The Nissan 370Z and 350Z are special cars in the automotive market. They're both stylish sport coupes with decent power when compared to the competition. The 350Z is the performance bargain of the decade while the 370Z is the current "RAW" driving experience that is hard to come by as far as new vehicles offered.
Big thanks to Richard for letting us use his 2016 Nissan 370Z Nismo!

Actually, I have a 2004 350Z and a 2014 Infiniti Q60S and I love both. I tried a 370Z and although more powerful then my 350Z, I prefer the ergonomics of the older 350Z. I don't know why but the older 350Z, especially the base with cloth seats, I find the most comfortable to drive. The 350 also has a road feel that is a bit better then both the 370Z and the Infiniti Q60S. As for an old 350Z being a bargain, be careful. They are expensive to restore. If you have a shop do something like an AC compressor and clutch replacement along with the master and slave in the clutch, it will set you back over $3,000. These cars always seem to need a new flywheel and that sucker is expensive. As for automatics, they suck big time. Yes a slush box will do 0-60 faster, but it will not last and is incredibly expensive to replace. Plus, who wants a true sports car with an automatic? Even my Q60S is a manual shift. Of course my Z is a manual. My Q60S has 12 way power seats and they are leather and to be frank,l I prefer the feel of the base model 350Z's manual cloth seats. They are just more comfortable and I do not slide around at all on the Z's seats. One thing. The base model Z's have a horrible sound system. The Q60S has a Bose system and in the Infiniti, it sounds amazing. In fact the subwoofer is a little too much in the Q60S.

I remember years ago when I started working as an emergency Auto technician @AAA. The first 350Z I ever did a battery jump for I was absolutely overwhelmed like how cool and unique the car compared to other contemporaries. For a time I had a supercharged NB Miata, Jaguar XK8, SLK 230 6-speed, and most recently my beloved 1970 Volvo 1800E, and I thought that was the end-all-be-all, then moved on and purchased my first 350Z. I was very fortunate to come across 1 ownercar 38k mile car. I did not even test drive it. Gave a deposit, and after I sold my Volvo I picked it up. I can't wait even though I drive all day for work to get in the Nissan and take it out on its paces! I have sat in a new 370Z and was absolutely impressed. Both excellent cars and even compared to driving a Porsche that was a 2008 911, yes it had plenty of pick up and power but for crying out loud the clutch was awful. Even compared to the Porsche I think the 350Z has a better interior the Porsches even from that same area or complete garbage. And don't even go with maintenance issues. As I look on,this car is such a great car to maintain for the average person with some mechanical skill or if you're up to learning or looking at your videos.

Very well done Anthony. I've owned my 07 for a year now and love the hell out of it. A friend of mine recently bought a 2019 Heritage Edition 370z. Even though it's a great looking car I still like my 350 more. Interior wise I would love to have the 370's but, like you, I have put a lot work in my interior keeping it looking factory fresh. My friend had a 350Z nismo manual and a automatic 350Z base. When my van's transmission took a dump, he let me borrow the automatic since I don't know manual. He put me on his insurance and I just paid him my part. (He owned the automatic and was paying off the nismo not leasing it) As a guy who's first car was a van that bought it off his mom for $500, I didn't know what to expect. After a while, I fell in love with it. Two years after that, I had saved up $3500 for a down payment for a car. Mind you, I was not a "car enthusiast" at all. I owned a van and didn't know anything about cars. I thought about it, and wanted my own 350Z. But then...my cousin who I hadn't seen in forever, came to visit and had a freakin 2013 base 370Z. Let me tell you- I wasn't aware there was a newer gen Z! He let me drive it and now, I own a 370Z! Sorry 350Z, but the Push To Start won me over.

It's amazing the tech. has evolved - I remember back in the day (graduated HS 1992) my dream car was the 90-96 300zx. I'd read all the car mags. and it seems like every month it was 300 v. Rx7 v. 3000GT v. Supra V. THEN came the turbos hashing it out for top podium. I now have an '06 350Z and sometimes I just look at it and think back if I'd had THAT ONE in high school. I've done a lot for it. I bought from a co-worker with only 65K on it. It's amazing how the Z32 had 222hp / 300 for the turbo. Now, the NA's are pushing well over 300hp. Add a supercharger or turbos and your only limited by $$. It will be a sad day if everything goes electric.

Well it depends, what if you do know the history and owner of a vehicle? It's not too hard to tell if a vehicle is abused/ neglected. There are pros and cons to purchasing new and used. When you buy used, typically even if you had to but a new motor and transmission in, it's still cheaper than the new version. I don't buy new vehicles because I don't agree with over complicated vehicles that are hard for the weekend mechanic to service. To each their own right.

