I would think that more LSA manufacturers targeting flight schools, would offer optional rams horn yokes or dual side sticks. If center stick, something with a "sportier", more ergonomically friendly stick control handle. Nice video and aircraft none the less.

Bobby, the Rotax 912 ULS has a gear reduction of 2.47:1... Engine RPM at Cruise is usually around 5100 rpm where Peak Torque and Horsepower curves intersect. Nice stuff. The early Rotax issues revolved around the 2 Stroke motors, NOT the 912 series.... The 4 Stroke Rotax has been a Bullet Proof engine for years.
@mr.ginnationfunlifestyle3891
@mr.ginnationfunlifestyle3891 4 жыл бұрын
Fred Weaver it depends on the aircraft and propeller, cruise between 4.800 and 5.100 rpm I would say. The best way to operate the 912 is regular fuel.
@fabiena1787

Your comment about curves intersecting is really strange, since the curves don’t use the same units... And their scales are set to fit the same diagram, basically. Power is just the torque multiplied by the rotation speed, so...

Sometimes KZbin gets things correct when it recommends videos. I’ve been looking at getting an LSA. I’m currently a LS student pilot, (flying the Remos GX) with only the two XC flights left to do before check ride. With a 14yr old son wanting to start learning how to fly next year, going the LSA route will save me thousands of dollars in training/plane rental, as you can do all your ratings in one. I have my eyes on a SportCruiser and the Bristell. This Viper looks really similar. Good looking airplane. I’m for sure going to look into these a bit more. Thanks for the video.

Flying Doodles SportCruiser is $25ph operating cost. I’m sure this Viper is right in that range as well. And you heard how much less maintenance is with the Rotax. Just makes more financial sense with two students in the family. You can do all your ratings in a LSA as well, except ME, obviously. LOL. Once you own one it’s just the $60ph for an instructor. So almost half the price of renting 172 with a CFI. Times that by 2 and the savings are immense. Again, thanks for the video. Good looking airplane.

Greg, I remember from a few years ago that there was a limitation on sport pilots using a driver’s license to certify health. You could not have failed your last flight medical exam. I would not assume that I am correct so check it out if you haven’t looked into this already. Also always remove the parachute pin before flight! When it is time to use this life saver you do not want to have anything slowing you down from deploying the chute.

LSA was suppose to be lower cost $100k? Cessna 150 in the 1960s-1970s was around 10k avg new car in 1970's was $3500 today avg car is 25k so LSA should be around 50-75k. The problem is not enough sold cessna sold 1000's of 150's and 172's.
@eagleinternationalaircraft9053
@eagleinternationalaircraft9053 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, the Viper has many advantages compared to the Cessna(152,172), for example,the fuel consumption of the Viper (4.5 gallons per hour) is lower than that of the Cessna (7-8 gallons per hour). The Viper comes with a ballistic parachute, which Cessna does not posses. Overall, the Viper is a lot more modern and advanced airplane and it is equipped with modern avionics and the pricing reflects that. Viper is more affordable than most other LSA brands in the same configuration. For more information, feel free to visit our website eagleaircrafts.com.

Seems like a nice plane but the speed limit holds back the 600kg category. We need about twice the speed. Close to 400km/h which the weight class would readily be capable of. 400 would mean we can compete and beat the airliners on medium distance trips. Then it's suddenly a very practical traveller, not just a retirement stroller or colonial adventurer.

I'm just going to throw this out..... instead of 150K, you COULD spend 25K and buy a decent Cessna 172 from the early 60's.... similar fuel burn (those old C172's burn 6.5-7 GPH of autofuel), cheaper insurance, cheap to maintain, similar speed, and, it will carry 3 people easily. For 25K.... hell, maybe BUY SIX of them old birds instead of ONE Viper ?

