A good effort to explain the use of tap changer, unfortunately the way the operation of diverter is explained in this video is not in line with the available tap changers today. It is kind of mix of reactor type tap changer into in-tank diverter. Which is mostly resistance type. Unless a vacuum bottle is used for breaking circuit, every tap changer compartment, do arc. This is the reason, diverter is housed in separate tank. The divert only changed from even to odd and selector selects the tap. If interested I can explain why I am saying so that you can correct the information in this video. I have no interest stealing your show so I can support you and you explain to audience. Overall it is good effort.

Very Informative Video. I have a question, how is an On Load Tap Changer defined thorough its specifications ? For example a Power Transformer would have Technical Specification in Terms of power ratings in KVA or MVA and Voltages on High Voltage Side and Low Voltage Side as 230/13.2 KV and 24/31/37 MVA . Similarly how do you define an OLTC ? Also is it possible to use same OLTC for a Power Transformer of rating specifications 230/115 KVA and 170/238/300 MVA and another Distribution Transformer of Power Rating 230/13.2 KV and 24/31/37 MVA ? If so, would it not be extremely cost inefficient to use same OLTC for a smaller distribution transformer ? Would be optimum ratings (specifications) of OLTC for both type of Transformers mentioned above ?

These tap position are basically an arrangement of reversal switch which is used to single winding reuse once again for tapping in reversed direction...means this will save the cost of the whole winding as we used it two times for 1 to 8 taps in one direction of winding and for 9 to 17 taps of windings in reverse direction by using reversal switch for a power transformer...

@@baburamabadhran1437 off circuit tap changer helps setting up to the tap corresponding to available voltage. Once in service, the off circuit or de energized tap changer is hardly operated for the rest of transformer life. There was effort in IEEE to remove the need but not successful
