Tepito in Mexico City - arguably the most dangerous black market in the world. At first glance, the no-go zone looks like any other market - yet the main thing you’ll find lurking down the alleyways behind it is death. It’s ruled by the “La Union” gang. The Tepito cartel deals in drugs, weapons and assassinations - anything that you can use money to buy. Enjoy all you No-Go Zoners 😉!

I remember coming here when I was about 22 years old. I'm from the US but my dad lived in that area so he wanted to show us around. At first it was fine, everything seemed cool. But once the sun starts to set you really feel the tension. We started walking towards the outskirts of Tepito and let me tell you, I have never felt so unsafe in my life. Once I saw that even my dad felt uncomfortable I got scared. Some cops stopped us ( I guess you could tell we were tourists) and told us to leave the area ASAP.

I an American and I used to live in Mexico, but not Mexico City. My Mexican friend and roommate would travel to Tepito every few weeks to obtain cheap jeans, aftershave or perfumes for his girlfriend. He also had worked in a bank within Tepito, so he knew the rules and what not to do. Once he asked me to go with him so that we could go to his parents' home in another part of the city afterwards for dinner. Upon arriving he told me to roll up the windows and lock the doors of the car. At each stop sign, we never came to a complete stop. We parked the car in a safer area and walked a few blocks to where we were going. Within seconds at the market, someone walked up to my roommate and demanded money, so my friend gave him a few coins. Not satisfied with the number of pesos, the robber grabbed my friend's necklace. No one said a word to me or even bothered me at all. After the robbery, we bought what we came to buy and left. Once we were far from Tepito, I joked that no one wanted to rob the Gringo wearing a Cruz Azul jersey-- Cruz Azul is the Mexico City's soccer team. When I asked my friend why he didn't try to stop the robbery, he said there were many people watching us at that moment. I have visited Mexico City many times since then, but I have no need to ever return to Tepito

I've been to Tepito probably 10 times, 2 of them I made vlogs. I don't think it's the no go zone this film is making it out to be. It is absolutely dangerous IF you are involved in that kind of illegal activity. But if you go to Tepito just looking to buy some knock offs during the day and stay the main streets your biggest risk is just pick pocketing. It's one of the busiest markets in the country, full of life, streetfood, dancing and a bunch of really fun bars in the street. You can buy 1.5L michaladas and drink them anywhere. I've gone with the most innocent backpacking girl and not once did they feel in danger and always have a great time. Me and my roommate would cruise through Tepito if we were bored and walking around Centro and not even think twice about it. My Pops is from Tepito, when he was 22yrs old he crossed the border to LA Pacoima, became a citizen and then when I was 10 yrs old we drove to MX DF in our lil Mini Van with my parents and 6 siblings. My pops took us to Tepito, we borrowed my uncles van with MX plates to drive to Tepito, no way would we use our van with California plates in Tepito we would not survive. My Posp said stay close and do not speak English, do not ask questions. He showed us where he grew up and lived, you can feel the tense, danger and feel unsafe. Cops are corrupted and you do not ask to use the bathroom or go into the alleys. It's very dangerous specially if you are from USA. You can tell we were not form there and it was scary, when it got dark my pops said let get out of here!!! You do not go there if you do not know anyone or if you are not from MX.

I've always wondered how these photographers/videographers have the resources to get to the bosses for interviews, but the police don't.... It just doesn't make sense. IMO, it proves that the police are 100% involved in protecting the criminals. If the videographers can get to them, the police could easily do so too, they just choose not to.

@christellenlanda11542 жыл бұрын
@@nicolasrose3064 I think you’re missing the point. And it was even mentioned that police corruption is a huge problem so they have a point in saying that the police do in fact protect these criminals.

As the other guy said, the documentaries are not produced by this channel, but I can imagine the original filmmaker just pays these guys money. Someone that kills people for money surely also gives an interview for the right price. What I additionally wonder tho is how they convinced them that they wouldn't leak their information to the police. Surely an ordinary contract saying "we wont snitch on you, we promise" wouldn't have much value for these guys, as they are lawless anyways.

I think they like that a documentary is being made about them. It makes them seem more famous and bigger than other gangs, therefore they probably enjoy it because it's all about them and how lethal they can be. i walked quickly through Tepito in 1981,knowing the risks, a white kid hippie with a camera. the hairdressers came out to wave and laugh at me. the classic whistles announced me. people looked. then it was a barren place, not market day, the tension was heavy and my walk was the old plaza and back into town. i knew it was a no go zone, and was quick. the modest ancient working class homes are now gone, but what i saw was priceless. who honors the lives of people. be respectful. be quick. in the old merced, i was stalked by a famous madman- enfuriated by my sight, i knew something was up, when everyone stopped work , smiling, watching me tracked. i almost made it to a police but escaped a beating by running circles around a truck. the shop keepers were quite amused by it all, and i would get no help. the officer came right over and saved my neck. i disappeared quickly .
