It’s a really smart idea. Once people’s interest has peaked with the older titles they’ll most likely want to look into the newer ones. It’s a good way to get the newer games to sell more copies.

As someone who has wanted to get into pikmin and Metroid prime but never got the chance and dosent have access or the room for a GameCube, your exactly right about new people getting into the series. Metroid prime Remastered has me excited for prime 4 and I’m absolutely loving the first pikmin and plan on buying the rest of the series as well. I really hope they keep doing this because as a fan that only has a switch now it’s awesome to have all of them on one platform.

Yeah, I wanted to get into Pikmin for several years now. So the pikmin 1 and 2 is a great starting point. I could have bought Pikmin 3 deluxe a few years ago but the store didn't have the game only the case on display

It really IS awesome that the Switch is now THE home for Pikmin. (I'm sure there will be some Wii control defenders, but... the Wii doesn't have 3 and 4, heh.) Hope you actually buy Pikmin 3 and 4. Those games need to sell, ha. As for myself, those are the only ones I have so far, but I'll be picking up 1+2 soon.

I think the reason they’ve been so stingey with legacy content all along is because they knew they had a gold mine to lean on basically whenever they want. Got a new Mario movie? Remaster Luigi’s mansion! New Metroid? Remaster Prime 1! Pikmin 4? Send 1 and 2! This can be done infinitely, and I guess in their minds releasing these any time before that marketing cycle kicks in is inefficient.

I hope that at some point they keep in mind that serious can be restarted and reimagend. Zelda games can be played out of order, most are unique, only a select few belong together and form a mini-series. Pokemon dual releases are one line - but Legend of Arceus is its own thing. Metroid Prime is a series - but so was Metroid NES and Metroid on SNES. 2D Mario starting on the NES is distinct from 3D Mario. "Paper Mario" and "Mario and Luigi" are two different series (no, there is no Cross Over Game. That would be like saying there is a Zelda game on the CDi). I hope that Pikmin 5 will not be called Pikmin 5, but get a unique name.

Another good thing about these current wave of remasters/ports, they are cheaper then some others released in the past. Prime Remastered being 40 dollars and both Pikmin games being 30 dollars (50 if you buy a bundle of the two) is amazing because you know if they did this a few years ago, they would all be 60 dollars, but the fact they are being sold for less is amazing.

I think it also depends on how big those games are and how much effort they put into improving them. I still don't see them releasing Zelda games at those cheaper prices and the Pikmin games are probably also cheap because they didn't improve a lot...Prime Remastered however feels almost like a complete remake and still got a good price...but yeah, more remasters for possibly cheaper prices is always good. But if I could chose between paying more for more effort remasters like Prime or cheaper ones that don't improve much like Pikmin, I'd rather have more 40$ remasters...

It's also cheaper for Nintendo. The game code already exists. That's arguably the hard part. Updating the graphics, especially when you have the original graphics to start from, is relatively easy. It's a lot of grunt work but it's not creatively difficult. So Nintendo can afford to sell at a cheaper price which makes the consumers feel good too.

Maybe the shutting down of the Wii U and 3DS eshops signalled a new age for Nintendo to release more legacy content on their current platform. Finally played Metroid Prime and Pikmin each for the very first time this year and fell in love with both of them!

Back in the Wii u days they allowed you to get a free game if you purchase Mario kart 8 within the month it came out and I chose Pikmin 3 that game gave me so much nostalgia for Metroid prime that I would have picked up Pikmin 4 if I didn't have a massive backlog of games to play. It's in my futer log. At one point I just started picking up video games and never playing them because I just wanted to get to them eventually but I was playing through other games.

For a lot of years now, for every new announcement, stage-appearance, and Direct, I've been sitting there half-jokingly, half-desperately thinking to myself "Please, let this be the one. It's gotta be this one. It's gotta finally be time for a sequel to F-Zero GX". I played the ever-living hell out of that game as a kid, and even replaying it as an adult, it's STILL the coolest, biggest, fastest racing game I've ever played. Arlo's points here give me just a little spark of hope that they could actually do it. Even if it wasn't a full-blown sequel, and "just" a Metroid Prime Remastered-treatment of F-Zero GX, I'd be absolutely over the moon for that.

And it's not like SEGA doesn't release games on Nintendo platforms, so I wouldn't think it's beyond the pale for them to partner up again for a remaster.

I've been saying for a while now that it would be amazing if they remastered Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. A lot of people skipped those games because they were on the Gamecube and Wii, respectively, and it would be a cool way for modern fans of the series to revisit these titles, as well as letting Smash fans see where Ike came from.

