I love where you say at 2.47 to not go looking for your issues. It completely rings true and I can relate. Twelve years ago my head was full of things to overcome and I decided to write a list of all the things I wanted to change about myself, for example anxiety, perfectionism, low self esteem, defensiveness. That way it wouldn’t all be swirling around in my mind and I thought I’d be able to prioritise them and then work away at one thing at a time until I was amazing. Unfinished at seven foolscap pages I was ready for bed. The next day I decided that what they all had in common was self-judgement and feelings of unworthiness and I worked on that instead. I am loving your work Damon and can only imagine who and where I’ll be when I’m finished learning from you and doing the exercises. Thank you. Life changing.

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, it's much easier to start with what's right with you and focus on creating more of what you want. Obstacles and limitations will arise as you move forward. Deal with them as they come up. Resolve them as is needed to become who you want to be and create the life that you want to live.

Just read this at the right time! I have also written down all the things that I want to change about myself. I was thinking that maybe there is something else like a believe of unworthiness. Every day I am becoming more an more aware of the pattern of unworthiness in every aspect of my life. To anyone who reads this: I am wishing you all the best in your journey of Self-Awareness. ❤️

Another great and informative video. I want to go back to making a lot of money but I "believe" I will be giving up my time and life to working and not enjoying my life. I took a business course to learn how to turn my work into a real business and I realized how I had to become a marketing-machine and I thought "no, I can't be that".

This has been a VERY helpful video !!! I've been looking for a way to "fix" myself (I'm stuck, have been stuck for a VERY LONG TIME). I've watched a lot of videos, paid for courses, books, etc... - this way the 1st time limiting beliefs were defined, identified, and explained how to "fix" them without paying $50 or suffering through many hours of dry lectures - and still had no answers !!! This was truly helpful - I will watch this video again and go through the steps of identifying and fixing my limiting beliefs --- Thanks very much !

I believe patterns of behaviour are a function of some un-resolved trauma during various life stage development; My own father suffered from immaturity or the absence of adult competency; This is what was modeled to me and nearly cost me my first marriage. By happenstance a caring person helped me identify what i was doing as an unconscious pattern. Helped a lot; allowed me to re-pay child support without all the drama!
@DamonCart

That's good to hear. Patterns of behavior can also be positive and learned from good role models. Not all patterns of behavior come from trauma. Limiting and negative patterns of behavior tend to come from trauma but even those don't always come from unresolved trauma.

This is super, thanks Damon. I'm learning the tibetan practice of Chöd which they call "feeding your demons", and the aim isn't to fight the internal causes of your problems, but instead you personify them, welcome them, talk to them and give them what it is they actually want. This is very similar and fits in perfectly with that.

@@DamonCartthat’s my favourite thing I red today! You’re the first person to see it that way too - I myself just never understood the idea of worth/self worth and still don’t really, I swear I just don’t get what it’s about or what it implies, and thus..I just don’t struggle with it. And seeing how much people do struggle with it, I‘m pretty grateful that I simply never allowed this concept in my mind so it just doesn’t exist. There sure are things I really dislike about myself, a lot of habits I want to change, I‘m pretty sure there’s tons of people who would dislike me (as a lot who would not), but accounting any of that to any worth..doesn’t seem like topics that are even close to each other.

Damon, I reaaly like your videos and this one, too. A related question. How can one discover his/her main core beliefs? What route would one take to discover one's own?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 10 ай бұрын
Your core beliefs are going to be the beliefs about who you are, the beliefs that make up your identity. We call these qualities as in aspects of who you believe yourself to be. Examples are "I am an optimist. I am a pessimist. I am a failure. I am successful. I am happy. I am miserable." etc. I suggest you take something you want to accomplish and elicit your values from it. Then ask yourself if you are each value as a quality of who you are. For example, if I want to buy a house and one of the values I elicit from wanting a house is peace, then I would ask myself if I'm at peace. The answer will be yes, no, or somewhat. Now you know one of your core beliefs and to what degree you believe you are what you value or you believe you are the opposite of what you value. I've done many videos about Self-Concept and values elicitation. I go into deeper explanations in those videos about how to do this.

