The reason that they made Maidens go into these boxes was to make them into "pillars", that hold back the mentioned Black Waters, which are from Yomi, the underworld. These pillars are then shoved into the Shadowspring where the black waters stem from and they will be holding back the waters for eternity, they will then either rot or become a Tokoshiebana. These Maidens were also tasked to hold onto their pain as they become pillars, to help lessen this pain they would perform these "Marriages", to help share their pain with another. Because of how unique Ose was, she was going to be a "Great Pillar", the strongest form of Pillar. However Ose's pain of never getting to say she loved Kunihiko, alongside the pain of the shrine maiden's deaths, the pain Ose had developed within her was too much and she couldn't hold it in, because of that the ritual to become a pillar failed and the Black Water escaped. In the good ending, Yuri feels the pain Ose had within her through touching her, and now having finally shared her pain Ose can now rest and the cursed Black Waters are then once again sealed away.

Putting it simply she is a ghost dressed commonly in a white kimono who tends to abduct children. The tall woman(hasshaku sama I believe) is honestly my favorite part of this game. With my favorites moments having to do with her. Particularly during a home defense section where at one point she stood with her face right in front of a second floor camera, while she was standing on the first floor. And later when I tried to leave the security room to go to another and I open the door and she was literally just right there, bent over with her face in the doorway smiling at you before she disappeared. She didn't hurt you at all, just spooks you because it's fun. Which is also part of why I like her. Tmk she is the only ghost in the game with no real backstory to them. Nothing tragic happened, no ritual, no unfortunate death. She is just a legitimate evil spirit who finds enjoyment by tormenting you. There's no explanation behind her or her actions besides the sick joy she gets from what she does, which stands in stark contrast to all the other tortured spirits who come after you and others for some kind of logical reason or due to some trauma. Also love how Ayane tried to fight the ghosts and got her shit fucking wrecked. She first appeared in DOA btw though it seems DOA and the current Ninja Gaiden series share a world

Lol no lie, I started this video to play it in the background and looked up when it kept making horrible noise. I think the switch version fixed most of the complaints you had. Honestly I just use the follow ghost to help me figure out where I'm at. Since, he can be very useful for new comers who play the wood levels. After, a few play threws to power the camera. The ghost guide. Did what he needed to an I like that . Plus, the ghost helps with seeing things you may have missed . I never noticed the weird walking stuff you had on the switch port. So, maybe it was patched in the re release version. Otherwise, I love FF MOTBW . Besides FF2 and FF 3ds. I feel like the spooks offer some fun that could be fun to new comers. With some good horror that's not just all blood an gore . I hope someday you try the re released version. I think it's like $40 vs the wii-U $70.

I do not remember the game as it has been 5 years but there is at least no random or official statement that the overall game is canonical. Maybe the event itself did not happen because it is something optional or whatever and actually not canonical but in general without an official reason there is no reason to call it that. Edit: The above guy is literally not making sense because that is not how canonicity is decided. His post sums up to the old "I did not like it and others did not like it and I heard a developer did not like it so I claim it to be a fact that the developer decanonized it." That is not how things are de/canonized. I am not defending the plot here btw. but canonicity logic.

Yakusoku no Ji I have a theory. What if it isn't canon at all? But it takes place in a different universe... Na, that sounds too crazy to be true. I think they just made the game for a cash grab, but that could have ruined the plot itself, so yeah! 🤷‍♀️

@@colleenglanville8293 I would not worry to much about it as it is fairly insignificant to the overall story of the 5th game and it is just a weird story about some ghost that happened long before the games' present (or whatever, as said, it has been 5 years since I played it but that is not really important for the point I am trying to make, so even if it was not that far away time-wise and it was about the character's parents it would be off the point). Besides horror genre from Japan often have such creepy things. SIlent Hill 2 had Angela, a victim of her father's child rape. How is that any more acceptable as theme in a beloved game? How is child rape and murder (Angela in Silent Hill 2 and Murphy's child in Silent Hill Downpour) in any way "better"? It is not. It is terrible. Incest as a theme is creepy for many people because it is both socially not tolerated and hasthe chance of bringing forth disabled children but I would argue if I am forced to watch a story or read it where somebody mentions either a child being raped/murdered or it even being alluded to or some chick having married her ghost brother hundeds of years ago I pick the latter one (to clarify it here, I like the Silent Hill games more but they focused on it differently - I am merely saying if I had to choose between these themes in isolation of wht is provided by the rest of the game). Just because I do not want any of it in these games but if it is there it is there.

Good points were brought up but I gotta disagree overall, I had a blast with this game. What this game knocked out of the park and the strongest asset that it has is atmosphere. The music and location had me creeped out and sort of on edge in my play-through. Plus the motion controls could be tweaked to not be cumbersome. I had mine set up to tilt the camera but still use the TV and sticks to aim the camera and it was perfect for me (this coming from a person who HATES forced motion controls). I found the game such a great experience that I have the remaster pre-ordered for my PS5 and can't wait to be spooked again :). Again, good points and solid video, different strokes for different folks etc lol

That tall Ghost appeared way too many times on my first play through. The way she talks and comes at out is wonderful. It would be very nice if all the Fatal Frame games would be released on Switch with an optional Labo Camera Obscura peripheral.

Nice video! Weird how your Fatal Frame retrospective also kind of incorporated a 3DS and WiiU retrospective too. As a fan of the series, part of me really wants more games, but after watching your videos it brings home how they've kind of gotten stuck in the "place is haunted because of a failed ritual" groove. Here's hoping if they do make more, they'll innovate the story too and not just the controls!

As Nitro said, horror is a good medium to discuss taboo topics such as incest. Having a character in the game committing incest is an interesting topic to have covered in a game like this. bigevilworldwide1 why do you assume that I don’t know how resolution work, or what takes up files size? I’m fully aware why a game like Sonic CD is 500 MB and a game like Mario 64 is only 6 MB, also not once did I complain for resolution and ask for 4K graphics, to me PS3 graphics were all we needed and those games were around 5-15 GB in size, quite manageable compared to today’s standards where games take over 50+ GB just to download the base game, I literally ran out of my allowed internet a few months ago downloading a demo on PS4 that turned out to be 75 GB in size. Edit: also the Wii U allowed to use a hard drive where as the Switch only uses micro SD cards, not only are those far more expensive but the bigger ones aren’t available at many stores.

Wii U was released before people were bored of the Wii. Fatal Frame is also entirely underrated. Fatal Frame 2 is the best for sure. Compared to 1-3, 5 just wasnt as good (not that it was bad). Altho I didnt play 5 til the Switch port.

That was probably one of the 2 GBA games that was relesaed on virtual console. The West really got shafted in terms of Medabots games, though..We got like..three, and there's tons more that are Japan only.
