fun fact: in an alternate world, after the Jason Todd/Red hood event Batman did kill the joker and (thankfully he didn’t go Batman who laughs) he’s worst fears came true. He couldn’t stop killing. Even going as far as killing the justice league’s enemies. So yeah he was right.

Ok, most of the comments are confused why Batman didn't kill The Joker yet? Because if he would kill him, maybe lots of innocent people are saved.... And what else? Batman could be more dark and dangerous than before if he would kill the Joker "The Dark Knight" he stands for vengeance and justice. He also has a code just imagine if he killed the Joker and break he's code. It wouldn't made him any better as he said... Even if you'd kill the Joker there are still a lot of villains there causing innocent people still die. "Evil doesn't end" So what's the point of killing? Save people ok. But more people could be save if Batman will keep his code. Batman isn't dumb, so I'm pretty sure his reason about his code not killing Joker is important. It's the best choice Batman have!

He probably knows that having the powers of judge, jury and executioner would corrupt anyone. There needs to be due process so emotion, bias and arrogance don't dictate who lives and dies. He did his part by protecting civilians and capturing criminals. The government failed to do their part by not executing The Joker. Entitlement to total power, is how you get mad tyrants like Injustice's Superman.

Thomas was a surgeon so his profession was to save people's lives, Martha was a philanthropist, so she was well-known and liked. Bruce became Batman to save people from having to go through the same tragedy he went through. Bruce is a billionaire playboy, Batman is Gotham's hope but also a symbol of fear for the criminals in the city. Bruce refuses to kill because he knows once you go down that path you don't come back
