One tip for drilling sideways and using the coolant - drill a hole to the lid for a tubeless valve and slightly pressurize the tank so it'll flow better. Don't go crazy, a psi or two will get you going 😅

Nice machine, I watched another PA KZbinr (Diesel Creek) use one of these while building a 2000 lb steel workbench. It looked useful and much safer than using a drill that would kick back on you and try to break your wrist. (don't ask). Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Jen, Gus, and Turbo!! I can't wait to see you guys' 2024 adventures!

I use these all the time at work, they are great! Just remember that if your drilling on a vertical surface always have a safety rope tied off to the handle so if the power cuts out it wont drop on your foot or someone underneath you. Merry Christmas to you Jen and Gus!

Good thing! They are so much lighter these days, I’ve used them for many years. Best tool is the broach type bit, retracting centre point and aggressive mill tool for plug holes type drill. Lots of coolant. Only downside is, we have to clamp some mild steel on the stainless to drill haha.

Over 30 years ago I was a Machine design engineer for a press builder. The frames of many of the components were 3.5 inch steel Blanchard ground on both sides. In the design process we planned the location of holes needed in these frames and the machine shop used our drawings to put the holes in as specified. Of course changes were enquired once the equipment reached the assembly floor. The millwrights would use a very heavy BUX magnetic drill to add or modify holes in those instances and would always put a safety strap attached to an over head crane. Much time was saved when a precise perpendicular hole was required.

Hej! I commented before while at work , you have the bits! These are WAY cheaper than the ones we ued 20 years ago , i hate them as too heavy! Rather get my steel delivered after laser cut and all holes done!!! We dont have time to muck about with ALL the available tools , laser and water jet cutting has revolutionised fabrication plus CNC bending too.

I’m looking for an affordable table top drill press now or a 110v electric motor with a 1/2” keyed shaft! I’ve been searching the internet and they’re not cheap! My motor lost power and I thought it was the capacitor and bought a new one but I think it’s in the winding! Still searching brother! I love you workshop, lost mine in 2020 to two different hurricanes here! Took down 11 trees and all of my fences and I had to put up a makeshift fence for my three pit bulls! I’m so glad we survived but the destruction was so devastating and depressing! I haven’t been in my mancave since! I used to make hunting knives but I can’t get motivated enough to start again my friends! It’s heartbreaking! Thanks for sharing Chris, if it weren’t for you and your family, I don’t know what I would do with myself these days! My hobbies are gone now and I’m too old to do anything else! I haven’t ridden my Harley Davidson motorcycle since the hurricanes either! I’m charging the battery now and going to try hopefully tomorrow or next week! Good luck you two heroes of mine! Lots of happy energy for you guys! Tell Jen and Gus and Turbo hi for us here in Louisiana my brother!

Very nice piece . I don’t often use a drill press . But when I do it really comes in handy . I have 2 drill presses . One large one that sits on a table . One I got from my dads place after he died , it is a smaller craftsman but a nice one . None of mine have reverse like yours . My dad had a 5 gal bucket full of taps . All from probably 1/2 to 3” . I left those there for my brother . He may have sold them for scrap , who knows .

Rebuilding a plate glass furnace we had one up high , night shift , the generator/s cut for a second , so lucky my Bro=Inlaw not hurt! UNION job! Australia!
