Hey guys, stumbled up your videos after searching about staking a bolt carrier key. Im a retired LEO from NJ 18 years ago. (When I retired I was a PA resident and even as a retired NJ LEO, I gave up trying to get a conceal carry permit due to the red tape), I haven’t been back there in 12 years, miss the pizza, that maybe it... However, just curious, an AR-15 can be butchered to be NJ compliant, but why is the M1 Carbine on the ban list?

cal30m1 thanks for stopping by! Yeah NJ is ridiculous. The reason the M1 Carbine is on the ban list is because it was banned by name including the Galil, FAL, Famas, etc. So anything containing that name is banned in NJ. Yes it’s just as ridiculous as it sounds.

It’s such a shame because when I worked in North Jersey, there were new carbines being made in Plainfield and Dunellen. NJ produced weapons banned in NJ, can’t get much more pathetic than that. What’s next, outlawing the Singer made 1911?

I’m almost certain that a muzzle brake only has to be pinned as long as the barrel is 16 inches on its own. It has to be pinned and welded if the barrel is less than 16 inches and you are using the muzzle brake to bring it up to the legal 16 inch length.

@@ElMenorLatino I think you’re referring to the case in NY vs NY Rifle and Pistol Club to make may issue states to shall issue. It will depend on how the case rules. I highly suggest you do not apply in the mean time because if you get denied you have to put on every 4473 (gun application) you purchase that you HAVE been denied a permit or a gun application in the past.

AR-15 is legal in NJ, what is no good is "adjustable" (pinned is a loop hole on that) stock and no flash hider. Don't quote me but i think the have to have 16" barrel min. "Others" are getting around the adjuatable stock, barrel length and flash hider with the "others" configuration with is a pistol brace that looks similar to a stock but it is not and can be adjustable, also they have a front grip or whatever they are calling it. The Troy comes with the Lower Engraved "Other" so it can be explained to tue police when they tell you it is illegal and want to arrest you. This is why building one can be tricky.

Hi Jim. Unfortunately most PCCs are illegal in NJ. They don’t allow carbines by name in NJ. Best bet is to get a handgun or a rifle chambered in a pistol caliber such as an AR-9

Great video but these jersey laws are very confusing. I have a couple at-15’s that are jersey legal. I do have an uncle that just offered me a build kit for a 300 blackout. It has a 8.5” barrel and a “flash can”. I’ve never heard of a flash can before but he insists it’s all legal. Only thing is I have to buy a stripped lower, and register the lower as an “other”. Do you have any idea or information if I wanted to buy it from him and keep it jersey legal? Or what requirements to make it legal?

Building others in NJ is tough. It is supposed to be stamped other on the receiver however an 8.5” barrel would not cut it unless you welded the flash can onto it.

I believe you can make it into an Other firearm but not an SBR. You can make an AOW in NJ but it must be registered with the ATF and you have to go through the whole process.

Yes but most places charge a transfer fee as well as fees for making it compliant. You may be better off buying it from a local FFL

Not in NJ but some companies make what is called integrally suppressed guns that are silencers built into the gun

They have a full length 16in barrel and the stock has to be pinned. Takedown guns are not illegal in NJ they must have a full length barrel though.

Stephen Sampson verticals foregrips are not illegal on AR Rifle length and Other firearms. Other firearms must have a vertical foregrip and not hand-stops. Hand-stops are ok on rifle length ARs however.

It’s legal in NJ then don’t stay away from it for one minute just educate yourself on it. It falls into the ‘other firearm’ category which many manufacturers are now making for states like NJ and are legal. Just barely legal? Maybe but hey, it’s approved. The pistol brace and verticals grip must stay on them at all times in NJ.

Joel Beckford thank you Joel! Unfortunately you cannot poses an AR pistol in NJ. The closest you can get is an ‘Other Firearm’ more or less an AR pistol but NJ compliant. A lot of the compliance work doesn’t have to be done.

bravo for other firearms you just need an FID. But for a handgun yes you need a separate handgun permit for each firearm.

SirHotness MM is a great option. There are plenty out there depending on your price range. I would say you should expect to pay around $1000 for a good performing AR. MM makes a great one, the Sig Tread is great, Troy A4, M&P Sport, etc.

creaturecore13 if they release one with a 10.5in barrel and the overall length is greater than 26in and they put a vertical front grip on and stamp ‘other firearm’ on it, then they can legally sell them in NJ. You would have to get a local FFL to ship one here however. I would try asking if they plan to make other firearms for NJ and then go down to your local FFL and ask if they can obtain one for you.

Mike K I would look into the Other Firearms like the Troy A4 and the Modern Material Short Barrel Rifle. They are very much an AR-15 but go around many of the compliance laws here in NJ because of their classification.

Other firearms can be built. They are legal but they must be the same exact configuration (overall length, barrel length, etc.)

Pistol grip is considered the only tactical feature you can have now so no flash suppressor, no collapsible stock, no bayonet lug, etc.

Im about to turn 18 in november, do you guys have any recommendations for what gun I should try to get? I am extremely new to firearms having only fired a shotgun and a rifle once back when I was in boy scouts.

Batcenti at 18 you can only get long guns or shotguns. I would go with a Ruger 10-22 for your first. Small easy to use and learn on and will last a lifetime.

In New Jersey, on a full sized rifle, you can have what ever muzzle device to want, as long as it IS NOT specifically labeled as a FLASH HIDER.

I would get a 12 gauge shot gun for home defense they are made to be shot from the hip. The .223 AR-15 does not have the stopping power. I have a .500 Beowulf that uses some AR-15 guts but I bought it for a reason. I go to places with bears and I can't transport bear spray by air. I would rather have it and never need it than not have it and needed it. I only had to shoot at an animal once a cougar forced me to shoot the floor outside between her paws. The noise scared her I got lucky I wasn't forced to shoot her. It was a real pretty cougar I reckon she had cubs.
