I'm super excited to see this range come back! Fun fact: the main reason these are so easy to blend is due to the painting style used on Warmachine Warjacks. They have tons of smooth, rounded surfaces, which look great with wet blending. All of the old Privateer Press painting tutorials feature tons of wet blending and two brush blending.

My brother (who hasn't been in the hobby for over 2 decades) recently found a stash of old Citadel paints and gave them to me. Some of those paints I didn't even know GW made (colored metals for instance). Out of all the bottles only Tin Bitz had seperated a bit (which I would argue is not the fault of the bottle), the rest were pristine. Bottles with lids aren't the problem, bad lids are.
@nicholassinnett29584 ай бұрын
True. I love my dropper bottles, but if GW dropped their current garbage pots and went back to the OG Citadel/P3/Foundry pot design, I wouldn't have a preference. The only issue with the P3-style pots is that the plastic the lids are made from sometimes turns brittle as it ages, which makes it easy to snap the hinge if it happens. That could just be an issue with pots that're exposed sunlight though, I'm not sure.
@charlescarpenter90984 ай бұрын
@nicholassinnett2958 is totally right about the brittle lids. I don't mind pots, but the lids of every color I used regularly all broke. No thumb tab to pop the lid, combined with dried paint around the seal makes it so tricky and annoying to open without the paint flying everywhere like a spring snake in a pringles tube.

Damn, when I was starting this hobby, people weren't recommending paint ranges but specific paints. Pick yellow from that range, pick purple from the other etc. Now we have whole ranges that are all so solid, the options we have now! Damn, the hobby has evolved tremendously.
@blakearius4 ай бұрын
Honestly I find it overwealming. I bought a crap tonne of AK but I find the new Vellejo ranges pretty similar to use but without caps that split/clog. And I don't even know wtf the difference is between game color and model color apart from the colours available. What the hell do I buy now? Vince Recommended Vellejo Ice yellow in an old vid and his recent one he recommends AK Ice yellow, right after I just ordered the new forumula vellejo one. Did I make the best choice!? I have no idea. Sometimes I think the smartest thing would be to sell 90% of my paints, buy a single set of Golden Soflat acrylics and mix all my colours, and it'll prob save me days staring at a shopping cart filled with paints I may or may not need that aren't properly represented in pictures.

11:00 you can do the same with a dropper bottle. Instead of squeezing it onto your palette - hold it horizontally and hold your brush to the nozzle. Squeeze lightly - and you can have as little paint as you like. 🎉
@obyiscushobbyandgaming4 ай бұрын
You need to be very careful doing that or you may spread the point of your brush, or if the paint comes too quickly shoot paint into the ferrel
@WardudeProxies4 ай бұрын
You can also pull out the nozzle. And get that little bit of paint from the nozzle.
@Aisaaax4 ай бұрын
@@obyiscushobbyandgaming it will only happen if your nozzle has dry paint on it In general, if it's blocked you shouldn't squeeze but use a needle to fix it.
@coreymorse13474 ай бұрын
Or just squeeze the paint directly onto the palette instead of holding the bottle in the air and squeezing until there is enough for a drop to fall or it shoots out in a stream. Holy crup do youtubers like to waste paint filling their palette. Getting even less than enough for the tip of a brush shouldn't be a problem. It would be a bit pointless, but not a problem...

Def doable but still more effort. I mean I get both sides. People also seem to associate paint pots with the new citadel version which is literally the worst attempt at containing paint known to man. The old GW paints were solid and worked fine in old pots similar to these

You’re absolutely right about those old paint pots. Not long ago I pulled out my old paints from the early 90’s and was surprised to find that they were still good. Something about those pots made such a great seal.

Those bottle were very much like the very very old Citadel types that would seal amazingly well provided you kept the rims clear of buildup...(IIRC, some mentioned they used the same manufacturer that GW/Citadel used to use with their original lines). I really wouldn't mind if these paints were offered in dropper bottles though, just out of ease of deployment vs pots. Won't stop me from getting the new stuff(Ioved the old Citadel and the P3 paints, although the old P3 metallic were a bit hit and miss).

I really don't need another paint range, but when army painting the ability to wet blend on the model means cloaks, spacemarine armour, gostly weird bits, metal and horses all paint waaaaay quicker. So whilst I likely won't be buying them all, for most big projects I'll pick out two or three purely to wet blend quickly and simply without falling back on oil paints. That way it will absolutely speed up my army painting
@flyingtam4 ай бұрын
P3 was (is?) ridiculously good at wet blending, and was my go-to paint for it. I think buying a couple pots of it and giving it a try may up your blending game! Sometimes, it really is the paint and not the painter.

War Machine was the first miniatures game I ever really encountered 'in the wild.' A buddy of mine needed to run to his house before a movie and he had a little card table set up in his kitchen with a bunch of models and paints scattered across it, and we had to relocate everything because we were taking the table to a party. It was kind of a bizarre moment, because we were friends through comics and video games, but he had never mentioned anything about miniature gaming in any context before that point, and I knew next to nothing about it other than being vaguely aware that people painted toy soldiers. By the time I got into the hobby myself, the good P3 colors were hard to come by, so this kickstarter has my name on it.

Cryx Bane Base too. It's like the cool version of GW Death Korps Drab.
