Back in the day, K-pop companies debuted idols who were able to SING LIVE very well. Besides the dancing and the looks, being able to sing was one of the three elements that mattered. These days, K-pop companies debut idols, some of whom are even underage, to make a profit and they throw those kinds who have zero to no experience into the public eye. The K-pop industry is geared towards hyperproduction, and the fans are getting so many mediocre songs, idols who aren't able to sing one song live, and so many other things. Today idols are dancers who can sing in the studio.

@@tzuyu9283 That is totally okay because they are humans too, the idols can also have bad days. That's totally understandable. I was speaking in general. The last few years, the idols that have been debuting are sounding so bad live, with exceptions of course. Can barely sing one song live, and don't even get me started on their encore performances. Like I said, nowadays the agencies are debuting dancers not singers. If you want to be an idol you need to sound and sing decent, at least stay in tune. What we see these days are minors who are dancing well with very bad and undeveloped vocals.

You're really telling me there was not at least 2 to 3 good songs that could have been released? I know of several young and talented singers who are independent, but are auditioning not only on the West, but for Korean labels as well. Take *C.GEANE* (Check out her song *Wild Flower*) She can sing, rap, writes everything herself, but if she joined a Korean label she'd have to go on a starvation diet, get skin bleaching, and conform.. OR MAYBE she would somehow get lucky and they would just accept her as she is! (I know long shot, but it's still worth putting it out into the universe.)

the notion that 'they don't need to know how to sing well' is unbelievably dumb to me, most of their job revolves around producing music. if they don't write lyrics or produce the song they should be able to sing or rap as those are the things that go into making a song. you can be strong in another position and have a relatively weak vocal ability in your group but you should still be able to sing or rap to a degree. you can sound good in the studio but if you can't even get close to that live you shouldnt be singing that bit. along with the fact that some companies (cough cough hybe) are giving groups choreos that would greatly hinder the ability of vocalists strong or weak.

I think most people feel this way, but your last point is the most important. Sure, they could use some vocal lessons, but those won't necessarily translate into better live vocals because you CANNOT have proper breath support while doing intense choreography. Being able to breathe is the basis of singing. You can't remain stable while moving your torso, spining or jumping because you quickly run out of breath to even hold a note. It's literally counterproductive

there are actually many idols who CAN'T sing properly because nowadays image and visuals are more important. If you consider EVERY SINGLE idol can perfectly sing live, then you have really low standards. Also, keep in mind that many groups have positions, and not everyone fits the vocalist role. Auto tune can be used in an artistic way but when you use it constantly, like Source does with Le sserafim and Bighit with TxT, to me at least, it felt like they just did it bc they can't actually sing well so they HAVE TO use auto tune, Bighit convinced me TxT couldn't sing bc they, in my opinion at least, over use auto tune especially on Beomgyu's voice, but they're very good

Hybe's new groups are just money makers that will disband after their contracts end and new will come. By that time some of them will go on hiatus before the disbandment and this is how it works. The same untalented idols will be millionaires because their music is trending in TikTok and the cycle will repeat. In 4th and 5th gen I find myself stanning groups with good vocals or raps or both - Aespa, Baemon, Ateez, Stray Kids. I believe that everything depends on person's preferences and if we don't like untalented groups like Hybe's ggs, then we should not listen to their trash and everyone is happy😅

ONF also have good vocal skills!! But I’d argue that both A.C.E and ONF are 3rd gen idols. Yes they debuted in 2017, that’s why they’re late 3rd gen, but they just fit more in that category in sound, concept and overall vibe. Both of these groups also debuted before The Boyz (who debuted in December 2017) who could be considered one of the latest 3rd gen groups (or in fact the last 3rd gen group), as 4th gen generally started in 2018 (so group like Stray Kids is already 4th gen, this also shows in the type of music those groups make, I guess).

I saw SKZ live in Fort Worth Texas. It was night 2 that I attended. I thought the vocals were rough and I no longer follow the group. I will say that Changbin and Han were incredible though. They were brilliant. Felix and Hyunjin were fun to watch from a choreo perspective and the vocals they had were ok. good energy. Bangchan was ok. I felt like he kind of pulled back to let others shine. The other 3 members though…it felt like a rough night. For what I paid for those tickets, I can have an opinion on what I paid for and I won’t be disrespectful toward anyone in the group, but I would never buy another product with their name on it again.

LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!!! it's been so hard for me to get into the vast majority of the 4th gen groups and even a lot of the 3rd gen groups because of this. the whole point is they are MUSICIAL ARTISTS, not a PERFORMANCE GROUP, not an ACTING/MODDELING/INFLUENCER GROUP, a music group! the whole point is baseline everyone has to be able to sing in some way, shape, or form. if I can sing better than some of the members, than that's an issue. the acting, modeling, influencer, etc. stuff is all supposed to be the stuff they do on the SIDE. I know it helps bring in money, sponsorships, and recognition, but if that is ALL that members bring to the table and they can't sing well? then they're not meant to be an idol. that's an actor/influencer. dancing & rapping is important too, but ALL of the members have to have a good singing base, otherwise it doesn't make any sense. not to mention how short/tiktok focused songs are these days, we can barely get decent bridges & choreos that aren't challenge based.

As someone who grew up with K-pop, I've known idols from 2nd and 3rd through their variety shows that showcase their vocals, iconic immortal songs, fantastic duo, live radio visits, etc. The 2nd and 3rd really did a great job of popularizing K-pop trends and even gained their recognition as singers because there is some perception in Korea where actors and real singers often gain more respect than idols. And seeing the current trend, it is kind of sad to see the bad perception about idols is back again because the quality somehow decreases a lot.

For me the problem with this mess (of Lesserafim) is, that I know that for example Chaewon and Yunjin can sing but somehow since they are in hybe their vocals weren’t as good as they were. Also for Sakura,Kazuha and somehow Eunchae I think that the songs in Lesserafim are too high pitched

LSFM songs aren't high pitched at all and when there are parts that are they are given to Yunjin and Chaewon. They just can't sing. Sakura just never cared to improve, Kazuha was a ballet dancer that had no experience in singing or rapping but somehow was still added to the group and Eunchae idk what else she did other than practice dancing cause she always sound flat
