Great and informative for those of us just getting into 1/8 racing. The level of awareness the pros have regarding their cars is a detail I think is often overlooked. A lot of people think the pros are just better drivers (and they are) but it’s more than that. They wrench, maintain, and know every mm of their car and how it’s setup. Also, which is my biggest struggle, they know HOW to make changes for variance between tracks. I can identify things like “my car is over steering on entry” or “the car is under steering off power” but how to correct that, I have no idea. The pros do. Thanks for helping us learn Adam. Good vids.

There will always be a battle between electric vs nitro.. great video. The technology is what is pushing the brushless setups.. with lighter batteries and more tech in speed controls its hard to compete.. I love nitro and tuning the carb and smell of nitro.

Hey ADAM DRAKE! The 'DRAKE". The Nitrogang wants to thank you for your contributions to the hobby. We all want to know which you prefer, NITRO or Electric? Not based on winning, only based on your appreciation of the engineering involved. On my channel we love to race electric with old stock nitros, and then RIP them while hitting that second gear!!

Great video as always! Good to see you embracing the differences between the two cars instead of trying too hard to make your e-buggy feel exactly like your nitro, ie. not using that Tekno clutch. Electric can be very enjoyable with current technology and suits the casual racer well in terms of relative simplicity and ease of maintenance, etc. Nitro is just an entirely different dynamic. There’s something special about the sound/smell of those .21 engines, the lighting fast pit stops and the long mains. Nitro suits the hard core racer that has the time to put in the work needed to enjoy it. Then of course there’s everyone that runs both classes that face the issue you discuss. Enjoy nitro while you still can, it’s easy to imagine some day California will ban it on an environmental basis. Keep the excellent videos coming, thanks!

Great Video Adam, I have been doing exactly what you said in the video and get the two cars to handle similar and the hardest part is to have similar power delivery. Really stood out for me how much easier it was to drive a nitro buggy on a low grip track compared to electric buggy and i was 2 seconds a lap faster with less power in the nitro. I started tinkering with the Tekin ESC and turned a lot of settings to lower torque and smoothing out power and braking delivery with the frequency settings , the one finally adjustment on the radio which made a huge difference was backing off the throttle EPA from 100% down to 85%, it made the car very very similar power delivery to my nitro buggy. If you are lacking power in a nitro buggy wouldn't you just put a bigger venturi in and retune the motor?
@AdamDrake3 жыл бұрын
Very cool! Yes, a larger venturi will increase overall power for nitro.

I don't know about any other track, but I asked this question at my local hobby shop who owns and runs our local track. He flat out, told me the electric buggies and druggies are faster than the nitro on our track typically by around two seconds a lap his reasoning, was they get out of the corners faster because of the instant torque, having said that there will never be a replacement for a properly set up vehicle with a good driver, who knows their vehicle
@daveyboy2933 жыл бұрын
What would you think is the fastest Adam? Are your lap times pretty much the same for both classes nitro and ebuggy.

Great video. But in all honesty, electric cars are faster. In raw performance the e buggy will always win. Nitro is for the passion, puriry and the sound..
@ktmbikes92273 жыл бұрын
Nitro is great but unless you spend £1000+ on a real good engine and racer kit, or you will have a nightmare with cheap parts and never ending problems. Unfortunenately nitro is dying and not advancing so its faiding away but I prefer Electric now as its alot easyier and I spend less time trying to get the engine to run.
@AdamDrake3 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it depends on the region, but nitro is still pretty strong. Electric is awesome because the electronics are getting much better.
@afrewer943 жыл бұрын
There are plenty of great engines around the $200-250 range these days that are easier to tune than ever. Alpha, Werks, Performa, etc.
@ktmbikes92273 жыл бұрын
@@AdamDrake In the UK Nitro is pretty much on deaths door unless its on a track. Parts for nitro are getting harder to get as most stocklists are selling 80% Electric, this is one of the reasons why I have switched. I miss nitro but I dont miss the hassle and I can get out driving in 20 minutes with my Ebuggy, all I need to do is charge my batteries. Plus it gives me way more time to tune my car after watching your videos :) keep up the good work
@ktmbikes92273 жыл бұрын
@@afrewer94 Tuneing was never a problem I had as I loved tuning my engines, it was the cost of fuel,bearings,glowplugs, starter parts, filter foam ( It rains alot here). I dont have a filter to clean and I can drive for a long time without going to the store ( UK RC shops are the worst) You need to spend £500-£600 on a good engine in the uk thats if you can get the parts.
