I really enjoy your examples of I’m planning for a new SQ-7 to replace a 40 channel Soundcraft GB8. We repeat songs (all contemporary Christian style) at church 2-3 times every two years. They’re never the same set. We have one regular worship leader and two fill-in leaders (2-3 times a year). We use three other singers each service but have six singers that we rotate. Mostly they sing harmonies but any of them could be doing the lead on some of the songs. The levels change throughout songs and we need compression and other effects on all. The vocal qualities are different enough to warrant different comp/EQ. All that said to ask this… I believe I need to create a scene for each those songs that have a different leader. I also need to have different settings for those mics that switch singers each Sunday. So, am I thinking correctly that Song 1 may have an “A” and “B” scene depending on the backup singers? Or that quieter “ballads” may need a scene to switch to compared to the huge anthem songs? I can label them enough to designate which to use in the service that Sunday and have the operator switch the scene on some of the songs. I see that I could probably have shows saved on a thumb drive and load the appropriate show each Sunday morning. I can store these scenes locally, correct? I can assign a soft button to quickly switch scenes, correct? Am I overthinking this (as I usually do)? Is this all in the manual under Scenes and I just need to study it for the next few months until the project to install the new system is ready? :) I’ve been running and setting analog boards for the last 35 years and am quite amazed at what digital boards can do.

Hi Ralph, thanks for your comment! On to your questions: #1: I can store these scenes locally, correct? YES #2: I can assign a soft button to quickly switch scenes, correct? YES #3: Is this all in the manual under Scenes and I just need to study it for the next few months until the project to install the new system is ready? IT IS IN THE MANUAL, BUT YOU WILL NOT NEED MONTHS TO READ THE FEW PAGES. #4: You can save a scene per song and per lead singer. But maybe that´s too much work and the outcome will not be as consistent as one might wish. That´s mostly due to changing variables outside of your mxier: How are are singers feeling, how many people are in the audience, etc. Nevertheless it could work. After all: having a scene you don´t need is much better than not to have it and suddenly need it. For me the most important thing is that the gain is set correctly, so everybodies monitor is consistend. For FOH you can change the balance on the fly. Hope that helps a bit! Cheers André

@@AndreSchaier I went back and watched more videos on SQ-7 Shows & Scenes & Safes. I also went through the manual again, using the MixPad app and what you said about variables outside of my mixer all makes sense. I experience that every week. I’ve been programming lighting since my college days and the ideas of shows and scenes is more linear and very familiar to me. After your response to #4, I realized in my situation, that it would be best for me to focus on EQ & Comp scenes for groups of singers instead of per song (we have over 300 in our repertoire!). This would be a better use of my time as a few baseline scenes to start with could be enough. As things inevitably change, these can be modified, and new scenes copied from them, reducing the time spent getting everything “just right”. I can store individual compression & EQ on them as those things don’t vary much, if at all, from song to song. I was also getting confused about FX for specific sounds, thinking those would be necessary in scenes. But they are more ephemeral. Dry vs wet, lead vs background, repeating echo on a held note, etc. are fleeting and can easily be managed with soft keys. I need to take my time tuning FX anyway.

So does loading a show from USB also take care of your global bus configuration (how many groups, stereo auxes etc)?

Loading a scene: No. Loading a show: Yes, it does!

How big is the file to save one show? Thanks
@AndreSchaier

Hi, that depends on how many scenes you show contains. If you have one scene in your show it´s about 300KB. I have a show with 12 scenes, that is 1,7MB. An other show of mine has 32 scenes, resulting in 4,3MB. Hope that helps! Stay save