@@dumitriudaniela No worries. I wasn't offended. There are logical ways to do things and working with your mind is no different. For example, even though you may be more on the creative side, you still use logic when you need to get from home to the grocery store and then back. You have an objective, groceries, and you need to get them back home. You use logic. This also doesn't exclude creativity either. They work together well.

Over the past year I have identified a couple of self limiting beliefs which I'm struggling to change. Firstly, I've been single for 4 years and have dated lots of guys who string me along and then lose interest, it has led me to create this story I tell myself which is "I can't get a boyfriend if I tried"/"all men will eventually lose interest in me" and I reinforce this belief by dating/choosing people who it'll never work out with (unavailable people). The second is that my parents don't care about me. I have traced this back to things like.. being 10/11 in school and them not wanting to collect me from school when it is raining, whereas other kids parents are doing so. Conversely, I don't struggle with work/business goals or sport, for example, because my internalised beliefs about these are pretty good - I honestly believe I am good at most/all sports and that I am naturally good at business related things. I now realise that these beliefs are most of the reason I succeed at them. On the surface I know these negative beliefs are objectively not true, I have had prior boyfriends and my parents often do things to show they care, but I'm not sure how to crack these, any tips?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын
I have more than tips. I teach an entire structure for changing limiting beliefs. The most powerful and biggest belief you have is your self-concept. When you understand the structure of it, then you can transform it. Do that and your life will never be the same again. The levels of fulfillment are endless.

Natural, systemic limits of body type also need to be factored in. Deficiency endowments have different requirements than proficiency endowments. Simply, someone with less muscle to work with will.not be considering climbing mount Everest. Systemic limits can be employed as creative guidelines. Hyper nerve sensitivity can be a problem but it is also very useful for creativity, innovation, psychic development etc.
@DamonCart

There are limits of the body, but that's not what I'm referring to in this video. However, even what most would consider a limitation of the body can be surpassed like the 4 minute mile. It was once thought to be impossible until someone did it. Once that happened, several people achieved it so much so that it's no longer uncommon.

@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 ай бұрын
It seems like you keep pre-thinking obstacles before you're taking action. There are a number of NLP processes you can use, but first just take an action instead of saying to yourself that you don't know what you want and that you'll have anxiety. If you're thinking these things before you take action, you're never going to take action.

I lived a lot of years in survival mode, and while my life circumstances are now peaceful for years I’ve remained stuck in life. I know I have limiting beliefs, which brought me to your video. But this is why I get stuck over and over again. You say to identify limiting beliefs you need to identify what you want. I know this may seem ridiculous to some, but I have trouble doing that. I guess because I lived so long just trying to make it through the day, that I became disconnected with who I am and what I want out of life. Any suggestions resources or ideas on how to start this process ?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 2 жыл бұрын
I've done many videos about how to figure out what you want. You're probably putting too much focus on what you want as having to be objects, material possessions, achievements, etc. There's nothing wrong with wanting any of those things but you need to move beyond that to discovering what your core values are. Every decision you make, every behavior you do (whether consciously or not), and everything you want is driven by your values or rather the want to fulfill your values. I've done many videos on values including demonstrations of how to elicit your values. Search my name and the word values here on KZbin. Start there. The clarity will come.

Thank you very much for your explanation. I have been trying for so long to figure out why I feel guilty every time I was calling rent. (I was renting a house, all is ok with it, rent is average, and I fixed anything the tenant needed, but every month I had to deal with this huge sense of guilt. It was not too long when the tenant stop making payments, and stopped taking my calls. We are in eviction process now, but I feel I attracted that because of my feeling of guilt -even when I was doing nothing wrong- What is my unconscious believe? Is it normal to feel that way?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 2 жыл бұрын
The key here is to get in touch with the positive intent behind the guilt. That may sound strange, but there is in fact a positive intention, a value within you that is trying to be fulfilled. Unfortunately its using the strategy of guilt to fulfill it which is likely causing you to fight that feeling so you're in a deadlock, an internal conflict. Logically you know it's perfectly normal to charge rent to someone renting space from you and there's nothing wrong with that, but something in you doesn't understand this, an isolated part of you that it probably very young that needs to be grown up and integrated with the rest of you so the conflict is resolved and you can make choices and decisions from a place of wholeness and congruence.

