Hello! I can’t for the life of me figure out how to remove the relay to bench test it. I know it was two years ago but it’s sleeting and 16°F at the moment. Any clues appreciated. I’m fairly experienced as a driveway mechanic but there is not a ton of online content for the frontiers. Did you need to use any screw drivers to get the relay off the metal bracket or wiring connector?

Hey Zach. I use Lisle 46950 Relay Puller Pliers, they work great! You can find them online or at the local automotive store. Sometimes removing relays without damaging casing can be so frustrating. I've got a 2000 xterra 3.3L, manual. Made it to the 310000km mark. But I believe the fuel consumption could/should be better. On a full tank, I could maybe get 350km before the fuel light turns on. Other than that the vehicle is rock solid with an exhaust leak. Does this sound like a fuel system problem?

Ok literally used this video to change the pump tonight Feb 3 2020. Seemed to go smoothly, but the car is running rough, hesitating when applying gas pedal. Pretty sure the install is good, any ideas? I saw a different video that mentioned disconnecting the battery can cause temporary issues. Could it be that simple? Maybe it wasn't the pump at all? Symptoms originally were stalling not restarting. Engine turning over good but failure to start. Then would start after sitting awhile. Any insight greatly appreciated. Cheers

Greetings Joe! I am glad this vid became helpful. Do you have any DTC (codes)? 1. Check if you have signal from can?crank sensors. Does your tachometer works. 2. Look for ignition issues, could to random or consistent misfiring. 3. Check for any vacuum leaks at the intake. 4. Test what fuel pressure reads at idle and wide open throttle. Let me know how everything is going. Cheers brotha!

@@PistonShack Codes are indicating a temperature sensor and knock sensor. Basically new fuel pump for nothing! It was giving symptoms of a bad fuel pump, though. It seems the temp sensor was telling the computer the engine was running hot via a lean condition, so it was flooding causing the engine to act as though it was starving. Saturday is tear down day, if all goes well I can post back here with an up date. For those tackling a fuel pump it is really pretty straight forward. Cheers

You skipped a very important and very frustrating step: when you disconnect the external wires and hoses, you can't just pull out the top lid part with the float. It has lines on the bottom of the lid which have to be disconnected and can be easily broken. It would've been nice to show us how to disconnect those fuel line clips without breaking them, as I can't find the info anywhere on the web. These connectors aren't like other connectors apparently (except for the one with the sliding insert in between the two sides of the connector). 2003 Xterra

@@PistonShack But otherwise I found the video more helpful than anything I could find on the net. These videos are helpful for guys like me - I am comfortable with mechanical tasks and I have done fuel pump changes, just not in THIS particular vehicle. I still broke one of the male connectors on the fuel tank sending unit and would love to know how this connector is supposed to work. Its not like the others - two have a female ring that you squeeze to push into an oval shape so that the two inside tabs expand, the third has a slip ring. This 4th one has four inside tabs. I've tried squeezing at 12 o'clock and 6 pick positions, I've tried squeezing at 3 and 9. I've tried using flathead to lift female ring outward, but it has 4 inward pointing tabs are 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock). Any advice? I've scoured Google exhaustively, nothing out there that looks like it.
@PistonShack5 жыл бұрын
Hi, I see. Are you talking about two connectors on top of the fuel tank? One of them is for the fuel supply another one is return line. Correct? To disconnect those ones you need to get Fuel Line Petrol Clip Pipe Plier Hose Release Disconnect Removal Pliers Tool. That's the way to get them disconnected without breaking. Spray WD40 or any penetrating on connectors. It really, helps to make them slide easy. Squeeze the tabs then carefully pull fuel line connector off. I actually have the video how to disconnected those type of connectors. Just need to get editing finished. Yeah, let me know if you have any questions.
@4wardnthought2345 жыл бұрын
Oh I see now. Your video was very helpful and your advice is very much appreciated. For any other do-it-yourselfers: do yourself a favor and buy a "fuel line disconnect tool", it basically takes two halves of a cylinder, squeezes them together so you can slide it down into the fel line connectors. And it looks like it should work on ANY brand or style of connector because it pushes the tabs outward. Cheap and very helpful. Thank you for a great video!
