While battling crappy weather and a broken video editing computer, I swap out a Broken MR18DE engine in a Nissan Cube, amongst some other malarkey including going to the Trampoline Park for Jake's Birthday party!

Do you have a full video of the Cube engine removal. Mine has 298,000 (approximately) miles on it and today it blew up, lol. Something broke as oil came pouring out of it and lost all power. It has had 3 transmissions already put in it. I’m looking at trying to source either a complete with trans or maybe even a swap for something else. Thanks

I don't, it was a fairly labor intensive job with lots of parts to remove and install. It would have been a very boring video to cover it all.

Boring yes, long even more yes. lol I am just trying to decide if this is something I want to try to tackle myself. Been also looking to see if there has been any kinda engine swaps to get rid of the CVT. I do appreciate your response.

My engine is shot in my 2009 Cube. Had the head gasket replaced but it’s still consuming coolant and spark plug foul after 10K. I’m sick of paying for repairs and just want to swap out for a another used engine. My local Nissan specialist wants $4100 out the door for the swap. Does that sound reasonable?

Touche homie! The saga of my 2009 Nissan Bube (deliberately misspelled) started as a P0301 (misfire Cyl1) that would not go away before the pandemic, replaced almost all the sensors (Mass Airflow to Crank Position), Cyl 1 fuel injector, fuel pump, all 4 IG coils and plugs, considered replacing the wiring harness, reprogrammed ECU via eBay, you name it! All in vain until I bought a Bluedriver OBDII device that helped me figure out it was the head gasket all along! My honest mechanic said no thank you but referred his go to mechanic buddy who said it would be $3k or higher for a head gasket job and strongly opined that it was a temporary solution at best and would call back. He did and quoted me $2500 + 1 year warranty to swap the engine. Parts and labor included, I'm in Houston, TX so your $4100 quote must mean you live in LA, NY or Chicago but that's just me going on a tangent. After thanking him and hung up I said "Huwhat? Sheeeeet!" For that kind of money I might as well do it myself, so, after eBay sellers wanted an arm and a leg + $200 shipping for a junker engine I tried good old Amazon the other night. Now I hope you'd find one like what will be delivered tomorrow, but I bought the last $450 tested, used MR18DE engine which totalled $487.13 with FREE shipping! Bessler Auto Parts was the seller. After my order went in, the only price I could find for the same search costed $950 from a different Amazon seller. Nuff said because I have a Nissan Cube engine removal video to watch and y'all know I have my work cut out for me and then some. To you my brother in pitman arms I say, never ever take the 1st offer and always get a 2nd opinion. Amen!

What's wrong with the orig engine? Mine has a piston ring issue. Thinking about replacing the engine but not sure I can handle the work.

Cylinder 3 broke its piston skirt. The MR18 engine was designed in conjunction with French car manufacturer Renault. Its fairly well known to be failure prone, especially cylinder 3 for some reason. Its a large job to remove the engine on this platform which you will need to do in order to rebuild the engine. Its possible to do yourself, but will definitely be a very involved project. Machinery work will need to be done to the block as well. Good luck with your project.