@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын
First of all understand that this couldn't possibly be true since you're still alive and you successfully typed a comment here. Secondly, go to the positive intent of thinking such a thing. Just follow the instructions I give in the video. You don't do anything without there being some sort of value to fulfill including believing that you're designed to fail. A belief like this usually comes from being focused on what you don't want. Find out the positive intent of this. Make sure you state it in the positive; if you don't want X, what do you want instead? You'll quickly realize that this belief is really just a poor strategy to fulfill the positive intent so change it.

Same here with the wanting to be wealthy... However, I have recently realized that my true limiting belief about the subject is about feeling I am leaving people behind, and I don't like that feeling... Could this be related to abandonment issues 🤔?...As always your feedback is greatly appreciated 🙂😊
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын
It could be but not necessarily. Abandonment issues tend to have more of a feeling of being left behind rather than leaving others behind. Part of my journey has been a struggle with this same exact issue. It can be difficult but it's not worth it, in my opinion, to hold yourself back for others if they're not willing to evolve. Don't be surprised if those same people try to get in your way. It's often the people you least expect who will try to stop you. Often I don't even think they're consciously aware of what they're doing.

@@DamonCart thank you again😊. Very helpful and I do agree with your last point👍... In my case, the "leaving behind" feeling is because I feel at times that I am left behind, or I am always behind (even with goals I have set for myself)... Therefore, because I know how horrible it feels, I don't want to cause the same pain on to others😔.. Hope this makes sense..

Can you apply NLP to forget traumatic pain while still recovering from that pain?
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 4 жыл бұрын
You won't forget. You can only suppress, which is only going to make it worse. You can, however, come to a new understanding that will relieve the pain. The part of you that is hurting is still a valuable part of you with many resources. You don't want to isolate it and push it away, which is usually our response to any kind of pain. You can start the process of healing by not resisting the pain and don't dwell on it or invest in it either. Just let it be. Ask yourself, what is the positive intent or positive message the pain is trying to deliver to you.

I have been trying to start an online business for years, I do a course then start building something then leave that and go into a different strategy or type of business. This keeps repeating itself and I can’t figure out why. Somethings that I think could be the issue is that 1)my dad told me when I dropped out of my degree that I will never get anywhere without one 2) my dad worked ridiculous hours to the point that stress and other mental issues killed him 3) my mum never had a career, she worked whatever jobs were available at the time. These things are possible reasons for me not sticking at something Could it be something else? I would appreciate your help.
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын
It could be those things and it could be something else that's more unconscious and your desire to find an answer may be using those reasons as a placeholder. Regardless, whatever happened to you in the past, whatever someone told you, is irrelevant right now. Get focused on what you want and what fulfills you. If you're doing something that fulfills you, even when it's not going well, you'll still be motivated to do it.

Hi Damon, thanks for all the content you provide! I find your explanations of the NLP models really well explained in detail and easily implementable! 👍🏻 I was just wondering if you have any solutions for my issue. I've recently been working on uncovering some limiting beliefs within myself. I have the suspicion that a lot of them come from deeper than I am able to get to and was wondering how I can use NLP to get deeper into my unconscious. So I guess my question is how do you know that what comes up is really the limiting belief? Or alternatively how do you know whether you need to dig deeper? Many thanks for any information! Charlie
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын
My suggestion is that you don't focus on limiting beliefs. Rather, deal with them as you pursue what it is you want. When they persist, you go deeper. Go only as deep as you need to go to remove the limitation. Some people think they need to remove all of their limiting beliefs before they start an endeavor. This is a big mistake. Focus on what you want. Move toward it. Limiting beliefs, if you have any, will reveal themselves. Only spend as much time as necessary on them so that they don't limit you from moving forward.

