG 2 Black, I had never touched this series. Of course I have heard of Ninja Gaiden but never really went after, and man... was I wrong. I bought yesterday and already finished the game, and you really can see a bunch of souls elements in here which was great but you don't need to spend several minutes, sometimes hours to learn the boss skill set. You get the basics and shred everything. Had a great time playing it!

Never got to play Gaiden back in the day. Definitely a similar rep as DS in terms of it being brutally difficult so took me a while to even be like "yeah I could play this". Haven't played NG before but played/LOVED Nioh 1+2 which is also Team Ninja. Been wanting to get the Master Collection but now that this is out I may as well get this instead! Maybe get the Master Collection later just to get the experience, but super lucky to be getting into the series now as it goes through this revival of sorts!

Thinking back now… this is a remaster. Meaning they ported the original code to UE5… Didn’t they say the reason they didn’t pack Ninga Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden 2 in the Master Collection was because they lost the original code? Survival and mission mode. That content the original ng2 had as DLC. That content. Also, the bosses removed in ng2b are bosses from Sigma 2 that die hard fans didn't like because they ruined the pace. I don't agree with the purists that the game is bad because it's not. The game is a blend of the 2. Ayane has the incendiaries, so they're in the game. So it's missing high enemy counts (that literally slowed the gameplay to a slideshow in the original) and projectile uts. Most tests of valor sucked and weren't enjoyable. For what this game was trying to be, it's done pretty well for itself.

That's because VH/Mentor in this is close to Warrior on NGII and Master Ninja in Sigma 2 is close to Mentor on NGII mostly because of much HP enemies get and that's just for the fights themselves the # of enemies are so drastically reduced it's painful to see. Of course if you have no prior experience you'll never know how drastic it is.

Released 2008.. That's 17 years ago and you can tell devs maximized everything. No short cuts and no throwing gpu's to make it look OK using post processing. THAT'S why you don't see graphics truly rise what you do see is dev costs rise.

I just finished the game on Acolyte, started up a Warrior playthrough, gonna do it consecutively and train myself to try and beat Master Ninja. I can say, despite this game being pretty good, it's not the definitive NG2. OG NG2 is still imo the best. The ridiculous enemy spawn numbers, the Tests of Valor, the Windmill and Incendiary Shurikens, the worm boss fight, heck even some Sigma 2 content like the Buddha statue and Statue of Liberty bosses were all cut. And then some bosses like the Water Dragon and Twin Gold Dragons fights are the Sigma 2 versions. I hope that Team Ninja maybe could give us updates like to toggle OG NG2 enemy spawns, but Idk it does seem like a finished product in terms of the whole game. I think the only realistic thing to expect from any updates or DLC are like, the ability to play any character in any chapter, and/or more costumes, cuz they cut like all the OG NG2 and Sigma 2 costumes which was wild. They have 4 costumes. 4, friggin 4. 1 default, 1 you get for beating the game once, 1 you get for beating Master Ninja, and 1 for beating 10 missions. Like, damn. On the bright side at least we got something from the NG series, I am hyped af for NG4.
