Cedric & Ada Gear and Outdoors , hey Peter, hope life is treating you and yours well. I was wondering if you could maybe do some more top 10 videos? Or top 5 whatever lol!, thanx!! Love your videos bro, your killing it!! Question, would cru-wear be good on a survival/camp knife?

Ur editing on that vanax is super clean! This video just made my decision on the quietcarry drift! I keep rusting the Cao outta my m390s and well basically every steel I own in 100 degree 100% humidity weather here in the south of the US of A!

Thanks. been looking for these results. did you find vanax a little more difficult to sharpen? I did. but, you confirmed my experience, vanax has more edge retention than LC200N. also better rust resistance. but I have not seen it compared head to head with H1 for the "title" in rust resistance. Larin told me both these steels outperform magnacut in rust resistance. but, of the four rust resistant steels, you've shown magnacut has the best edge retention. so, thank you for that.

Thanks Pete for the vid and thanks Colin for knives This was fun to watch. Looks like Vanax (blue handle) was tougher then LC200N, less damage, the bailing wire is nice eh? Less Destructive then a big ass nail but still can see some differences without losing a knife.

Big Brown Bear yeah the z finit had a bigger void in it that the vanax and the 3v which were about on par from my POV. If this was my knife, it would be eating some bolts I reckon hahaha. But trying not to damage in a way that I cant undo heheh
@FearNoSteel6 жыл бұрын
so what do you think Pete, is Vanax enough to steal your heart away from LC200N? Would you pay $75 more for the same knife in Vanax?

These steels are absolutely amazing. Its great to see these being pushed to the limits. I'd like to see how Spyderco Byrd bd1 stacks up seeing as I live in Canada and mid to high end knives are expensive let alone something with a premium steel. I can literally buy a crap car and put it on the road for what some of these cost here lol.

These results are actually pretty awesome considering. I hope we can start to see more usage of LC200N and Vanax in pocket knives in the future!

I was thinking, when you do the crazy steel vs metal tests, you could also do a run on a hard surface (no wood), like a not hardened steel. You should get the toughness/ductility of the steels without the kinda random lateral force. I mean later strength is an important characteristic, but it's a bit harder to test correctly on the edge, without specific instruments! Btw, great stuff, love those test videos.

Pete, is Nitro-V, similar to AEB-L the same thing as Vanex? Great vid! Thanks!!
@CedricAda6 жыл бұрын
no vanax has a whole lot more nitrogen and vanadium in it that nitrov. Recipe wise, Nitro V is very similar to 14c28n: Nitro V C: 0.68; *V: 0.079*; Cr: 12.98; Mn: 0.78; N: 0.1098; P: 0.019; S: 0.002; Si: 0.384 14C28N C: 0.62; Cr: 14.00; Mn: 0.60; N: 0.11; P: 0.025; S: 0.010; Si: 0.20;

One thing I've learned from these videos is you will never get good results from a work sharp edge. That, and how important good sharpening is.

In regards to the ken onion knife sharpener I think that’ it’s hard to get a perfect angle for knives using it
@Puddspanker2 жыл бұрын
It's junk for precise edges. And I refuse to use it on my premium knives. I'll use it on machetes, axes, scissor and what not though.

INFI. Steel of the gods. Look it up.
@CedricAda4 жыл бұрын
I know about INFI. Its a branded name of a steel called A8 mod. It has .45% carbon, 7.94% chromium 1.37 molybdenum and 0.4% vanadium, and a whole lot of manufacturers mystique from hoardes of fervent fans. It is remarkably tough given its low carbon content, but its absolutely nothing special chemically, and any efforts to test it that dont produce glowing results get screamed down by Busse loyal folk who have thousands of dollars invested in blades made of steel also used on woodchipper blades. I’ve played with a busse and the edge was so darn thick I couldnt reprofile it without lowering the value to the point the person loaning it would have hated me, so I tried to run it through my rope tests in a different way with a pretty unflattering result, got hate mail from Busse guys so am pretty much leaving the stuff alone cos there is a far too loud group of the community just not open to challenge on their viewpoint in any way.
@Greenmachine3054 жыл бұрын
@@CedricAda I own enough Busse blades to know that the heat treat is decent (for wood chippers) but the vast majority of blade geometries and ergonomics are amatuer at best and unuseably, incompetently designed at worst. The only reason I even brought it up was because it was purported to have nitrogen in its composition. I completely agree with your assessment. Most Busse owners would be better served by a $5 hatchet.
