In this lecture Professor Zach Murphy will be discussing cholesterol metabolism. We describe the various enzymatic processes involved in converting Acetyl-CoA into cholesterol. We also discuss the regulation of some of the more important enzymes in this pathway as well as their relationship to pharmaceuticals (statins). Thanks for the video! If you give statins, I understand that you will produce less cholesterol in the cell. Therefore, less cholesterol will be packaged into vesicles called LDL (aka "bad cholesterol"). But if you have less cholesterol for LDL, don't you also have less cholesterol for HDL (aka "good cholesterol")?

I eat a low oil (and zero coconut oil since it’s a satfat) whole food vegan diet because I have familial hypercholesterolemia & hypothyroidism (hashimoto’s so it’s primary) and my LDL is still over 190. When I take Crestor my LDL will get down to 120. It should be under 100. I exercise everyday, several times a day and get plenty of rest/water (lack of both can raise cholesterol). Sometimes just eating an excellent diet isn’t good enough
