I’m working on a 2005 Pacifica for a friend. No headlights no power to the AC, defrost, or heater and no radio. The electrical schematics point to a group of ground wires behind the dashboard. I will be tackling this this weekend wish me luck. Your video has inspired me.

I can't thank you enough for this video. My niece drove to Myrtle Beach from Ohio in her 07 Pacifica and arrived with the drivers side low beam out. The bulb checked out OK and there was power to the socket. Later she lost power to nearly everything including the radiator fan and overheated the day she was to return to Ohio. Took it to a shop, AAA rated none the less, that couldn't find anything wrong. The car wouldn't start when she went to pick it up so they blamed the computer and offered to tow it to a Chrysler dealer. Long story short thanks to your video I went strait to the G3 connector and the wires came off in my hand. I stripped em back and reattached them to the ring and we're back in business! Oh by the way that shop tried to sell her motor mounts, lower control arms, tie rods and a brake job (she had one two weeks ago). I'm surprised they didn't tell her she needed a new flux capacitor. Anyway your video saved the day for her. Two thumbs up!

I worked as a tow contractor for AAA for years. Its sad but AAA approved isnt what it used to be.The whole AAA system is corrupt these days and is all about kickbacks.I could go on for hours about the shady crap that goes on.But to keep it short its all about the money. The battery program is forced on customers and they're complete trash,I wouldn't put one in my car and it was free. The same goes for the trash Chinese auto glass they're pushing these days. Its such poor quality I've seem where it takes a few windshields to find one good enough to install.God only knows how it'll do in a rollover with a car that the glass is part of the integral structure and crumple zone etc. Then there's the poor guys who aren't equipped or trained to do the job and so on.But by using subcontractors its never AAA's fault and that's how AAA escape responsibility.Speaking of subs, take a look around the net and google how AAA treats their contractors.I guarantee you'll be shocked. Not only do they pay less than 25$ to the company to tow your second most valuable purchase. The base rate is 18.75 for a 3 mile tow.Not only has it not gone up in close to thirty years, they managed to lower it by implementing a impossible to attain service rating that is based on unfair ratings. That would bump you to 24.35$ You might think thats not so bad for a hours work. But out of that $25 a company has to pay for a $80-$125 thousand dollar truck, insure it,maintain and fuel it at 8-10mpg and so on..........you also need to pay a qualified employee who's not going to destroy or damage a car. It's awful but AAA honestly doesnt care if your car gets damaged.Because they simply take the claims from the companies pockets.........So yeah when AAA tries to send you to a AAA approved garage the sad truth is in most cases its so the company can make up the money lost elsewhere.

A few years back I took my car to the local AAA approved shop. $450- estimate & they wanted to keep my car because they called it unsafe. No, you're not keeping my car! Another local shop, after driving another 100 or so miles... $250- & they fixed a couple of little things that were not in the AAA recommended shop. Sadly for me, that man is now retired.

Once again a South Main Auto video helped me to fix a repeat problem, you da man! Friend of mine kept taking her 2008 Corolla for no driver side low beam,(3x). They replaced the bulb 2x and the whole light assembly and still not fixed. I pulled the battery out so I could give the connector and the wires a “Eric check wiggle”. Confirmed Connector was corroded from battery acid. Spliced in a new connector, heat shrunk and taped and applied dielectric grease where needed. Cleaned off the battery terminals and under neath the tray was the corroded ground terminals, so probably other issues waiting to happen. Thank you

Thanks Eric. I took out the battery tray, to get my meat hooks down to the ground studs. took everything apart, cleaned it up. found one heavy gauge wire broken off. I have a hunch, that was my transmission problem. It was stuck in "learn" mode, when I first got it. I cured it, 2 years ago with a direct connect ground to the engine block. Anyhow, back to the light. Reassembled everything, and still had the headlight out. Ran a new ground wire, off of the low beam ground, and fixed the problem. Thanks for explanation. Saved me from wiring in an extra relay, from the right light. I think Chrysler just did a bad job of designing these cars. I've never had a car with this many ground/wiring problems. I'm still chasing an intermittant battery draw. Maybe that's the disentegrating engine carriage. 🤔

You're a lifesaver. Same thing happened on my 2010 Avenger today. Though passenger low beam was defunct. 12v at the socket but no light. Every single forum post I looked at suggested a new TIPM, but figured since I had voltage, it may have been a ground issue. Hoping to track it down tomorrow, or at the very least, splice a new one like you said. Your videos are simply so helpful for the every day wrencher. Thank you!

Really appreciated this video. I have exactly the same problem with my 2002 Buick Regal GS, no left side low beam, all other lights on the left side worked. 1st I took the right side housing and plugged into the left side to see if it was the housing wires. The right side worked as intended, so I knew it was not the housing wires. Now that I see this, I will start checking where that low beam is supposed to be grounded. Thank you so much.

Every time I watch one of your videos I thank God that I live in Phoenix, AZ. I have a 15 year old Grand Prix with 238,000 miles that has ZERO rust on it. I've painted it three times since the UV eats off the paint and it could use a new headliner but mechanically it's perfect and the bolts that hold it together are still shiny. It seems that 80% of the problems you're solving are related to corrosion. If you move out here your life would certainly get easier.

