Ironically, starfy's lack of localization and transformation ability were the reason no one i knew as a kid wanted it. Everyone thought it was just a bad attempt at a Kirby clone, since everyone was playing Kirby Superstar Ultra at the time, and had no idea Starfy was already such a long running series. Really wish we hadn't all been a bunch of tiny hipsters and would've just played and enjoyed it lol!

Even nowadays I feel like most of the time when someone mentions the series, it's just to compare it to Kirby in a way where it feels like Starfy's entire identity to most people is just "Water Kirby" and nothing beyond that.

If I had all the power in the world, I would use it to make Nintendo treat EVERY IP they own equally. Not just Starfy, but also Custom Robo, Sin and Punishment, Fossil Fighters, Chibi-Robo, Nintendo Wars, even REALLY obscure stuff like Slide Adventure MAGKID or Doshin the Giant. Smash Bros. has shown that Nintendo has TONS of IPs just lying there gathering dust, and I'd give anything to see each and every one, or at least 80% or so, be given proper love and treatment.

The problem is, how do Nintendo and their underlings such as Game Freak, HAL, and Intelligent Systems keep making games for all the franchises once they run out of ideas? Mario and Pokémon are particularly cautionary tales of the consequences of running on fumes.
@jacobs.96614 жыл бұрын
@@autobotstarscream765 Well they could release only one game per series per console. One 3D Mario, one 2D Mario, one Zelda, one Pokemon, one Starfy, etc. They could also enlist Third Party developers to work on some, like how Mercury Steam and Ubisoft worked on a Metroid and Mario game respectively. They could also just make their studios larger with more employees over time, preferably young employees who may have played these games already, and have fresh ideas for them. They could also re-release the games on the eShop, and judge which ones have more potential by their sales, since giving every single one a fair shot is probably a real impossibility.

I didn't like the puzzles in Layton and ended up selling it when younger, but I absolutely fell in love with Starfy, and remembering how shocked I was at Moe being such a sweetheart for a hardy character, the cute costume and gacha side content, and the takoyaki and fishing minigames was great! Thanks for telling me how the other games went -- I had no clue there were four more titles, and it was a series!! My favorite character, by the way, was Bunston -- I always loved bunnies, and his story was the only game story to successfully make me cry around that time other than those in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games I had around the same time. Funnily enough, too, this game is what made me hone my button mashing skills as well for that final Mashtooth battle! I was so proud of myself. Again, thanks for the nostalgia! Played this game to death as a kiddo too, and I still have the cartridge!

I thought the story was the best thing before I saw the story of the third game and Moe's backstory which just makes me sad that this series may never come back. I grew up with The Legendary Starfy on my DS as a kid and loved it to death. a few summers ago I finally picked up the rest and even though I can't read Japanese, My knowledge of the US release means I didn't really need a tutorial and after each game I filled in any blanks by reading up on the wiki story wise. They are such a joy! I even completed the 3rd game to get the good ending. I feel if they remade them as a collection OR remade the whole series in one big long game that it would sell super well if they would just market it right. I always loved the story of the starfy falling down and working his way back home while stopping literal evil. I think Nintendo could easily push the concept of going on an adventure through the sea, sky and space really easy. Also the character interactions are typically full of character and very cute

I love this game so much, it’s one of the first DS games I’ve played and seeing people talking about it again brings me back so much nostalgia.

One of my favorite videos from you was definitely the Kirby Lore Explained one. I would be down for you making more vids like that in the future. The videos you’ve made on Underrated DS games are also fun.

Ah thanks for covering this game! When I was a kid playing the fifth game, I had always felt like I, as a player, was missing context, and looking into it confirmed my suspicions. But I was sad that they were never localised :( it was super fun though, and the music still plays in my head sometimes to this day.

What is with third installments in Nintendo series being depressing?

That is why Galaxy and the 3D Series never ended.

Honestly loved the video up until now I had no idea the previous games existed. I got the DS game when I was about 5-8 and I played the hell out of it as a kid I still go back to it every now and then. Honestly now knowing about the other games I would have loved to play them too bad they never got localized, here's to hoping someone translates the other games or better yet Nintendo release remakes of the old ones translated. Thanks for the awesome video.

If your looking for video ideas how about doing more "what happened to certain series" videos for series that have pretty much ended like MGS? Hell maybe even some more FF content since that is the namesake of your channel and your past videos on the series were excellent

Starfy's gotta be one of the best games I ever played when I first got my Nintendo DS. The amount of hours I put into it....and man, the fight against Mashtooth, or rather the button-mashing section, was BRUTAL. I always had to ask my older sister to help me out, and I played the game so many times that she eventually got super annoyed by me always asking for help on the boss. But man, some amazing memories. Thank you so much for reminding me of this gem Rpg Monger!

Amazing video. Always wanted to play legendary starfy back in the day but was always one of those games you intend on playing but never get around to.

I remember this series. I grew obsessed with this game when I was maybe 10 and soon discovered the Japan-only games through youtube. I never got to play them, but the existence of these games blew my mind. Still fond of this series a decade later and I'm constantly telling my friends about how great it is. It's easily the most nostalgic game of my childhood, it hurts knowing how obscure this series is. And now that I know the first game finally has a translation it is my duty to play it. I've waited far too long.
