In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzbin.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

I've done a few dozen of these boards and one thing I noticed that may impact the quality of your readings at high speeds (particularly when mounting a larger SI transducer) is turbulence. The bottom of the board should be in line with the hull. Leaving it up a little above may be OK for some transducers, but that "step up" will create turbulence - so if you line up the bottom of the board with the hull, then run a bead of silicone between the two to make it smooth - your results will be best. Also - I personally don't mind 2 holes through the board into the hull (with silicone in the holes prior to sinking screws of course) - it seems more solid compared to any adhesive. After all - it's only 2 holes and that's it forever. You can still move your transducer, upgrade it or whatever as you are screwing into the board and never again into the hull. Finally - the leading edge of the transducer should be 1/16th or so LOWER than the hull then the back tipped down ever so slightly - this seems to provide the best results for many transducers. Good video - keep up the good work.

Quick tip for ensuring level...pick two rivets on the port and starboard that are the same distance from the bottom on each side. Tape a line across the top of them...now use that as your reference for level. That combo square is assuming everything on that trailer is square. Load up cockeyed and so will your square.

Hello from Goa India. Sorry to say, that I lost my transducer after a period of 4 months glued to my fibre glass boat. I believe that due to ageing and vibration the wood left the body of the transom. The transducer would have dangled and saved, had I screwed on all the wire clip, instead of gluing them too.the wire harness got pulled into the propellor. In my opinion once bitten twice shy, I will see that I will use screws and bolts provided by hummingbird. Please note that I did not glue the previous lost transducer on seeing your video, ( I had already lost it past 4 year ago)so no ill feelings to this video uploader

Not saying the transducer shouldn't be level, but once you are in the boat the weight distribution will not be equal, especially if you fish by yourself a lot like me. When you're at the console the boat will lean slightly right. Then factor in how the weight in your boat is distributed, if the water has any ripple or even 1 foot waves and you see my point. I'm not singling your video, all the videos I see on this say to level it. Of course I'm going to level mine just out of principle, but I'm not sure just how critical this is even if you were a few degrees off level. Maybe some others can comment. Good video.

I remember crossing the line and drilling into my boat the first time. After enough drilling in enough boats, I finally got over it and don't hesitate to drill when necessary now. I would be more worried about all paint that would be torn off when removing the plate than having 2 or 3 little holes from a transducer.
@fishhunt9874
@fishhunt9874 3 жыл бұрын
To figure out where to mount the transducer take your boat out for a run. Have someone else steer the boat as you look over the transom. Look at where your transom meets the water and look for the cleanest lane. Mark the cleanest lane with a sharpie then mount your transducer there, no guessing.

Off the boat probably not. But it won’t stick to starboard. Nothing sticks to it. Best way to adhere it is to make some beveled holes in the back. So the hole is wider the deeper it goes and wedges it on.

MrErikwade - Yep. Would rather put a couple holes to hold it on. If you think you might have trouble getting the position perfect or want to upgrade a glued and screwed piece of starboard is great. Too many people are squeamish about putting holes in their boat.

I can see the transducer getting pulled out of that material when you hit an object under the water.Mine gets tilted up quite often from hitting objects and it is mounted to my boat.Then you will be looking for a way to remove that piece of stuff and getting all of that glue off before drilling holes and mounting it properly. Just my honest opinion.

5200 will not stick to starboard (HDPE). The only thing holding that on is the caulking. Nothing sticks to starboard. Best way to adhere it is either with screws or by making some beveled holes in the back. Wider the deeper they go which essentially wedges or locks it in place.

When we developed the Stern Saver product, I tested 5200 on one of our prototypes and it fell off almost immediately, and before any other adhesive we tested. And that was used on our blocks with the threaded pockets in the back, not smooth StarBoard. 5200 will not reliably hold your transducer to your hull. That's why we ended up going with the highest grade marine epoxy available instead. This is the reason our mounting system is the only one trusted by the vast majority of boat owners out there, and why it's the only one large retailers trust.
