Doors can always be a pain once the hinges start to wear. Looks like the fix you found helped give them a little more life.

yeah, they shut much better now.

Thanks for the idea. I just replaced a striker yesterday with an aftermarket Meyle, made in Taiwan and improperly machined countersinks in mounting holes. I didn’t throw out old one hoping that one day someone would make new plastic insides and they did! Oh and BTW, paint your car!

I may paint it one day.

@@mjmcomputers Great video. I learned a lot. Now I need to fix the rear door that I have to slam VERY hard to latch.

I know this is little unrelated, but I discovered that my car door would latch, but not shut upon slamming the door, it would only close fully when you would push it in all the way. The solution I discovered was that the door latch was gummed up, so I sprayed it with pb blaster and it worked good as new, thought that might help someone.

What is the name of the actual piece you bought? The link no longer works.

The seller listed them as locking eye repair kits. I found them on the sellers actual website and placed another link in the description.

Great video. Do you have ant tips on loosening bolts like yours except that rather than requiring an Allen key, they require a Phillips head Screw driver? I haven't tried yet because I am afraid of rounding out the bolts. The challenge is that they require both inward pressure and rotation.
@mjmcomputers3 жыл бұрын
An impact driver works well on these.

@mjmcomputers6 жыл бұрын
actually I thought I had read awhile back that they were not captured. Pretty sure they actually are now but not going to test that out. lol

You need to lube the hinges and latching mechanism, and make sure the catches are aligned. Those pieces only cushion the centering pin.
@mjmcomputers5 жыл бұрын
It's not just a cushion, it's what trips the latch to catch.

Would rather have a car door shutting smoothly than to slam it Everytime. Slamming doors are annoying especially when others slam the door.
