It first seems to be a recapture, a previously rescued animal with a scar from an old entanglement, but Antoine finds a piece of fishing line deep into the seal's skin. It is often hard to see from the distance and the OCN rescuers rather capture an animal twice than missing out on an entanglement. The line can easily be pulled out of her skin, and she is free to go.
Wally captured a second seal with an ugly wound on the shoulder, but there is unfortunately nothing we can do. There is no entanglement, the wound seems to have been caused by a bite from a different animal. There are no seal rehab centers in Namibia to take care of this animal, she will have to recover on her own with the help of the salt water. 🦭

@@OceanConservationNamibia You can't save the world and you can't save every seal because nature sometimes appears cruel but what you @ OCN are doing, one seal at a time (mostly - sometimes 2) is putting some right to fix the wrongs of some of our fellow mankind and for that nobody can deny your stoic heroism As bho숨결 stated we hope one day soon you will have all the resources necessary to rehab or offer sanctuary to those animals in need caused by mankind. Just a shame many of the bigger charities receive the majority of the world's donations to pay "executives" top salary instead of donating to more worthwhile causes where the money actually gets used for the real causes. Keep doing what you're doing - it won't be long before you're hitting +1m subscribers.

When I read the title of this video, I had to read the comments first, to brace myself. A big shout-out to Tony, for realizing the 1st seal, wasn't a recapture. The way Wally was talking about the 2nd seal, before unzipping the net, set my anxiety level into overdrive. What a horrible wound....omg. 😭😭😭 This mission of mercy OCN is on, is not for the faint of heart. I can barely look at these injuries on my computer screen. Prayerfully, that little pup will make it. My overwhelming gratitude, Seal Whisperers, you truly are earth angels for these innocent animals. 👏👏👏👏❤❤❤❤

We have been advised by leading seal specialists that, unless we are able to keep the animal in a sanctuary for recovery, we should avoid putting medicines on the wound. The seal goes straight in the water as soon as we release it, washing off any topical cream. Water resistant sprays may lock in bacteria. The sea water acts as a very effective wound cleaner, and the seals heal remarkably fast.

Marine biology veterinary medicine is a very specialized field where they work at aquariums or for NOAA research facilities in USA. I don't know about europe. Namibia is a very poor country. But some in Namibia would be healiys of resources going to piniped marine mammals and not people.

Wow, great work, stuff happens naturally and is understandable, if a little heart-rending. But you saved the first one, and for that you should be as proud of yourselves as we are of you all. ;)