Great point, brother - I bought my 06 for 7600 with only 65K from a co worker/it's crazy clean and even has the window sticker in the manual! - So, I've been looking at the Vortech Supercharger kits and while crazy expensive, it's STILL cheaper than a Supra or 370Z. From what I've read, you can get over 400hp, which would be tons of fun. So, by the time it's all said and done, if you have 20K in it spread out over a few years, it's STILL cheaper than buying a new car....unless you blow it up HAHA

Having driven this particular 370Z and owning a 350Z with some bolt-ons, I certainly saw little comparison in driveability. Having said that, you make a good point on the value of the process of creating your own sports car through research, personal style and hard earned money with a significantly lower budget. At the end of the day, the 370Z will command a much higher resale value if left relatively stock and will drive like a new car.

I had a 350Z which I traded for a 370Z and then traded it for a Cadillac ELR hybrid. I eventually moved into a condo where I could no longer plug in the Cadillac, so I sold it and am back to a more recent version of the 370Z. The latest Z needs some work done, mostly cosmetic and the suspension which is bagged, but the wheels have negative camber and need new tires which I will correct at the time I replace them. I am older now but have always had sports cars but the 370Z was my favorite which is why I am on my second one. The Cadillac was very economic and luxurious but not as much fun to drive which is why I went back to the Z even though it is so low I have problems getting out of it. This is my fourth Z and I have loved them all but the latest version is a step backwards in style so I would never buy one.

Get the RJM pedal because it will make your hydraulics system last longer. If it's anything like a 350Z the stock pedal over extended the master and slave and I think your slave is internal and hard to change if it goes. I think Mishimoto will have a nice vehicle specific oil cooler for you. You could do the solid bushings but you'll have to pull out the entire sub frame to do the job, the collars are WAAAAY less work and worth trying, might be enough for you. Definitely go poly on the diff and transmission as well.

Actually the helper spring in the clutch pedal helps prolong it. Pretty sure VHR stands for VVEL (variable valve event and lift) High Rev
@brandonsever2576
@brandonsever2576 5 жыл бұрын
VVEL is a variable valve lift system. Basically when the engine is idling, the valves are opening very little, but when you floor it, they suddenly start opening as much as they can. This eliminates the need for throttle plates as the gas pedal is directly related to valve lift. This also increases throttle response because there's no space between a throttle plate and the combustion chamber like there would be on a regular intake system.

Only disagree with your explanation of modifications. Modifying a car (or anything in general) is like adding levels of sophistication to the vehicle. Being said, anytime we learn more and more about something, the more we appreciate and value what we are invested in. Right or wrong, the people that purchase cars that aren’t into them any more than what they are [transportation] , they are most likely going to buy the most basic and cheapest car they can afford. Your basic car enthusiast will probably find more satisfaction buying something that is a little more integrated, tailored towards what they need like space, aesthetics, economics, or even color. People who like a car for their performance and don’t have family or have to haul stuff around will most likely buy a sports car. I’ll jump ahead and say people like you who look to cars for an intense hobby, know a lot about them, appreciate the value, love all aspects of a vehicle, and constantly finding themselves looking for a new challenge, are constantly adding those layers of sophistication to the car to fulfill their desires. As with anything, the more you know about something, the more you want to know or experience more - it’s as simple as that! Passion is good - we all appreciate passion!

@davidmadras721
@davidmadras721 5 жыл бұрын
AnthonyJ350 Appreciate it. Although I’m mainly talking about the reason why people modify. They are usually the ones who are more hard-core into their cars and love to learn more and more about driving, the mechanics, different cars - makes - and models, tuning, and of course - aftermarket equipment. All I’m trying to say is that if you take me for example. I love sports cars and have always driven a sports car (coupe and mostly 2 seaters) my whole life. I appreciate them, love to feel the road, the handling, and acceleration when I drive. However, beyond the basic’s I’m not a car enthusiast or know a whole lot about them (especially the mechanics) so I’ve pretty much always been fine with what the car has given me and never had the need for any modifications. When the first Z came out, I was in my early 20’s and already making good money so I splurged on some aftermarket wheels and a really good sound system. As I got older I realize I have no desire to do such upgrades even though I throughly enjoyed the upgrades. I’m just not that heavily invested in my car knowledge of wanting or needing to fulfill any of my desires because I guess I just don’t think it’s that important to me. I think if I would have taken my car knowledge to another level (like you certainly have) I would have done so - no doubt. I really think the more invested someone’s knowledge about something is, the more appreciation is gained, and the more you’ll be apt in adding more layers of sophistication to match your passion. A more philosophical way of looking at it I guess. However, it’s relatable to almost anything in life!