SATAMAN Schmidt Got an extra room for 5? Lol Sure would be nice to get away from this salt but it sure has made a good living for me and my family. I always wondered what you guys in good weather even fixed. Do cars even break haha?
@satamanschmidt34289 жыл бұрын
South Main Auto Repair I can handle two but five would be a little much. Actually, cars do break here but normally it's mechanical wear out. I've often thought that a good business would be sending engines and transmissions out here from there and bodies from here out there. 200,000 miles on a car is very common here. Getting a new engine in your car is quite common. Car re-painting shops (sort of high end Maaco's) make money and interior shops are always busy. Major overhauls which are much less common back East, (I'm originally from Pittsburgh) are normal here. Transmission shops are busy. Back East your car doesn't have a floor or a trunk in it by the time your engine and transmission give out so you're not too inclined to buy a motor and transmission for a Fred Flintstone mobile. With a perfect body, as most cars out here have, this makes a lot more sense.

Years ago, I made some huge mistakes on a vehicle with both low beams inop. First mistake, assumed there was an issue with common wiring, ground or blown fuse. So I started tearing a bunch of stuff apart to access the fuses and wiring test points and went to and from entire circuits testing, even went to plugs and tested bulb wiring, leaving bulbs connected and in assembly. Checked entire circuit both headlights. 2nd biggest mistake was missing an important step: take bulb out and look at it. First one I pulled out, 8 hours later after getting every point accessed and tested, pulled bulb out, low beam filament broken. Replaced and it lit, went to 2nd bulb and same thing. Got paid 15 minutes diagnostic time and 9 minutes for bulb replacement. Wasted ton of time unpaid for 2 blown out bulbs. Another thing I messed up on was keep testing instead of listening to the meter. Would have saved a ton of time to see at bulb connector battery voltage drop test under load and it eliminated any more testing and only thing it could be was the component faulty. But I started at fuses, then positive side to bulb, then ground side. Listen to what the testing tool is telling you instead of assuming or going into a problem thinking only one thing it can be even though test proves otherwise. I went in looking for where the wiring was corroded or broken and missed it, even after seeing battery voltage going in and none coming out. Could have just done voltage drop across the 2 wires and saved 8 hours time and a ton of embarrassment.

Hey Eric, what is your info source for wiring diagrams? I use AllData, but sometimes it's easier to go on the free BBBIndustries website. Looking forward to the ABS diagnosis! And yeah huskies love this winter weather. My parents up in Ithaca have a 15-year old mix of husky and shar-pei...she likes taking you for walks in sub-zero temps while you freeze your butt off haha

I use AllData as well and they sure aren't interactive like the ones Eric is using.

motoYam82 I use Mitchell On Demand or as they call it now ProDemand. Sheba runs around out side when we get home. We live way out in the country and I have seen that dog out there 10 below zero just sitting in the yard looking around. Sometimes curls up and just sleeps out there. Sure does not mind the cold and snow. Yeah I hope it comes back to check out the ABS. I have all ready diaged it but will do a video if it comes back.

One of my relations has a husky. There the nearest thing to a wolf that I have seen. There has been a few instances here in Ireland where these dogs have attacked young children and killed them.To me,they are an outdoor dog and not one for inside a house like a chiwowa.

Wow that is crazy holy cow. We have a few dogs and they have grown up around our children since they were puppies so they love the kids a lot and are both very calm. We live out in the country so they spend a lot of time running out side and are inside a lot too. They need to get out and run to loose some energy and stay in shape I think. A dog that is penned up inside gets crazy and needs to run. They are just like little kids and right full of energy.

Sheba has come to work with us as well as our other dog since they were puppies to socialize them with all sorts of people to keep them from being barky or snippy at people. Makes them calm and social but also makes them lousy guard dogs haha, but then again we don't need a guard dog :)

Trying to replace the light bulbs, but one of the screws (on the right side) just keep spinning around and i can;t take the case off. how do you fix the spinning screw. The other way to get to the light bulb would be to remove the battery and the fuse box, but again i don;t know how to remove the fuse box. can you please help? Thank you

I think I have the same thing going on with mt 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 right low beam. I think someone has previously replaced the socket.

My BMW E36 drivers side high beam is not working Bulb is fine. When i move the wires around socket the high beam flashes, if i bend the wire there in specific angle, the light goes on and out. The wires are wrapped in factory "tape" or something. What should i do? Bend only specific points on the bunch of wires or just disconnect the bulb and with test light check the power and ground to figure out which is bad? And then continue from there? I dont want to remove that "tape" around wires without reason. Or i should suspect just the connector itself? Its weird that wire can go just bad without actual physical damage. That makes me wonder how that can be and why it happened. Corrosion? Its a 1996 BMW so its possible.

Did you just use standard rosin core solder with the butane torch? I'm curious. Great vids.

My dome light stopped working, and I found surface corrosion under the ground terminal. The Voltage found another path of least resistance at the corrosion spot. Electricity is lazy - much like we are at times.
