I mean, anyone who owned an N64 could tell you straight away it wasn't "just for kids", especially given its North American advertising. This was also Nintendo's first foray into a Western gaming mindset since a lot of third party companies on board to develop the N64 were not from Japan. Aside from Rare, you also had Midway themselves. All of the MK games released in the mid to late 90s were on the console with no censorship whatsoever. You also had their experimental 3D fighters, Mace: The Dark Age, War Gods and Bio FREAKS, the first of which released only on the N64. There was also no shortage of violent FPS games such as the Quake and Turok games and of course you have the now famous Doom 64 which leaned far more into legitimate horror rather than just gorn. Speaking of which, this console not only saw a release of Resident Evil 2 (with all of its content preserved) but Shadowman as well.
@G.L.9992 жыл бұрын
Then there was Acclaim with Turok, South Park, Shadowman, Forsaken, and some other I don't remember. Then THQ would chime in with their wrestling product licenses converted into N64 games Then 3DO with the Battle Tanx games and Army Men.

"Rising Force" is the first album by Malmsteen - perhaps a nod to the him due to Star Wars novel "The Rising Force"
@AlefSousa0172 жыл бұрын
I would bet that the "yngwie" thing is because of two things: 1) The yellow color of the ship, which is also the main color that Yngwie uses on his guitars and even on his signature guitars throughout the years and 2) Because from what I've seen, this is the fastest ship in the game, and Yngwie most well known trait while playing is his speed, that his main thing: playing fast. So, they just probably thought: Yellow + Fast = Yngwie Malmsteen, and that's my guess as to why that's the code to unlock it.
@rob0623882 жыл бұрын
As a guitar enthusiast, I have to say that Yngwie's guitar is not actually yellow. He likes vintage guitars and what he was playing was a white guitar that had aged (like other white objects that age yellowish over time due to exposure to light). Any reproductions are trying to replicate this "aged" white paint job.
@AlefSousa0172 жыл бұрын

I don't care that PS1 had better graphics, N64 still overall had the best games ever in my book: Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Banjo Kazooie, Banjo Tooie, GoldenEye, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64, Star Wars Racer, Rogue Squadron, Shadows of the Empire, Mario Party 1-3, etc. I may be bias due to the nostalgia factor, but I don't care. My only real complaint of the console was the controllers' design. That's definitely something that Gamecube made a major improvement on, along with the necessary conversion from cartridges to discs of course.
@joshinnocent9202 жыл бұрын
I haven't stopped playing games since my first console in '89. It's crazy to see these videos as educational archives for a whole generation while I remember living in it vividly. That being said, I'd like to highlight something important. You'll see online a lot of nostalgia and revisionists history for the 64. It would lead you to believe that the system was as successful as the SNES, and carried well into the Nintendo Switch. This could not be further from the truth. This is the generation where Nintendo lost around 70-90% of their 3rd party support overtime. It was really bad if you were a Nintendo fan. Yes, Nintendo has their first and second party titles, which rarely disappoints. But gone were games by Squaresoft (Square Enix today), Capcom, Konami, Namco, etc. Also to note-Japanese game studios dwarfed Western Developers by a healthy margin. There was 10 Japanese games for every one Western game, as an example. So to wrap up--this period of time was a major momentum shift for Nintendo--and not in a good way. 1996 might have been their last good year. They would not reach this level of consistent success again until 2017...which if you're counting alongside the studio audience at home, is the current Nintendo Switch model we're at now.

Simple facts - N64 vs. PlayStation N64: + Very strong first party games library + Better at full 3D games + Near zero loading times on games. + Game files could be saved on cartridge and/or Memory cards + Better durability with cartriges over CD's. + Console better durability then the PlayStation consle + 4-player support right out of the box + Extensions such as Expansion pack, Memory pack, Rumble pack, Transfer pack etc are avaible. - Limited amount of titles and variety - Limited 3rd party developers and publishers - Limited memory capacity on cartridges - makes cutscenes and such content often scrapped on N64 ports. - Much more costly system to develop games for - Much more expensive to purchase games for costumers - Much longer development times for developers - Sound quality far less impressive then CD quality - Much more license fee costs for the platform - The N64 controller had a "clumsy" design and a fragile stearing stick. - Nintendo still stuck with cardbore boxes instead of plastic cases = 11+ / 10- PlayStation: + Console price was the best in the generation + Very strong library of first party library + Very strong 2nd and 3rd part library + Great memory capacity on discs + Much less expensive to purchase games for costumers + Great CD quality sound for its time + Cheap manufacturing costs for developers + Cheaper license costs for the platform + Much faster development times for developers + Lots of system extensions, 2nd and 3rd party accesories avaible for the system. - System more fragile - Not the best on full 3D games - Loading times on some titles are very long - A lot of shovelware titles on the system - CD's are more fragile then cartridges - Can only save game progress on Memory Cards - The original controller was not designed for full 3D experiences. = 10+ / 7-