Hopefully it’ll show Tanabe that people want the old paper Mario back and don’t really want dumbed down and bland pointless puzzle game paper Mario. Super paper Mario as well would be great. Origami King was alright but the lack of uniquely designed original characters outside the forced arts and crafts characters and the pointless battling system made me quit and then sell it. Found the first part fun but tbh, despite Origami King being stronger than Colour Splash and Sticker Star, I feel I’d much rather enjoy thousand year old door and Super Paper Mario. Yeah, I want Paper Mario to return to its original whimsical roots when being paper was just an art style and it was more focused on story.

Funny story, I had thousand year door as a kid and you know how you could level up your “skills” after getting a certain amount of exp. points? (I forgot how many skills you can level up) well I would only upgrade the same skill every single time and by the end of the game, I couldn’t pass the game because I needed to level up the other skills to beat the last boss. It was horrible I don’t think I ever fully passed the game as a kid. 😅

Especially if this ecosystem continues, it’ll be so absolutely incredible. Imagine launching a brand new even more powerful system that has such a huge back catalogue of Nintendo Classics on it. Especially with the NSO apps. If those libraries just keep growing slowly but surely, then by the time we reach the end of the next console generation, they could be treasure troves of old software that is readily available and easy to access.

It also helps that they don't seem to be worried about the classics being available on NSO and remastering them too. In fact, we'll probably see SMRPG get added to the SNES a couple of months after the Remaster comes out. For example, Switch can play both Zelda: Link's Awakening DX and the Switch Remaster. People like to play the old version of games to compare them with new version or will play the original version and then enjoy it enough to get the remaster. So I think the net impact is generally going to be positive. I also like that they opened the door to region locked games and canceled games with Earthbound Beginnings and Star Fox 2.

When they announced the remake of Super Mario RPG I was kinda shocked, cuz I was so resigned to them never touching that title ever again (because Square owned a lot of the rights to it). That game, along with Paper Mario 64 and Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, are my favorite games of all time.

I’m holding out hope for Kid Icarus Uprising since it was SUCH a massive and ambitious game and people took note… But since everyone already wants that too, I’d have to go with Kirby Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot. Oh and also EverOasis. No other reason, just that I like the game’s setting and gameplay setup and I think it would be neat.

I would love to see them bring those Kirby games as well, but not sure they will do it now that Kirby’s 30th anniversary is over, so if they would’ve brought those, it would have been sooner like around when they brought over Return to Dreamland onto switch. Also wish they ported Epic Yarn to switch instead of porting it to 3ds in 2019, of which unlike Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot, I’ve never played Epic Yarn. So hopeful they eventually port that, too

I agree, Arlo. Nintendo’s making a really excellent decision with all these remasters. A lot of these comments say the same thing I’m about to, but giving us these legacy titles will introduce and/or coax us back into their IPs and give them popularity again. The more popularity they gain from remasters, the higher the demand for sequels. I’m seriously holding out hope for Kid Icarus to make a comeback, painfully so, so hopefully we get somewhere good with this.

I can’t believe twilight princess and wind waker still aren’t on switch when the next console is very likely going to be launched next year. Especially when they already did HD remasters for them on Wii U. I could see these as a shadow drop now to extend the Switch at the finish line

Secret Mine was the snowy mountain log cabin mansion while Treacherous Mansion was like a culmination of all the mansion themes combined into one big, final mansion, with different exhibit rooms representing the prior themes and aesthetics

I became a Pikmin fan because of the legacy bundle. I haven't bought it yet because I like physical, but them releasing it and caring about the series, and how cool they looked made me try three. Now I'm extremely excited for four and one/two, and will definitely be picking them up

I've seen a bunch of buzz about Pikmin online recently that I've never seen before, even somewhat hitting more mainstream gaming circles. It's very cool, makes me feel like 4 could do VERY well, especially considering there's not really much else coming up soon. It's also a very "summery" game for the most part and suits the vibe. It literally comes out RIGHT once I go on break so it fits the schedule pretty insanely well for summer holiday game.

Nintendo Europe's RND team really knocked it out of the park, but we need Virtual Console back. The only thing I don't like about the shadow dropping is that for people who prefer physical they have to wait quite a few months before they can get their hands on it, but I do think it's important that Nintendo capitalise on the initial excitement straight away. A tough one

I’m pretty sure this is what’s gonna put the switch to year 10 as they planned. Remasters and remakes are crowd pleasing, easy developed, nearly guaranteed successes. It also builds recognition and excitement for future releases. It’s actually a master stroke if you think about it.

