Interesting to see what Cambodia looks like now. Last time I was there was 1991, just as the Vietnamese army were leaving. There were no foreigners there then apart from NGOs. I phoned home to the UK from the central post office in Phnom Penh which was the only place you could make an international call. The call went via satellite, downlinked in Moscow. The Khmer Rouge had long since destroyed all international communications & the Vietnamese had installed only this single Russian supplied comms link.

OK, subscribing. I agree with a poster here, That Vientiane would be the best place to cross into Laos, if possible. All this carnet business varies from country to country and border crossing to border crossing. It may involve three day hotel stays and hiring agents, so money comes in handy. We drove from Switzerland to Singapore 60 years ago and it was much easier then, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran etc.

What a fantastic journey! 😎 Can you tell us about your riding gear? It's very hot over there so interested in your thoughts on riding gear vs heat. Thanks 🙏🏼
@wehatethecold3 ай бұрын
I just bought a high airflow jacket from Kominee in Thailand at a motorbike shop. Right now it's pretty great when there's wind, but if you're stuck in traffic or at slower speeds there's no escape and the jacket is still hotter than wearing nothing, but eh... if you crash you don't want all your skin painting the road so I think it's worth it. I also just got some cheap riding jeans (Manta is the brand). They're excruciatingly hot, but they are very good imo. Sit your leg on the exhaust and you won't feel a thing coming through! Sit a lighter to them, and they don't burn for a while. Would highly recommend full gear man, it's too damn dangerous for t-shirt and shorts. I've done that before, but I now realize how stupid it was. Been in a roughly 50/60kph crash in them slipping on some gravel into a wooden fence (maybe 40kph on impact), and the gear definitely saved me a lot more damage than what happened. Completely fine, just a little bruising.

It's nicely paced and the storytelling great. One comment though, maybe you can get a hold of a pop filter or a windscreen to reduce the 'plosives' in your narration.

Surprisingly good. You have "C90adventure" spirit and charisma. I wish you the best of luck and i'm looking fwd to the next episode. I was very very healthy before i spent 6 months driving around India. It took just 3 weeks of breathing exhaust fumes from Indian lorries to put me in hospital with a massive asma (spelchek) attack. Please don't take the main roads in India. The lorries churn out black smoke and thats all you breathe in all day. I hope you will read this and later when you drive there and smell the stink, you might remember this message and turn off to take the lesser roads. More uncomfortable but your health is the best thing you can have. Keep going, i'll keep watching..

Ah mate, I felt the wallet loss as I lost many things over the years driving though never a wallet. That was devastating, but so glad you found some kind souls. Karma never fails and they will receive blessings for sure. Idk how long into your trip you are, but I lived 15 years in Asia and drove enough around to know you never ever wear your wallet in your pocket while driving. Always get a small cross body bag with a zip, don't have to be a big bag just enough for wallet, phone, and keys. I bought one for my husband too, think it was at h&m for 8 usd (but you can find it even cheaper at markets). He's been using it for years whether he drives or gets a grab, never gets on a bike without it. Too many things that can go wrong especially on long trips so please invest in one. Looking forward to following the rest of your trip. 🤗🙏

I do not understand what you said at 1:20 "Thailand does not issue carne to passengers, or did you say passages?" Carne, meat? You can buy a motorbike in Thailand, you can get papers cross borders with the bike. What is the problem?
@wehatethecold4 ай бұрын
No idea how to say it properly. “Carnet de passage”
@bobjuniel86834 ай бұрын
@@wehatethecold Thank you for the Information about Carnet De Passage. I'm Australian, live in Thailand and plan to visit Laos and Cambodia again. We have Honda ADV-150s, but we were told we cannot ride across the friendship bridge to Vientiane. I'm not sure we can survive riding on the right side of the road. We'll check it out. Enjoy the places and the people, do not race to get to London, life's all about the journey.
