Absolutely blown away. You are so knowledgeable about the human body. Trying to educate myself because I have high renin and high aldosterone levels and low potassium. The doctors are stumped on this one. I think it might have something to do with not being able to reabsorb water. Maybe the proximal convoluted tubules. Still having tests done.

If you doing a ketogenic diet: glucose goes down and ketones go up. Would the reduction of glucose cause an increase in cortisol? And once entirely keto adapted would this then decrease because ketones would be a good energy source? Since low carb diet is shown repeatedly to reduce metabolic syndrome i.e. BP, type 2 diabetes and other elements, I was wondering if this would be an explanation? Great teaching!

So what effect does super-high brain activity have on glucose levels and thereby stress? My guess is that if your mind is racing - whether from trauma or from being in a fight/argument, or stage fright, or whatever it is - that uses up a lot of blood glucose. After all, the brain uses up about 20-25% of the body's glucose of the body's resting metabolism, so a big jump in the brain's activity level can really increase glucose consumption Especially because when we use a lot of glucose in our muscles, the body has other ways (without cortisol) to produce more energy, via "burning fat". But when the brain uses a lot of glucose, it seems that the body's only way to increase bood glucose levels is to increase cortisol It could be that low glucose levels *is* (or at least can be) the effect of subjectively stressful situations, that make the person's mind run wild and massively increase its activity level. Also: If cortisol is produced in the brain, and the blood flow to the brain vasoconstricts disproportionately much during cortisol (as part of the fight-or-flight response), couldn't that be the reason, why sometimes very stressful situation self-perpetuate, where the person is stressed (cortisol) and then because they're stressed they keep being stressed (cortisol). Of course, generally low glucose levels, as well as permanently more vasoconstricted blood vessels (it seems that permanent super-high "stress" leads to that) will make some people a lot more prone to stress, *especially* with a self-perpetuating mechanism such as that

I am not sure if ACTH specifically stimulates adrenal fasculata layer producing cortisol or includes whole adrenal cortex’s hormone since the Cushing disease may arise from pituitary gland tumor or adrenal gland tumor. As a result, we only be taught measure cortisol level

Awesome video but didn't get the point why the body would want to create glycogen from glucose while also using glycogen to create glucose. My first thought immediately is why not do nothing and keep the glucose in the first place.

I wonder the process of increasing glucouse in the liver. There is also the pathway decreasing glucose by breaking glucose into glycogen( glycolysis) . So the cortisol can also reduce blood sugar ??? I still consider about that!
@cheydinal5401

This explains why some people have a habit of eating sweets (or say ice cream) when they're stressed (high cortisol): Because they on some level know that it will make them less stressed (lower cortisol production) - at least until the insulin has kicked in for a while and drained the blood flow from the glucos, bringing it into that fat and muscle cells, and thus the cycle sort of continues, possibly at least

Can sb explain what is the correlation between lower inflamation and increased gluconeogenesis? Like why did it evolve to do both things which seem separate? So that cortisol to be the only one that produces damage? (Cuz it lyses a lot) this seems not so productive for me as inflamation doesn't occur unless there is a pathogen, i mean the damage dealt by free radicals etc outside an infection is non existent Or this is what i thought. Can sb help me pleaaase

Cant just speak about cortisol without glukagon and insuline . Actually this is really complicated in detail. Ask the professor how the interactions look in detail. Its one million enzymes interacting and you cant see those under a microscope.. thats why biochemistry in one way suchs.. they never have to derive anyting as in maths.

this is why vitamin B5 and B6 are so important. B5 increases fatty acids burning in the krebs cycle with more AcetylCoA. That results in less glucose burning and the blood glucose level does not drop that much. so cortisol is not increasing ==> less catabolism. also less pregnenalone steal ==> more DHEA/testosterone. similar for B6, it is used to make more serotonin and melatonin/gaba. ==> better sleep ==> less cortisol. less cortisol, less protein catabolism ==> lower blood sugar ==> more glucagon, more hormone sensitive lipase ==> more body fat liberation ==> more glycerol to make blood glucose, no protein catabolism needed == less pregnenalone steal, more DHEA/testosterone. b vitamins are great! mega dosing b5 and high dose of b6 is fantastic. i use 5-6x500mg B5 and 4x17mg B6

Also: So based on some stuff I've read and such, plus personal experience, I've noticed that I have a lot more energy, when I stop take 10-15 grams of proteins (protein powder/shake) every 4 hours, in combination to eating some 50 grams of carbs every 4 hours as well. That seems to be because certain amino acids are needed, probably in relatively large quantities I assume, to build enzymes that help digest carbs in the gut. That, as well as stuff like Omega 3, which according to some studies literally lowers blood cortisol levels, really helps me not be stressed. The cortisol-reducing effect of Omega 3 probably comes from the unsaturated fatty acids, that is Omega 3, also needing CBG/Transcortin and Albumin; so it leads to cortisol not being able to even get *into* the blood, because it's hydrophobic

I am currently being tested for Cushing's Syndrome which has been a total mind bender. Due to a radical hysterectomy procedure & a long period of extreme stressful conditions, my body does not produce the hormones necessary to offset the effects of hypocortisol. The effects are miserable...to say the least...My question is: Are the fatty acid deposits responsible for the "buffalo hump" seen in many Cushing's patients. If not what causes it?

How much time to cortisol make catabolism protein in the muscles? Because in a fasting time the HGH levels enhances and he acts like a sparing protein, blocking the muscle breakdown. A study of 1 weak of fasting in humans have increased GH levels 1250%. So, how much time to the catabolism protein occurs because of the cortisol? Thanks!