Remasters are a great way to extend the life of an aging console. I feel that the next console is still a ways off (maybe another year or two out) and remasters help to fill in the gaps in the game release cycle (since the focus is likely shifting to developing games for the new console) and giving the switch a bit more mileage before its successor is released.

that may likely be why they waited on remasters! they allow for a buffer before the next console's games, especially since we really only have a few completely new first party nintendo games to look forward to rn with mario wonder and that peach game. I could see the next console launching in 2 years with a new animal crossing, 3d mario, or mario kart game as a launch title since those games sold so well

There's so many games I would loe to play again, but I'm very much not gonna bring out my old consoles, if I even have the game anymore. I really hope we get an actual SM64 remake, heck a DK64 remake would be a dream. Even a Chibi Robo remaster would make me so incredibly happy. The possibilities are endless since there's so many amazing games they could remaster or remake.

@@KobeLoverTatum The problem is that people don't already own these games. Most people don't have a GameCube or N64, and a lot of people have been born after those systems released (myself included). A lot of the titles for those systems are very expensive now, and a lot of them have outdated control schemes too. That's why remasters are so valuable and I and others will buy these games for the first time

This was so extremely overdue. Only giving players a single month to get through 1+2 (and possible 3) before 4 releases is insane. I'm still flabbergasted that they didn't just do the full Pikmin 1+2+3 trilogy as a single package back in Spring/Summer 2022.

Not really that insane in Pikmin's case. I just finished all three games in 5 irl days, which is about 35 hours combined playtime. Just the first two was 20 hours. Granted, I know my way around but was a little rusty. Maybe double my playtime for newcomers, and 50 hours in a month for 1+2 alone isn't that insane of an ask.

Never played Pikmin in my life, and have never cared because I had no way to play them. When they shadow dropped 1+2, it got me interested, so I plan on picking it up to play on a plane flight next week. If I like them, I’ll pick up 3+4 too. And that’s the beauty of remasters.

I’m so simple to please that if they did these ports without enhancements I’d be happy but all the work getting put into each one so far has been outstanding. The pikmin bundle was absolutely perfect timing. I was upset I didn’t pick up the Wii ports before the Eshop closure and it’d been bugging me but then they go an do the switch port. Hope to see double dash or the pokepark games come back

Honestly, I'm loving these remakes. I had a GBA when I was growing up, I bought a 3DS in college and a Switch after I graduated. I never had an NES, SNES, GameCube, Wii, or WiiU, but I'm getting to experience all the classics like Super Mario Sunshine and Pikmin 1&2 for the first time.

They aren't going to. The vast majority of Zelda fans have only played BotW and TotK. They are not asking for a remake of the Oracle games or Minish cap, they are asking "open world Zelda with X thing." It is making so much dadgum money there is absolutely no reason for Nintendo to remake or port old titles, let alone make new more traditional Zelda games. It will just distract from sales of Totk. We are not going to get something like Wind Waker HD on the switch, in five to six years, we're going to get a BotW esque game sailing on the ocean. It'll simply be replaced. People will forget that wind waker ever existed, and those that do know will have little desire to play it, because it has been harvested for parts.

Just this year Kirby RtD, Metroid Prime 4, Advance Wars, Baten Kaitos, Pikmin 1 and 2. I do feel they're leveraging more their old and new content. Since new content seems to be steadily becoming more expensive to produce. I see it a bit like how Capcom has been doing these collections and rereleases along with some new entries and remakes.

And then right after you beat Bowser, Kamek shows up and teleports you into a second HUB world with a whole new set of more challenging levels that take advantage of the incredible moveset and mechanics of 64.

Those remasters didn't happen earlier because they were porting all those Wii U games first for years. Now that they're finally done with that, we get ports/remasters of games that haven't been released in a while...can't wait for more HD releases of Gamecube, Wii und 3DS games!

It's been great seeing Nintendo embracing HD remasters this year, if the rumours are true then Paper Mario TTYD might be coming to Switch in the future, which would be so cool, and a smart move for testing the waters for a classic PM experience in the future! Gave my copy of pikmin 1 and 2 on wii to my younger cousin. Later find out that he loves them so I couldnt ask for them back, that pikmin 2 was insane prices and that I had a real hankering for pikmin 2. Praise da lawd. I just bought it on switch. Its golden. As good as child me remembers.

They have suggested that Primes 2 and 3 will have straight Switch ports without any visual enhancements besides being HD but that's fine. If you ask me, the thing I love about Metroid Prime Remastered is how much they preserved the original experience. They didn't remove the little annoyances like respawning enemies, only being able to lock on to bosses after you scan them, increasing Samus' movement speed, and even the classic controls option is mapped in such a way that you can play it with a Gamecube controller and it feels exactly like how the original played. They didn't "modernise" anything. It's just Metroid Prime with nothing compromised besides the graphics, which even then they're very faithful to what the original was going for.
