kind of. it's a trigger engine, albeit an inefficient one. assuming your unblockable creature hits, it's damage dealt to the opponent (trigger 1 type A and two creatures dying (triggers 2 and 3 of type B) for RR. Not terrible, but needs a proper setup and gets stomped in competitive play. As a flavor play in a casual tribal deck, it's a viable add

I think Wandering Goblin and Goblin Machinist were too high on the list. They're crappy and mana-intensive, but they have abilities that can do something. On the other hand, there is no situation where Mogg Jailer is anything but a Grizzly Bear with a downside. Its floor is a 2/2 defender and its ceiling is a regular 2/2. I'd take a card that can at thereotically swing for 10+ damage over that.

@@XCodes I firmly believe a pet card can be anything from awful to super great. Scroll Rack is my favourite card of all time and it's definitely by no means bad. But if we're just talking bad pet cards, I put the storage lands in every 2 colour or less deck, and Teferi's Isle in every blue deck I run.

Got a weird idea for Mogg Squad. Play it in a boardwipe based deck like Zurgo Helm-smasher. Drop a board wipe, then play Mogg Squad. Let your opponent play 3 creatures to kill the squad, then drop another boardwipe on those creatures. Worst case scenario still gets you a 3 for 2.

Ahh goblins, they sure make for great comedic fodder. But what they also do is apparently have a *lot* of shit printed for them. Goblin Flotilla is a special favourite for just how great its flavour text is though. Perhaps, with enough bribery, it could make it onto "Top 10 Vintage Cards (Minus Power 9)"!

When I started playing (~1996), most goblins were so bad that I thought they were designed that way on purpose, for the sake of (a) flavour, and (b) compensating for all the tribal support they got at the time. I.e. you can either have a good creature with no tribal support like Serendib Efreet or Birds of Paradise, or you can have a bad creature with lots of tribal support like Goblin Hero. This was before Onslaught came out, when Wizards started to really push the tribal elements of Magic.

I feel that goblin is so supported as a type that it's a big plus side. Even a 1/1 goblin is good enough sometimes, especially in standard. I can't wait to see what a bad goblin looks like

I guess wandering goblins could have a home in a Kenrith + Zirda companion EDH deck. If you have 6 mana and every land type (niche I know) you could make the goblins a 25/3 with trample until end of turn

I play domain and Nishoba brawler, released in DMU, is a 2 mana */3 and * is your domain so that powercrept Wandering Goblins which is funny. Even Sunbathing Rootwalla can be consider to Powercrept Wandering goblins.

There’s something weird about the flavor text on Mogg Squad, like it’s supposed to be referencing something. All I could think of was that old protest song from the late 60s that goes “Stop, children, what’s that sound?” Also the card name sounds like “Mod Squad”, an old crime drama from roughly the same era. *shrugs in mild confusion*

"Mod" refers to a counterculture movement from England in the 60's. "Mod Squad" was already slang before that American TV show borrowed it. And Buffalo Springfield, who made the song in question, was largely Canadian. So some lines are being a bit crossed, but it's been used as a general counterculture catchall before.

Glad to see Bog Hoodlums so high on the list, always hated that dumb card and judging by the fact that it was guaranteed to be the last card in any draft pack it showed up in, so did everyone I played with. Probably the worst card in the whole Lorwyn set.

Mogg Jailer is pretty bad but since it only cares about your opponents' creatures' powers and not toughness, that does mean it can sometimes trade when attacking contrary to the description

You play Mogg Squad where its the only creature in your deck. Then everything else is creature removal, and anthems for your board. Probably not a great strategy, but it could work

To be fair it was supposed to chain with all those overcosted cards in Scourge (like Scornful Egotist) which was supposed to have been the gimmick for Scourge... problem is it was such a stupidly clunky mechanic that no one ever used it on block even when it was standard

Wasn't Goblin Machinist technically good - or at least reasonable - in block? Because if I remember correctly, after Onslaught came Legions and then Scourge which both focused on large, costly creatures (in case of Scourge anyhow, Legions were more like "everyone gets a token" kind of set). So even if he wasn't quite useful, he still carried some weight and was at least very thematical.

goblin Machinist is a pseudo repeatable erratic explosion. First you attack for 0, then after blockers are declared you activate the ability. If the deck is built right, the revealed card is Draco for +16/+0. If they failed to block the 0/5 they are in for a lot of hurt. Admittely my erratic explosion deck now runs spellbound dragon over this guy. But he still had a use at one time.

I know this isn't the best video to ask this unrelated question, but the question is on my mind, so I'll ask it. How good/bad/horrible would a (custom card I play on TTS) B (one black) 0/0 with persist be? The idea was that it triggers on death abilities. I have no idea how it would be rated. I honestly can't say if it's busted or bad. Edit: I have been out of the paper game since Mirrodin, except briefly for Innastrad. So if it seems like I'm ignorant to the obvious, it's because I am. ;|

yeah a 2 mana 3/1 defender is probably a better limited card than a vanilla 3 mana 2/2 like goblin hero, it's more likely to be able to trade for something relevant early.

No Crazed Goblin? I'd argue that it's not just the worst goblin in the game but the worst card in the game. Every card on this list (and most top 10 worst lists) can at least be argued to be playable in weird or corner cases in some random deck, but a 1/1 goblin for 1 with downside is unplayable in EDH for the sole reason that there are dozens of better 1/1 goblins for R so there is never a rational reason to play the card, literally ever. It might not be as flashy as other ones but if there is never ever a reason to play it, surely it's the worst card ever.
