It took me 6 hours, following the video I managed to do the case swap, here are my notes: -have the tools which are used in the video, they are helpful -the replacement shell is a bit of a lower quality, transplant what you can from old 3DS. In my case especially the screen protector on the top is absolute trash, it scraches even if you look at it. -dont tight the screws to hard, first of, you could destroy the screw and get huge problems, secondly, the screws could make the regular buttons not work anymore if too tight. For example the stick will not move freely if the screws are to tight, or a shoulder button might get stuck. -have a lot of light -this video explains every step in detail, dont skip

I'm literally just here to see how to replace the upper rubber cushion strips, because i didn't know if they were glued on there, or if they were behind the screen. My old 3ds has broken hinge. It is totally playable, and with a case I can use it normally. I was thinking of changing it's shell to get the hinge thing repaired. But after watching the video, I don't I have the necessary skills hahahaha

I have an old one I don't use that needs a new slide pad and has some shell damage. I was going to replace the stick and shell and give it to a friend, but after seeing how obscenely complex that would be, I think I'll just replace the slide pad.

You can get the shells between 10 buck and 30 bucks depending on both color, and if its a special edition shell .The only thing you must worry about is how tedious it is to repair one of those suckers.

Check the connection of the ribbon cable, they are quite fragile as I broke mine doing the first attempt and had to order a replacement 🥲

Old Nintendo 3DS: Everything works beautifully, the problem is the housing/case. There is a significant crack in the left hinge of the 3DS housing. This is bad because the left hinge has the important ribbon cables and wires running through it. This will require an entire takedown and shell replacement. Is it better to do this yourself or pay someone else to do it? This is my only 3DS, I bought it used. I knew about the crack but I think it got worse. I haven't used the thing in almost a year in fear of breaking it. I want to repair it but I don't want to break the ribbon cables. What do I do?

if you have the tools,patience, and self-trust doing it yourself is always better than paying for it. Hopefully that helps. plus ribbon cables are not fragile. Its not flat paper and plastic, its molded plastic and metal. You'd have to try real hard or stab it hard to break them.

Hello. Maybe you could help. I follows the video step by step. My 3ds will charge but when i try powering it on. The blue light turns on for maybe 3 seconds and then turns off. The screens dont light up or anything…

@@RoyD2 No idea if you're still struggling with this since it has been a month, but what you have to do is use the very edge of the cable itself and use that to roll it and then push that through the hinge. Is it true that if you strip the rear housing screws on the middle bottom part that you might break something on the motherboard?

Stripping the screws will not break anything. You will have to drill the screws out if you wish to remove the housing, be very careful in that process as that can potentially damage the board.

How would I just replace the frame around the digitizer?

The frame around the digitizer just peels off. If you are trying to remove the frame without taking the console apart, that will be a little tricky as the frame is recessed into the housing. Best to remove the screen then carefully peel off the frame.

Still going to be a bit challenging as you would still need to disconnect the top screen shell from the bottom shell, and doing this you would have to be careful about the ribbon cable as they are a pain to deal with

The bottom is split into three parts, the back cover, bottom housing, upper housing (holds the buttons. The bottom housing can be fairly easy as it does not require hinge removal.
