Great video! All business and no fluff! My 2004 Xterra with 215K miles started stalling on me. Never changed the fuel filter, so I'll try that first. If that doesn't correct the problem, I'll change the fuel pump.

@@MAGATonyG The fuel filter wasnt the issue. I changed it and the behavior didn't change. I haven't had time to work on the car anymoree, so I still have the issue. The car has been sitting for a year! I have three other cars.

The first generation Xterra is a bit underpowered, and heavy but it's a great vehicle worth keeping and putting a little money into, my 2002 has 245,000 mi and runs very good and reliable

Hello from cali, I came across your channel when you were doing the headgakset on this xterra. I have a 1985 300zx (z31) turbo and they have similar engines but the xterras are a 3.3 and the Z31 is 3.0. And i was just curious as to how the headgasket process is on a vg motor and it seem pretty easy thanks to your video.

Great video! I'm about to do this job as soon as my pump comes in. Do you absolutely have to drain the tank? (mines full) And other than disconnect the battery is there anything else to do to depressurize the system? (pull fuse, etc)

M r Nathan Love your video. My 2003 Xterra super charged also needed a new fuel pump. She died at a light and would not start. Thus a new fuel pump was put in.Now She runs fine but in the morning she starts and then has a surge like she is gonna go then stalls. Put key in start again then runs fine. What could be wrong my mechanic can not find a code???? This problem has Cost me a lot of money. Can you give some advice on what can be wrong. Angela

HELP so i have a 2003 xterra and the little plastic part you connect the fuel line to nuste doff as i was trying to disconnect it. the fuel pump is fine i just diont know what to do! i went to napa and they mentioned a new fuel pump but i dont see the part i need when buying a new fuel pump. i just need that plastic connector piece

I did not. It was checked and the block was perfect still on the straight edge.

I've seen it called a fuel pump bracket, but not sure of official name. Do yourself a favor & buy the whole FP assembly, and all the potential parts that need replacing are there. Make sure it includes the sending unit, because most of the time that's what actually fails. If you know how to use a multimeter check the pump and sending unit to see which went bad, and can replace just that part. Because it is a common failure, I'm ordering spare whole assembly to use as backup parts.

I did this but the new pump is not getting power the pump will run if you run it on a 12 v battery in a bucket of gas i have power at the 2 pin plug white/blue black wire, i think the connector is broken or corrodded on the underside of the sending unit

The wires were reveresed on the new fuel pump wiring harness, the pump would run but wouldnt pump gas, reveresed the wires truck fired right up!

Do you feel like it was worth it or was it one thing after another that made you wish you passed it up? There's a $1,000 Xterra for sale by me that I'm looking at but wondering if an early 2000s model is close to that point where things start to fail like dominoes so you're always chasing parts. What's your advice? Are Xterra models the kind of vehicle that tends to stay fixed, after fixing them up?