Why not? I'm in Canada and that's how we're taught to pronounce it. It's not wrong, just different.

Really depends on the style of vehicle you want/ need. Do you care about having more passengers? I would prefer the style and experience of the 370Z, but I also have a pickup for a daily.

There are some relatively different choices there. I was never a huge fan of the genesis coupes. There is way less potential vs a 370z if you want to mod it at all. The 2012+ mustang is really going to be a very different driving experience. Not really a sports car, softer suspension, not awful handling, but this was before they went all independent suspension; gobs of power though. If it were me, I'd only be interested in a 370z from that list. G37 if you want more luxury, but I personally dislike the looks of the g37 coupe (g35 had nicer lines imo).

I think it depends on what you like. I daily my 2011 370z, so I’m biased. IMO, if you like back seats, get a g37 coupe. If you don’t have a need for back seats, the 370 is awesome to drive. Like the other dude said, the mustang feels much less like a sports car, more like a normal car with good power. The 370 feels like you’re in a cockpit of a jet! I like genesis, but they tend to be overpriced on the used market. I got my 370 8 months ago and it is awesome!

yea im leaning towards the 370z cuz i don't care about backseats and I love the roundness of it for some reason like the fenders but if i do get it i want a duckbill type spoiler. Thanks alot guys

Sorry but there is nothing analogue and raw about a laggy throttle pedal overly-controlled by the ECU unit in the 370Z. To get a substantially better driving experience you have to go with a car much older where there is an actual cable connected to the throttle body.
@AnthonyJ350
@AnthonyJ350 5 жыл бұрын
I didn't find it laggy at all. The variable valve timing does most of the work so throttle plates actually dont do much in these engines increasing throttle response. They're like wide open at a certain low certain rpm. If you find throttle by wire laggy it can be tuned but the pedals do feel light compared to a cable I'll agree. Was it a Nismo you drove for that assessment?

@@AnthonyJ350 Hi Anthony, I respect your opinion. I did not own a Nismo but I owned a Sport Package for 5 years. I should also note that I own an S130 among other older sports cars. I also own a late model 6 speed SUV that suffers from the same problem (although the 370Z is somewhat less) the throttle position sensor is taking an average reading of what the foot pedal is doing over a course of a certain time frame or "throw of the pedal", if you pump the gas pedal in neutral ever so slightly it is delayed and taking an average reading of what your foot is doing, it is not a direct 1:1 correlation of what you are making the pedal do. This leads to a laggy throttle response as well as a soft roll on throttle, even if you stomp on the gas pedal. Now I hear people say good things about getting a chip tune, even besides the added horsepower that it provides.. But to pay close to a grand just to get the gas pedal functioning like a proper classic sports car should, is complete crap. As I stated, I have a late model SUV that is a 6 speed that has the same problem, it is not just the 370Z, I believe it is all or almost all new cars. The slow roll on of throttle helps against drive train shock, gas mileage, as well as keeping idiots from breaking traction and abruptly loosing control of their vehicle. Much of this having to do with the EPA, so I get it.. But from an enthusiasts standpoint, it is a compromise to make a vehicle mass sellable, and IMO, not worth paying 30+K on a vehicle that has half of the excitement of something that costs a quarter of the price. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGe6kGZvqLCVaNU Please disregard the title and comments of this video as they are not necessary to understand what is going on in this video, this is normal operation of the 370Z's throttle pedal. When he performs the slower input from his right foot he is getting higher revs than when he is doing the slow input, even though both times his foot is going to a relatively similar position in the gas pedals range. Because the sensor is taking an average position over a certain course of time, the slower response actually gives a higher rev than the quick response even though the amount of pedal given is approximately the same,. This is what is wrong with the 370Z and I assume most new cars from the factory and IMO why an older thoroughbred sports car will always be a better driving experience.

Hmm i feel as if once tuned a 350z Hr and a 370z VHR are pretty close in performance with maybe the 370z getting the top end on the 350z hr. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5-oaal_arx6jbs ^ theirs lots of videos on Instagram and youtube that show Hr’s hanging with other tuned and bolt-on 370z’s. Now the 350z DE and DE-revups dont really compete but otherwise can be made pretty quick cars but their is a night and day difference between the Hr engines and the DE engines.
