Nissan R32 Skyline GTS-t Type M - Review of a JDM Legend

Filming this review presented me with a handful of firsts:
1) First time driving a right-hand-drive JDM
2) First time driving (or even sitting in) a Skyline
3) First time my expectations for a car were exceeded so convincingly that I now MUST own one at some point in my life, preferably as soon as possible

I owned one of these before my s2000. They're very cheap in Australia being so old and imported from Japan over a long period of time. Definitely an easier, and more rewarding car than the s2000 on the limit - although the s2000 does feel more nimble. They don't look as good as the R32 gtr - the flared rear arches and front grille on gtr add significantly to the aggressive stance. The gtst looks a little 'thin' side by side. Although the gtr has more power it also has more weight - the gtst is lighter and rwd is fun if not ultimately as quick. Another downside is the age, these are cars designed in the 80's and wear and tear takes its toll. Awesome car though. These Skylines seem to be having a popularity spike in the US - no doubt as you were denied them for so long.

+P-J Mudie To me, the R32 GTS-t feels/looks like it should cost a lot more than it does. Similar to how USDM 300ZX TT, Supra TT, FD RX7, NSX, etc. prices have shot up in recent years. I supposed not being a GTR makes it a lot less desirable to most, but I challenge anyone to drive a nice example of the GTS-t and not fall in love with it.

Even in stock form, the car is still good looking. It's a testament to the car's designer, Naganori Ito. Just put a side skirt and that's probably enough for some people who wants to make it look sportier yet this car is still good looking even with stock bumpers on. It's funny because the design still has its appeal to this day, then Ito did something right back in the 80's. I like the design due to how it's looks like a daily car as it was built upon a production chassis. Proof that you don't always need to have a GT-R to look cool and thanks to mr. Ito for his effort in designing and building this iconic chassis.

@@tylerc2287 219k km isn't 86k miles lmao. The math is dividing it by 1.6 which would be 137k miles give or take. Japanese importers are pretty sketch for the most part as there's really no way to give them any kind of repercussions. Living in Canada though there are a few very good reputable importers that import the mass majority of cars here. R32s have been in Canada forever. We use to get them for $6k now your talking $18k easy, why? Because the USA market went bananas over these cars. In stock form there slow as shit. I'm pretty sure a modern Civic is faster. You need to dump a lot of money into them to make them fun. There's a lot of under the radar imports that are a much better bang for buck value.

Cluster swapping is super common on old skylines. And wow 10k that’s not bad at all. Japanese Classics LLC is based out of Virginia and already have most of there cars imported. It would be a lot easier for me. They want 15k for a type M which I really want. But this guy here just got his skyline for 7k and then fees... good deal

I got used to it quicker than I expected, but the trickiest part is changing lanes and getting used to your blind spots!

Sorry to hear the owner's experience with the dealership but glad to hear he's enjoying it. Very cool car! There are US importers like Japanese Classics where Doug Demuro got his GTR. You would pay just a little more than importing directly but it seems worth it to avoid the hassle.

with regards from NZ I know all the RB engines like a nerd, but the RB20DET has the strongest block out of all RB engine blocks i don't know why. That is why when modded they scream the loudest. I do own m-Type like you. You should of done better due diligence and researched harder. but at least your are happy and that is the main thing. if you want to modify the RB20DET make sure your get a RB25 GEAR BOX. The RB20 gear box's cant cope with over 300HP

This really isn't a bad alternative to the s2k at all. Perhaps not as sharp overall but easier to get more power out of definitely looks fun in its own way plus far more unique than the s2k in the states atleast.

Dude that wing ruins the beautiful lines of the R32. Try and find one of those short trunk lips (think bmw E46 CSL but much more discreet...some jdm company makes them, can't remember the name) and try to source a type M front bumper. They look much better and go with the factory side skirts and rear end caps that you have on the car. It will really complete the car exterior wise. Wheels look good, not a fan of chrome but the design is nice.

xAlr - Most RB20 came with a boost pebble. Restricting the boost. It was a clever way for emission back in 90's - Most RB20 push 225 at crank and rhe R33 GTR were near 300BHP too not the listed 276 :D clever nissan ;)

I own a 32 GTST Type-M (Check channel), mine running around 300bhp, get it to that and you'll have a heap of fun! I advise replacing the inlet with a forward facing plenum though, FMIC, full 3" straight through exhaust system...and up the psi to 10-11 :D

There is no need to replace the plenum, plenty of people making a lot of power with the stock one and buying a cheap forward facing one is just asking for trouble.

+DriftNick I run a forward facing plenum and found the throttle response was in fact a lot better, it also makes working on the engine a little easier and shortens the pipe work for the FMIC. It has its benefits.

I paid 4k for a gts25 with a rb25det long block, then paid 1100 for a manual box which has 3pce synchros, all new bearing and was chemical washed so its basically new. Just in the middle of putting it together now. Worst part is they sprayed over the original graphite paint with Matt black 😡🤢🤢🤮🤮

True numbers for the R32 GTR is 281whp/323bhp. 276bhp on the paper is BS. Going for a daily R32 GTR in 2 years myself. The 89 models are going to be considered veteran cars due to being 30 years old thus lumping all the government fees together into a pocket change sum. It doesn't matter on emissions either, the fee will stay the same regardless if it's a veteran. Have to go for a factory stock model if possible. Won't be able to make any changes whatsoever if I wanna keep it road legal due to paper restrictions. Then again I don't want to tamper with the car except repair. These cars are good enough as is besides the above restrictions mentioned cripples all attempts if you wanna keep it on the road.

if this were the Awd Gts4 model it is actually faster then the Stock r32 Gtr, yes the Motor is 2.0L its still a inline 6 vsing the ( Legendary 2.6) there is over 180kg in Difference between gts4/gtr Also both use the same Awd system/5spd gearbox only comes down to the Motor being different, Once you modified however Gtr comes back to beating it since the rb20 isnt a great motor passed 350hp However for this Owner should tell him when he mods to find Rb25det Possibly from a R34 gtt Much stronger motor more torque actually take more of a beating then a rb26 an Much cheaper to rebuild not that you need to rebuild since seen 100s of them go into the 500-550rwhp Stock bottom end with cams/ e85

1) GTS4 faster than the GTR... source? Having spend my teenage years with these cars I know GTRs are quicker. 2) The drivetrains are not the same. Ratios differ, not to mention the GTR has a mechanical LSD, the GTS4 does not.

Friends Gts4 smoked my Old R32 93, ;) we both Track, By drivetrain i mean they both use the Same ATTESA system, No need to get Every diff part out , Gts4 is Way Lighter, On top end the Gtr Catches up but for a Long run Both had jasma 2.75" as only mods, no retunes, he took me for the first 300metres, half infront, an had me from Launch

Kind of what I expect to hear back. My buddy had a r33 gts -T with basic bolt ons and it was much faster than I thought it would be. It was neck and neck with my 13.5 sec hatch.

Yea man Montu is no joke. They are 100% legit and won't screw you. The price you see on their site is the legit price. They might charge some extra fees for paperwork but I don't actually know.

If anyone wants to import cars themselves into the U.S go to tradecarview.com and then search for Daishin Auto, I imported a gc8 sti wagon into Canada through them. They seem to be the most reliable and honest dealers I've found so far. A lot of companies try and fuck you over with fake inspection and tax fees. I waited about 8 weeks and got the car over for $5500 CAD total.
