Jade PG This tutorial is all well and good but it's completely hopeless for those of us that build free hand and not with the ready built base's. Try building free hand then try connecting to the power grid it's really annoying! Like for instance trying to electrify the walls so you can build lights to light your base doesn't work.

Fire of Damocles dude I’ve honestly been looking online trying to figure out how to do this for hours. I’m glad I came across your comment and now know that it can’t be done. I may have wasted two hours of my life trying to figure it out, but without your comment who knows how many more countless hours I would have spent trying to fix lighting in my base🤦🏽‍♂️ that’s really irritating though. I have a massive wooden base that I’ve put like 55+ hours into and now nothing in works and it’s all just for nothing. That’s so frustrating. Thanks for the comment though man. Appreciate it👍🏽

Fire of Damocles I figured it out now man. All I did was place solar panels on top of my roof. Ran a wire from solar panels to a battery inside my wooden base, then connected all of my lights from the battery throughout my base. It actually takes a LOT less power to operate a wooden base than it does the pre-built structures. You just have to make sure the first circuit that you go to from the battery is a switch or proximity then connect the lights after that all in one circuit. It’s hard to explain but it’s doable man.

you don't have to run the wires from the generator directly to the battery outside. The corners of the structures have connecting points on the outside. Just run the wire from the batteries to an outside corner. No wires clipping through walls. Same with powering the doors. run line on outside from corner to bottom of door.

Hey thanks for the tutorial, Jade. I was getting to be frustrated with the sliding doors, because the weren't reacting to my proximity per default (even when powered from the grid), so i had to build in the Proximity switch. But now, after implementing the proximity switch into the door logic circuit, it was doing exactly the opposite of what the doors were supposed to be doing. So by integrating the Power inverter into that logic circuit, you actually leave the door mechanism powerless by entering the Proximity switch trigger area, there by opening the door. As soon as you are away from the trigger area, the Inverter provides the power (triggered by the toggle of the signal or current from the Proximity switch) to the door, there by closing it again. Or in short: If you wanna fix the door mechanism, you have to break it. (in a sense) Highly interesting...

@@Jade-PG I'm still sort of going through the tutorial and I was at the stage where I visit the anomaly, after the update I get trapped inside of the anomaly cuz my game crashes by either getting loaded into a lobby with people, or it crashes as soon as my ship flies out into space. I finally figure out a different way to get out of there and go back to my base which I was in the middle of constructing, and all my equipment is forced to shut down because of the new power generating system that was never a factor before. I can't access any of my storage containers and I can't use my warp gate. I'm forced to pause my base construction and I spend the time to figure out the generator thing, which eats up resources and has no "off" button, and my containers STILL can't function correctly even when powered, because apparently odd number containers are bugged. People tell me just delete the container and rebuild it, but I can't even do that because after deleting, the containers won't rebuild on my wooden floor panels, only on natural ground. I've got ugly wires running through my base and things won't even work properly, and every minute I've got a big tool tip pop up window reminding me to "BUILD THAT UPGRADE MODULE BUILD THAT UPGRADE MODULE BUILD THAT UPGRADE MODULE HURRY UP". What a fun experience as a beginner....

In all honesty I’m a personal fan of the power system. The game has been able to expand at let players build complex circuits. While it isn’t minecraft, it’s the best I could ever come up with. You don’t need wires running through rooms since there are outlets outside of most structures that you can just plug, for example, doors into. I now have a new principe I have to think of when it comes to base building and it makes more sense and I like the layers. And you can keep wires almost exclusively not running everywhere and still have things like automatic doorways. Not to mention being able to create music and light displays, perhaps challenge arenas, and other clever things. I don’t really understand everyone else, I love the new power change.

Just cuz u can't understand other people's problem with it doesn't mean it hasn't got problems. Powering the base is an awesome addition and a super cool idea. It's super flawed in implementation though. I literally have a huge grid leading back to my base with batteries charged to 100%. All my wires are blue but the ONE wire that connects to the base is red. Base power got problems and needs to be fixed, upgraded, or simplified. ESPECIALLY in the case of doors. We all know about the stupid Holo doors but some of us wanna make something with nice aesthetics. Or a consistent design. This whole system botches that very idea for a lot of people. It's not user friendly if people NEED KZbin tutorials and nearly EVERY ONE of the comments is talking about how they struggle with it.

Is it not possible to add power to the basic structures wood/metal/concrete? Cant power up my first aid/hazard protection that is mounted on a concrete wall. My whole base is basic concrete. Figured im gonna try to unlock the more advanced structures in the anomaly and see if i can get power that way!

Build a foundation you can run the wires underneath your buildings or whatever you want.

Is there a limit of how many solar panels and batteries you can connect together? I have a cluster of 10 batteries and 15 panels but some won’t connect to wires

idk. I do like the idea of having to power the bases, however I also was able to suspend my disbelieve in the old base building game. I didn't need to see exactly how it was being powered, just that "well in an age of instant travel and warp speed, im sure there is a way they are powering the base. All good."

You don’t have to connect everything directly to power supply. Just complete the circuit from closest thing connected to power.

Mate to hide wiring each building piece has a cable already pre wrapped around with a place to connect to them, Its usually around the base of the building structure just in case you are un aware of this.

Seriously? Wires running through rooms? Wow. You know, I can dig the concept of powering the base. But, this idea is utterly preposterous. Bloody wires running through shit. It feels and looks... primitive. The whole concept needs a serious rethink. It's sloppy. Use the power productively. Like, give us something to build, like a mini monorail that can automatically transport shit from mining and production sites. This could allow you to build a network that extends "beyond" the base. Ironic.

@xVicious Knightx True. And the real world is a mess. My PC alone is a maze of wires. It looks sloppy and I wish we had a way to power our stuff without wires. This is a sci-fi game set in space, you would expect something more advanced or practical. Actually, Tesla invented wireless energy transfer a ton of years ago and you're starting to see mobiles we can power wirelessly. A variation on this concept would have been a better idea. Instead of wires, you have a transmitter of energy and a receiver by your base that covers an area you could see through your visor.

I cannot agree more!! Its silly. Stupid design and BS. Its just annoys me so much . Generators dont last long. Plus I will not bother pluging hundreds of lights with wires and wires are running across room! Stupidest idea I saw in game. You would say with all that space traveling across galaxies there is some inbuild technology powering the bases, but obviously no - we need to run wires like idiots.

I wish they made something that you just put in your base and it would power everything without all the crappy wires like what happens when you put down stuff in your freighter, pull it out of your inventory put it down anywhere and it works without batteries wires and solar crap

Looks like I’m a bit late to the game. As most of these comments are posted 1+ years ago. But, to bring exposed wires to a minimum, I’ve been either mining a subterranean level under my base for generators and running my wires straight through the bedrock. For solar panels, I’ll keep them at a lower elevation from where my base sits and run those wires the same way. Also, embedding them inside walls when I can get away with it...almost zero exposed wires in my current build.

They really should just let a wire connected to a room power everything in it. The more items requiring power in said room the more power it draws Edit: also maybe items that radiate power to nearby items within it's radius

You know you can place wire holders in the air by using the wire after you drag the wire to any place to make the wire bend or turn so you can hide the wires easily. Everyone who says HG needs to fix wiring does not know that there is a system in place to hide the wires for people that learn the system. But this game is not a simulation and it does need simplification for everyone since this game is not space engineers.