I know the rules, I am diabetic and know the process very well. If a person is denied a medical, they may then appeal that decision, they are barred from flying anything until a decision is made. If a special issuance is denied, then that candidate cannot fly light sport with a failed or denied medical or special issuance. Once a medical or special issuance is denied, they cannot and will not be allowed to fly anything. They can continue to try to get medical by resubmitting paperwork. I have never had a medical before, so I qualify for light sport. I was specifically told aopa and qualified instructors that if I was not confident about getting the medical, then I had better not apply. Sport Pilot has just about been the kiss of death to entry level light aircraft. You can't get training because no one wants to pay 100K for a training aircraft with a limited training base. So, many Sport Pilot trainers are WW II vintage hand prop trainers. I can go to my local airport for a Private ticket. The closest Sport Pilot training is at least 150 miles and for a good full time structured program, probably 350 miles.. Part 103 aircraft (vehicles) are making a comeback, but again, it is difficult to get training because you have to have a Sport Pilot approved aircraft (min 40K plus outrageous insurance). Twenty hours minimum training sounds good, but most require a good bit more. Younger people can usually pass a medical so instructors urge them to get a ppl. Thanks for showing the range of aircraft Bobby. It's not your fault the FAA turns anything simple into simply impossible.

@@jimbiller9682 yeah, it opens backwards and it latches on each side, you can see it in the video. Glad that there are two latches, but boy, if you forget it could go bad. @eagleinternationalaircraft9053

There are multiple points at which you are reminded to secure the canopy. First is following the checklist and second is when you turn on the screens it will remind you to secure the canopy. Hi Mark, the actual empty weight varies from model to model, depending on the configuration of the engine, avionics and interior, but usually it is around 800 lb.

@mattbrown3699
@mattbrown3699 5 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a big deal. Medical is so you don't put your passengers at risk and with light sport you can't really carry many. Also anyone getting in this plane should recognize it's a little more dangerous than a 747. That said it isn't that much more work to get your ppl so why the heck not?

I personally feel OK about it for the most part. I got my medical yanked for 'disruptive sleep patterns' not associated with apnea. I was once prescribed Ambien, apparently that caused the FAA to yank my ticket. Most pilots are of sound mind enough to know whether they're good to fly or not. I sure wish I could fly, this may be my answer.

I think that statement " no medical needed" needs to be clarified. If you have never been denied a medical, then no medical is required. If you have lost a medical there are some other requirements.

If I were going to purchase a 2-place, it would be a pre-owned, sleek, modern in design, roomy and faster LSA (this Viper, Vashon Ranger, or CTLS), but without the Rotax power-plant. Would much rather have a Continental or any other lower operating r.p.m., easier to check the oil level power-plant. A possible alternative would be a 2-place, kit plane, like the RV-12/14 or Sonex Waiex B Tricycle gear. Kudos to Viper for keeping price reasonable.👍 "Faster": in most cases, faster than a P-140, C-150, B-Skipper, P-Tomahawk, etc.

David David The decibel level is actually less than the 180 HP Titan. They are whisper quiet at a 1,900 RPM idle and at full tilt on takeoff from the outside you’ll hardly know they are there. Checking the oil level is actually really easy because once you’ve done it, you won’t have to for at least another week! They just don’t consume oil. The 912 ULS is light years ahead of the O-200D in my opinion and is a much better choice in an LSA. But that’s the beauty of the choices we have now! There is something for everybody.

I'm not a big fan of Rotax. HOWEVER, it should be noted that sometime in the year 2014, they sold the 50,000th Rotax 912 engine.... that's a LOT of engines compared to ANY other piston manufacturer. While they are widely accepted, and they seem to have resolved their reliability issues all sorted out (horror stories from the 1980's, when they first released the 912 series are bad memories that refuse to die) .... they are quite expensive, especially if you want one with the modern technologies like fuel injection. I guess nothing is free... Compare a 912 vs. a factory new continental 0-200.... price is similar, but the O-200 is heavier. I'd still take the O-200 ANY day (if the plane can handle the extra 25-30 lbs under the hood).

we have something similar.... similar.... but different. Look into Cat 4 medical (with Transport Canada) and what all you can do with that.
