NIO wants battery swapping for other automakers and to focus on service

In this video CleanTechnica journalist Chanan Bos interviews the general manager of NIO Norway Marius Hayler and the two discuss a variety of topics from from company's openness to the focus on service and even that NIO would be willing to share battery swapping technology with other automakers to make a universal standard.

I think a good majority of European countries will be receptive of NIO, regardless of it being Chinese. They got a clear and solid roadmap that fits the agenda of a green future.

Well personally I was impressed to the point that it makes me split on whether I want a Tesla or a NIO, I think that is basically the greatest compliment I can give. Are there any questions I can answer? Or ask NIO? Since I will be at the launch on the 30th.

ATM they cannot make enough for the Chinese market, Norway in a few days & Germany next year with 3 more EU countries following soon thereafter.. My guess maybe 2-3 years IMO. This could be possible when NEO Park is completed, not before..

NIO needs to start consistently meeting delivery expectations before I take the company seriously. More imperative to get vertically integrated like BYD (BYDDF) and Tesla, to a degree.

NIO does own 100% of XPT which is the electric motors and drivetrains factory for NIO.. JAC does the assembly & is co partners in manufacturing NIO vehicles..

Sharing chargers is much easier than battery swapping technology, for this other carmakers would've to shift to NIO standards like having the same chessy, bolts, batteries and etc.

Considering the extreme complexity of the technology, to the point where even Tesla abandoned this, I would not trust a European or American made system easily. The only reason I trust this one is because they already did millions of successful swaps. When they first announced this, I thought they would fail, I was proven wrong. I have said this before, I used to be skeptical about NIO, but wow was I wrong. A big part of it is that people just don't know any better yet, we need to share this information with people.

@@AaronStarkLinux Battery swapping is also good for apartment complexes that don't have chargers as well as for long road-trips. Sometimes its nice to have a half an hour break form driving, but half of the stops could instead be quick battery swaps.

First, battery swapping is not the only way to charge NIO. Daily , you can still charge your car at home if you have a personal charger. It's just give you an extra option plus reduce your worry of missing new battery technology as you can always upgrade. Second, think abt cities like Shanghai , New York , London , Tokyo, can you imagine if 100% cars are electricity car ? How the city going to support the needs ? Whats kind of infrastructure is required to support the power . Battery swap sounds a better solution , just like petrol station .

@@AaronStarkLinux but you don't need to charge 10 cars same time at peak rate. You can charge 10 batteries at slower rate

Hopefully .. in the near future, the EV batteries can be compact and dense enough to be detached like a portable battery and brought home or a charging station to be recharged. It would be much more convenient and practical. Imagine, we can even order fully charged batteries online.

You may have missed something. NIO has a service called. NIO power where at the touch of a button, NIO will come to you and recharge your car no matter where you are. The swappable batteries is pretty similar to what you are desiring. You know I had a disclaimer at the end that I took out. But basically the interview was a last minute idea, all our technical questions we had to take out becuase they needed time to figure out the right answers, but we did since get those answers they can be found in our review article.

@@cleantechnica even the interviewee was embarrassed by your flattering questions and suggestions, it does not look professional. Even in promotional videos, they ask 1-2 hard questions. It is OK to be biased and have financial benefits (e.g. Tesla Daily), the only thing is to keep being professional and transparent.

Tesla Daily getting benefits? Sounds unlikely. In any case we get nothing from this. We just want to promote the best EVs out there. Right now as far as we know that is Tesla and NIO. Don't call me a Tesla fanboy or a NIO fanboy, if anything then a good EV fanboy. Our review of the Fiat 500 is coming soon and that too is amazing EV in its own way.