When you ask me what is my interest I cannot say directly. Its like I know where I dont want to be but cant clarify where I want to be
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 ай бұрын
You've identified the problem that holds most people back. Your mind is trained on what you don't want. How are you going to get what you want if you don't know what it is and yet you're very clear about what you don't want? If you went to a department store and the clerk asks you what you want and all you tell them is what you don't want, you will be there forever. Same if you got in a taxi and the driver asks you where you want to go and you tell him every place you don't want to go. You're not going anywhere. Your unconscious gravitates to clarity and moves away from confusion and chaos so if you're only clear about what you don't want and not clear at all about what you do want, where do you think you're unconsciously gravitating toward? The good news is that you can have an amazing life spending the rest of it discovering what you want, what you like, and what makes you happy. It starts with making that choice that you're going to discover what you want even if it takes getting out of your comfort zone. If you're expectation is that you have to have it all figured out before taking action, you'll likely stay stuck forever. Decide right now that you're going to change this. You're not going to be able to figure out what you want in your head (or on paper) before you take action. Taking action is the fastest way to discover what you want. Get curious and open yourself to experience and get out there to discover what you want. It's fine to know what you don't want, but focus on what you do want. Clarity about what you do want is something you can only discover through taking action. I've done many videos about this. Watch them, but also know that watching them alone isn't going to change this. Action will.

I liked how you are testing out new editing techniques on your video. I would have left the background clips go on even for a bit longer :-). In the video you mention that limiting beliefs are what prevent us from pursuing what we want. I am having trouble identifying with clarity even what it is that I want. If I was convinced about what I wanted, I would certainly tackle the limiting beliefs with a very practical approach. Using your example: 0) Goal: I want to learn Romanian to connect better with my partner. 1) Belief: I am not good at learning languages. 2) Actual limitation: it takes 480 hours to learn a language. 3) Action: dedicate 1 hour every day for the next year and a half. In my case, many of the beliefs are manifesting as self-doubt in the goal-setting stage, e.g., is this really what I want? Should I be doing something better with my time? Will I feel satisfied if I do this? This is preventing me from committing to action plans like the one in your example. Some of these questions might have some truth to them, they are not all originating from imagined limitations. I am having trouble distinguishing between the helpful questions and the destructive ones. If you can comment on this or provide any guidance, I would appreciate it very much. Thanks.

I don't think your questions are bad. However, you can't answer them in your head. You have to test it out. Take the action. Set a time for how long you're going to try it out before you reassess. Do you now have answers to those questions? Yes, no, or need more time and information. There's nothing wrong with starting something and quitting it later if you don't enjoy it. In fact you should quit if you don't enjoy it. I fell into a deep depression trying to make my insurance business successful. I finally succeeded but then realized it would never fulfill me so I left it.

Why don't we go straight to installing positive beliefs so we don't have to go on this negative beliefs witchhunt? For example, installing "I can accomplish anything I set my mind to". Or is it too broad for the mind to have any effect on your self-concept and resulting actions ? THanks!
@DamonCart
@DamonCart 3 жыл бұрын
Why don't you? Do you believe you can accomplish anything you set your mine to? You probably do so why aren't you? Believing you can do anything you set your mind to leaves us saying "So what?". It's not only very broad and general and lacking in connection to sensory based information, it's not very motivating if you're not clear about what you want to apply this to. The problem is not just whether or not you believe that. The problem is how, when, and where do you want to use it? As soon as you apply this to something, you're likely to experience resistance. For example, I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I can become president of the United States. Is it possible? Yes. Do I want to? Not really. Next. I want to double my income. I definitely want that, but I'm not sure if I can or how I would even do it. Now you have a sense of where to start to create a solution and solve a problem. I can accomplish anything I set my mind to sounds nice and it might open your mind to possibilities, which is good, but apart from that it's not very useful.

@@genkafioofficial9653 it depends on the person. In general they must believe that their current situation is somehow better or less scary and chaotic than not being in the abusive relationship.

I don't believe that I can be self employed. I was taught I needed to get a good job.

Do you want to change that belief or are you content with it?

@DamonCart I definitely want to change it. I left a 15-year career in the medical field and becane a realtor. I constantly experience fear and tell myself and I made a bad decision and I should back to a job that I hate.

I want a job but secretly think it will never happen. I don't want to be wealthy unless I used that money to help as many people as possible. Wealth that isn't used to help others doesn't appeal to me.
